Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a medical condition often referred to as a silent killer because it often has no symptoms but can lead to serious complications. One independent nursing intervention that can be implemented to help control blood pressure is hypertension exercises and deep breathing. These interventions are relatively simple and easy to perform, as well as non-pharmacological and natural, so they can be implemented independently by individuals. Objective: To determine the effect of hypertension exercises and deep breathing on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension. Methods: This study was an experimental study with a quasi-experimental design and nonequivalent control group design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with 18 respondents in one group. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis using paired t-tests for normally distributed data and wilcoxon tests for non-normally distributed data. Results: After hypertension exercise therapy and deep breathing, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were examined. The wilcoxon test results showed systolic blood pressure before and after hypertension exercise and deep breathing (p-value 0.000), diastolic blood pressure before and after hypertension exercise and deep breathing (p-value 0.002). These results indicate that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted or there is an effect of hypertension exercise and deep breathing on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in elderly with hypertension at the Sibela Mojosongo Community Health Center. Conclusion: There is an effect of hypertension and deep breathing exercises on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Many people believe that retirement marks the beginning of a decline in their quality of life. Many individuals experience anxiety because they cannot imagine their post-retirement life. This can lead to depression and psychological shock as well as very severe anxiety for those who cannot accept their condition or suffer from post power syndrome. Objektive: This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between anxiety levels and Post Power Syndrome in the Elderly. Method: This study is a quantitative study using a descriptive analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used a total sampling of 53 respondents. The instruments used were the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire to assess anxiety levels and the post power syndrome questionnaire to assess post power syndrome levels. The analysis used in this study was a bivariate analysis using the Chi Square test. Results: The study found that the anxiety levels of 53 respondents ranged from severe to very severe anxiety as many as 18 (34.0%) and moderate levels of post power syndrome as many as 33 (62.3%). The results of the bivariate analysis P-value = 0.000 (α <0.05). Conclusion: so it can be concluded that Ha is accepted, which means there is a relationship between anxiety levels and post-power syndrome in elderly retired civil servants (ASN) in Lemah Mekar Village, Indramayu.

Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is a collection of metabolic risk factors that increase the likelihood of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and various other chronic complications. This study aims to analyze factors associated with the incidence of metabolic syndrome in outpatients at the Internal Medicine Clinic of Royal Prima Hospital in Medan in 2025. This study used an analytical observational design with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 96 patients selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through medical records and questionnaires to obtain information on the demographic characteristics, anthropometry, physical activity, and dietary patterns of the respondents. Data analysis was performed univariately, bivariately using the Chi-square test, and multivariately using logistic regression to determine the most dominant factors. The results showed that 49 patients (51.0%) had metabolic syndrome. Bivariate analysis showed that age ≥45 years, body mass index (BMI) ≥25 kg/m², high waist circumference, light physical activity, and unhealthy eating patterns were significantly associated with the occurrence of metabolic syndrome, while gender did not show a significant association. Multivariate analysis showed that waist circumference was the most dominant factor with an odds ratio (OR) of 4.14. These results indicate that abdominal obesity is an important factor in the occurrence of metabolic syndrome. Therefore, prevention efforts should focus on controlling waist circumference through increased physical activity and the implementation of a healthy diet.

Abstract

Background: Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the musculoskeletal disorders that is a major cause of disability globally. The level of disability due to LBP is influenced by various individual and behavioral factors. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with the level of disability in patients with Low Back Pain at the Orthopedic Clinic of Royal Prima Hospital in Medan in 2025. Methods: This study used a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 120 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, and disability level assessments using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Data analysis was performed using bivariate analysis with the Chi-square test and multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression. Results: The results showed that most respondents experienced moderate to severe disability (78.3%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between age (p=0.018), BMI (p=0.032), duration of sitting per day (p=0.006), and level of physical activity (p=0.004) with the level of disability. Patients aged ≥45 years, with overweight or obese BMI, sitting duration of more than 6 hours per day, and low physical activity tended to experience more severe disability. Meanwhile, gender did not show a significant relationship with disability level (p=0.210). Multivariate analysis results showed that low physical activity was the most dominant factor associated with disability levels (OR=4.58; 95% CI: 1.79–11.69). Conclusion: This study indicates that physical activity plays an important role in determining disability levels in patients with low back pain.

Abstract

Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a global health problem that significantly impacts patients’ quality of life, especially those undergoing hemodialysis therapy. Quality of life in CKD patients is influenced by various factors, including age and family support, which play important roles in adaptation to chronic illness and long-term treatment. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between patient age and family support with the quality of life of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 103 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using family support and quality of life questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: The results showed a significant relationship between age and patient quality of life (p-value = 0.000; r = 0.613), as well as between family support and quality of life (p-value = 0.000; r = 0.569). Younger patients tended to have better quality of life than older patients, and strong family support played an important role in improving patients' quality of life. Conclusion: Age and family support are significantly associated with the quality of life of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. Therefore, family involvement in patient care should be enhanced, particularly for elderly patients, to optimize their quality of life.

Abstract

Background: Enuresis, or bedwetting, is an elimination disorder commonly experienced by preschool-aged children and may negatively affect both their physical and psychological well-being, including feelings of shame, low self-esteem, and social difficulties. One of the factors influencing the occurrence of enuresis is the success of toilet training, which is highly dependent on parental knowledge and active involvement, particularly that of mothers. Limited parental knowledge may lead to delayed toilet training and increase the risk of enuresis. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parents’ knowledge regarding toilet training and the incidence of enuresis among preschool-aged children. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all parents with preschool-aged children in two research locations. A total sampling technique was used, resulting in 169 respondents. Data were collected using a toilet training knowledge questionnaire and an enuresis incidence questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test. Results: The majority of parents had a moderate level of knowledge regarding toilet training. The incidence of enuresis among preschool-aged children remained relatively high. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between parents’ level of knowledge about toilet training and the incidence of enuresis. Conclusion: Adequate parental knowledge regarding toilet training plays an important role in reducing the incidence of enuresis among preschool-aged children. Continuous education and assistance are needed to help parents implement toilet training appropriately and consistently.
