Abstract

The Boko Haram insurgency remains one of the most significant threats to Nigeria's national security since the country's return to democratic governance in 1999. Since its violent uprising in 2009, the group has caused widespread killings, kidnappings, destruction of infrastructure, mass displacement, and severe socio-economic disruption, particularly in North-Eastern Nigeria. The insurgency has also evolved into a transnational security challenge affecting countries within the Lake Chad Basin. This study examines the impact of Boko Haram on Nigeria's national security, focusing on its military, political, economic, humanitarian, and social consequences. A qualitative descriptive research design was adopted, relying on documentary analysis of secondary data from academic publications, government reports, policy documents, and international organizations. The study is anchored on Human Security Theory and State Fragility Theory, which explain how governance failures, socio-economic deprivation, and weak institutions contributed to the emergence and persistence of the insurgency. Findings reveal that Boko Haram has weakened state authority, disrupted education and agriculture, intensified humanitarian crises, increased internal displacement, and undermined regional security cooperation. The study concludes that sustainable peace requires more than military action and recommends integrated measures including intelligence strengthening, institutional reforms, socio-economic development, community engagement, deradicalization programmes, enhanced border security, regional collaboration, and long-term peacebuilding initiatives.

Abstract

This study examines Sīrah, themed Mappilappattu, the vernacular Islamic poetic corpus of Kerala's Mappila Muslim community, as a form of localized historiography. The research objectives are to analyse the literary structures and thematic features of selected Sīrah texts, to situate them within the socio-historical context of pre, modern and colonial Kerala, and to evaluate their function in preserving prophetic memory and constructing communal identity. Employing a qualitative historical, literary methodology, the study conducts close readings of Badar Padappattu, Miʿrāj Pattu, and Ibrāhīm Nabi Kissa alongside contextual examination of archival and scholarly sources. The findings demonstrate that these compositions synthesize Qurʾānic motifs, Arabic, Persian narrative frameworks, and Malayalam oral, poetic conventions into distinctive vernacular historiographies. The research gap addressed concerns the undertheorized historiographical function of Sīrah Mappilappattu, which existing scholarship largely treats as devotional folklore rather than as sophisticated historical imaginaries. The study concludes that Sīrah Mappilappattu constitutes an indigenous manifestation of Islamic literary culture in South Asia, where devotional performance, ethical pedagogy, and historical imagination converge.

Abstract

This research paper investigates an unusual off-metal strike (OMS) one-rupee coin attributed to Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan I (reigned 1628–1658), integrating detailed technical numismatic analysis with broader historical interpretation. The study conducts a comparative assessment of the coin’s metal composition, minting style, fabric, and die characteristics against standard silver rupees issued during Shah Jahan’s reign. Using energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF), the analysis identifies a heterogeneous metallic composition consisting of copper (52.09%), gold (5.56%), silver (4.47%), and cadmium (0.86%). Such an alloy significantly deviates from the established fineness of Mughal rupees and suggests the likelihood of non-standard minting conditions, experimental trial striking, or the use of repurposed metal blanks. In addition to the metallurgical findings, the paper contextualizes the OMS coin within Mughal minting conventions, regional production variability, and the administrative mechanisms governing currency circulation in the seventeenth century. The rarity of OMS coins attributed to major Mughal emperors, particularly Shah Jahan, underscores the importance of this specimen for advancing scholarship in South Asian numismatics. By combining scientific testing with historical evaluation, the study demonstrates how anomalous coins such as this OMS rupee offer valuable insights into mint experimentation, economic practices, and the complexities of Mughal monetary history.

Abstract

Agriculture was the main occupation of the Tamil region of India during the Sangam period. Agriculture in the state of Tamil Nadu is not of recent origin but has a long history dating back to the 2nd century. C. He changed the lifestyle of primitive man from nomadic hunter of wild fruits and roots to farmer of the land. Agriculture benefits from the wisdom and teachings of the great saints. The wisdom gained and the practices adopted have been passed down from generation to generation. Traditional farmers have developed nature-friendly farming systems and practices such as mixed farming, mixed farming, crop rotation, etc.            The great Sangam literature of the ancient Tamil region conveys the depth of knowledge possessed by the older generations of Tamil Nadu farmers. Modern society has begun to appreciate the importance of traditional knowledge, which has undergone a refinement process through generations of experience. The ecological considerations shown by traditional farmers in their agricultural activities are reflected today in the renaissance of organic agriculture.

Abstract

The history of Indian freedom struggle would be incomplete without mentioning the contribution of women. The sacrifice made by the women of Tamil Nadu newline will occupy the foremost place. The history of freedom struggle is replete with the saga of sacrifice, selflessness, bravery of women. Many of us don’t know that there were hundreds of women who fought side by side with their male counterparts. They fought with true spirit and undismayed courage. The Indian women broke away from various restrictions and got out of their traditional home-oriented roles and responsibilities. So, the participation of women in the freedom struggle and National awakening is simply incredible and praiseworthy. However, it is not easy for women to fight as warriors in the male dominating society. Even though females tried to change the perception of such orthodox people who thought women are meant to do only household chores. Moreover, females not only sacrifice their lives but also combat such issues. Rani Laxmi Bhai was one of such women who fought against British rule by mitigating all odds, hence this paper entitles to highlight the legacy that women showed in the history by showing their fierce nature.
