Abstract

Background and Objectives : Social media has become a new space for conveying understandings of hadith, including through the Instagram account @rahmadotid, which actively discusses religious issues related to women. This study aims to examine how the reading of asbāb al-wurūd is applied in the hadith content uploaded by the account. Methodology: This research uses qualitative methods and library research. The focus of this research is the @rahmadotid Instagram account because it is a social media that actively answers religious issues, especially related to women. This research is limited to three hadith contents, namely the hadith about the prohibition of wives rejecting their husbands' invitations, the hadith about dowry, and the hadith about the wife's deeds that lead to heaven. Main Results: The research shows that the Instagram account @rahmadotid understands the first hadith contextually by reading the macro asbab al-wurud. The second hadith is understood contextually through the connection with other narrations without including asbab al-wurud. While the third tradition is understood textually because no asbab al-wurud is found related to the tradition. From these three traditions, it appears that the @rahmadotid Instagram account seeks to present an understanding that is just for women. Contribution:This study contributes by mapping the contextual and textual approaches used in the interpretation of hadith on social media. The findings highlight efforts to present hadith interpretations that are more just and equitable for women in digital spaces. Conclusion:The results of the study show that the reading of asbāb al-wurūd is applied variably according to the characteristics of each hadith examined. This approach produces interpretations that are more inclusive and responsive to issues concerning women.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: This article examine the meaning of na’l (sandals) in the story of Prophet Moses as recorded in QS. Tāhā [20]: 12. Although na’l is often viewed as a profane object, it indicates a deep and significant meaning. This study assumes that the meaning of na’l is not limited to its literal dimension, but encompasses a broader and more universal meaning. Methodology: This study uses qualitative methods with a literature reviwe. To uncover these layers of meaning, Roland Barthes' semiotic approach is used, which consists of two levels of analysis, namely linguistic and mythological. This approach was chosen based on its ability to reveal new meanings in understanding ideology, culture, and social constructs. Main Results: The term na'l is not merely understood as a physical object in the form of footwear, but has been transformed into a symbol of all forms of obstacles, both physical and spiritual. Therefore, the interpretation of this verse contains a message for humans to remove all obstacles that prevent them from facing Allah. Conclusions: The semiotic approach emphasizes the importance of reading the Qur’an by paying attention to the symbolic context and the hidden meaning structure behind the text.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The phenomenon of modern hedonism is increasingly widespread, characterized by consumerist culture, displays of wealth, and the pursuit of material possessions as the ultimate source of happiness. The Qur’an firmly criticizes such a lifestyle through the stories of past nations that faced destruction due to their neglect of spiritual values. Therefore, this study aims to reflect on hedonistic behavior through the stories of Qarun and the people of Saba’, as presented in Q.S. al-Qasas: 76–81 and Q.S. Saba’: 15–16. Method: This research employs a qualitative method based on library research with a tafsir tahlili approach, analyzing the verses systematically and in depth by referring to contemporary tafsir works. Main Results: The study reveals that the story of Qarun illustrates arrogance and denial of God’s blessings, accompanied by a low level of spiritual awareness. The people of Saba’ represent a prosperous society that failed to show gratitude, ultimately leading to their downfall. Contributions: This research contributes by linking the two Qur’anic stories with modern social realities concerning human psychological conditions and offers Qur’anic solutions to confront consumerist and materialistic lifestyles. Conclusions: The stories of Qarun and the people of Saba’ in the Qur’an serve as moral lessons that remain highly relevant to today’s realities, such as the hedonistic phenomena of "flexing" on social media and excessive consumption. Islam does not prohibit the use of wealth but emphasizes the importance of wisdom and moderation in its use.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: This study aims to examine the position of hikayat signs in Tafsir Al-Ibriz by Biṣri Musṫofa, a Nusantara mufassir known for his communicative and narrative approach in conveying the message of the Qur'an. The background of this research is based on the need to understand how hikayat, which are often considered mere folk tales or additional elements, actually play an important role in grounding the messages of the Qur'an to the general public. Method: This research uses a descriptive analysis method with a semiotic approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through a literature study of the Tafsir Al-Ibriz manuscript and the reference sources used, including classical tafsir such as Tafsir Al-Khazin. Main Results: The signs of hikayat in Tafsir Al-Ibriz do not merely serve as complementary stories, but as semiotic devices that connect the denotative aspects of the Qur'anic text with the connotative aspects of Javanese culture through the mechanism of myth as a second level of meaning, while also reconstructing classical sources such as Tafsir Al-Khazin in the local context of the archipelago. Contributions: This study contributes to enriching the study of Nusantara interpretation by revealing the strategic role of hikayat as a semiotic sign that reinforces the delivery of moral messages and contextualization of the Qur'an in Tafsir Al-Ibriz by KH. Biṣri Musṫafa. Conclusions: This study concludes that the use of hikayat signs in Tafsir Al-Ibriz is an effective semiotic strategy for grounding the message of the Qur'an through the integration of revelatory texts, classical exegetical traditions, and Javanese cultural symbols, thereby enriching the contextual and culturally sensitive hermeneutic tradition of the archipelago.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: This study investigates the semantic dimensions of the term al-fasād in the Qur’an using Toshihiko Izutsu’s semantic approach. The objective is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the concept’s implications for individuals and society, particularly as a Qur’anic warning against destructive human behavior. Methodology: The research employs a qualitative descriptive method grounded in Izutsu’s systematic semantic analysis. It identifies the basic and relational meanings of al-fasād and traces their development from the pre-Islamic (Jahiliyyah) context to the classical Islamic period.  Main Findings: The findings show that al-fasād encompasses not only physical destruction but also moral and social corruption that can destabilize societal structures. Within the Qur’anic discourse, the term often appears alongside related concepts such as ẓulm (injustice) and al-kharāb (ruin), forming a broad semantic network. The analysis further reveals that al-fasād functions both as an individual transgression and as a collective social phenomenon capable of leading to systemic disorder. Contributions: By applying Izutsu’s semantic framework, the study contributes to identifying and clarifying the conceptual structure of al-fasād in the Qur’an. It demonstrates how semantic-conceptual analysis enriches the understanding of Qur’anic terminology and supports the development of more context-sensitive interpretation. Conclusions: The research highlights the importance of semantic analysis in contemporary Qur’anic studies and emphasizes the urgency of preserving social, moral, and environmental order within Muslim society as part of addressing al-fasād in its various forms.

Abstract

Background of the Study: The advancement of educational technology has entered a new phase with the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI), which offers rapid information access and learning efficiency. However, its application within Islamic education requires critical examination to ensure alignment with prophetic values. Historically, educational practices during the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW utilized various forms of teaching media, ranging from exemplary behavior, gestures, questioning techniques, to the use of concrete objects to enhance comprehension. This becomes a reflective basis for assessing the role of AI in contemporary learning. Methods: This study employs a qualitative library research approach through a review of classical Islamic sources, hadiths related to the Prophet’s pedagogical methods, and recent studies concerning the implementation of AI in education. Key Findings: The study reveals that the utilization of instructional tools is not a modern concept in Islam. AI represents an evolutionary phase of media use that shares the same objective as prophetic teaching—to support understanding, interaction, and value internalization. While AI may enhance learning effectiveness and accessibility, its use requires value-based regulation to preserve moral formation and learner independence. Contribution: This research provides a historical-normative framework for integrating AI into Islamic education while maintaining prophetic principles. Conclusion: AI has the potential to become an effective learning medium as long as its implementation strengthens comprehension, character, and spiritual awareness. Further empirical research is recommended to examine its practical impact in real educational settings.

Abstract

Background and objectives: The article analyzes the dynamics of Prophet Moses’ self-efficacy when he was commanded to confront Pharaoh as narrated in Q.S. Asy-Syu’ara verses 10–22 and supported by related prophetic traditions, addressing the lack of focused studies that map Moses’ psychological transition from fear and doubt to confident prophetic agency using a contemporary self-efficacy framework. The study aims to reconstruct this process. Method: This article use a qualitative descriptive, library-based method that uses Q.S. Asy-Syu’ara 10–22, Tafsir Ibn Kathir, and two authentic hadiths about Moses’ patience and his advice in the Isra’ Mi‘raj narrative as primary data, complemented by scholarly literature on Albert Bandura’s self-efficacy theory. Main results: Textual units of Moses’ utterances, divine responses, and narrative contexts are coded into Bandura’s dimensions of magnitude, strength, and generality and the four main sources of self-efficacy, revealing an initial phase of low self-efficacy marked by fear of rejection, awareness of verbal limitations, and anxiety over a past killing, which gradually shifts into stable and realistic confidence through divine assurance, the appointment of Aaron, and the experience of miracles. Contribution: The study contributes by integrating Bandura’s self-efficacy model with classical Qur’anic exegesis and hadith, thereby proposing a religious self-efficacy reading of Moses that expands Islamic psychology and Qur’an–Hadith studies beyond purely moralistic narrations. Conclusion: These insights offer a conceptual basis for designing faith-based strategies to strengthen self-efficacy in Islamic education and da‘wah, particularly for individuals who struggle with fear, doubt, and perceived inadequacy in carrying out religious and social responsibilities.
