Abstract

Background: Post-mining land reclamation is a crucial component of sustainable mining practices aimed at restoring degraded land to its original condition or to a new, ecologically functional state. In the Kemingking area, extensive illegal alluvial tin mining has significantly reduced reclamation effectiveness and increased the risk of long-term environmental degradation. Inadequate spatial documentation of land disturbances has further complicated the formulation of effective reclamation strategies. Objective: This study aims to spatially analyze land openings resulting from both legal and illegal alluvial tin mining activities as a technical basis for formulating effective post-mining reclamation strategies. Method: The research employed a multitemporal remote sensing approach using satellite imagery from 2004 to 2022 combined with UAV-based photogrammetry conducted between 2022 and 2024. Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis was applied to identify land-clearing dynamics, delineate pit boundaries, and evaluate surface morphology changes over time. Result: The results demonstrate that medium-to-high-resolution UAV imagery (0.5–1 m) is more effective than satellite imagery in identifying land-clearing features, pit geometry, and surface morphology. Historical patterns of illegal land clearing from 2004 to 2019 were successfully mapped as baseline disturbance data. As of 31 December 2024, mapped land openings covered 44.79 ha of illegal mining areas and 110.32 ha of legal mining areas. Conclusion: Effective reclamation planning for alluvial tin mining areas requires integration of UAV-derived data and multitemporal GIS analysis. This approach provides essential technical inputs for landform reconstruction, pit reconfiguration, and material estimation for land regrading, thereby strengthening post-mining reclamation strategies.

Abstract

Background: Rapid urbanization, increasing motor vehicle use, and high dependence on fossil-based energy sources have contributed to persistently elevated PM₂.₅ concentrations. Although various policies have been implemented, their long-term effectiveness under different intervention levels has not been sufficiently evaluated using an integrated and dynamic approach. Objective: This study aims to develop a system dynamics model to project PM₂.₅ emissions and concentration trends in DKI Jakarta up to 2040 under three scenarios: Business as Usual (BAU), Moderate, and Aggressive intervention. Method: A system dynamics modeling approach was employed by integrating key variables, including motor vehicle growth, electric vehicle (EV) adoption, electricity consumption, renewable energy penetration, and industrial activity. The model was calibrated using historical data from 2018 to 2023. Three scenarios were simulated: BAU without additional intervention, Moderate with approximately 20% EV penetration and a 30% renewable energy mix, and Aggressive with EV penetration of ≥50% and a renewable energy mix of ≥70%. Result: Under the BAU scenario, PM₂.₅ concentrations decline only marginally (approximately ±40% by 2040). The Moderate scenario achieves approximately ±60% reduction, though insufficient to meet optimal air quality standards. The Aggressive scenario demonstrates the most substantial impact, with reductions reaching approximately ±80%. Conclusion: Aggressive policy interventions combining high EV penetration and substantial renewable energy adoption are essential for significant PM₂.₅ reductions in DKI Jakarta. System dynamics modeling provides a robust framework for evaluating long-term air quality policies and supporting evidence-based decision-making.

Abstract

Background: Barong Tongkok Subdistrict, West Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, is experiencing increasing ecological pressure driven by population concentration, land-use change, and rising resource consumption, raising concerns about the region's environmental carrying capacity and long-term sustainability. Objective: This study aims to assess regional sustainability in Barong Tongkok Subdistrict using a spatially explicit approach that integrates the Ecological Footprint (EF), Carbon Footprint (CF), and Biocapacity (BC). Method: A quantitative approach was applied using household consumption surveys, land-cover data, emission factors, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The EF was calculated based on food consumption, resource use, and built-up land. The CF was estimated from household electricity consumption, LPG use, transportation fuel, and waste burning. BC was derived from land-cover-based productivity using yield and equivalence factors. Sustainability was evaluated through a Sustainability Index (SI), defined as the ratio between BC and the combined EF and CF. Result: The results indicate significant spatial variation in sustainability across villages. Geleo Baru Village exhibits the highest SI value (31.57), reflecting a strong ecological surplus supported by extensive natural land cover and low population pressure. Conversely, Rejo Basuki Village records the lowest SI value (0.023), indicating a severe ecological deficit due to limited land availability and intensive residential land use. Peripheral villages tend to show ecological surplus, while densely populated areas exceed local carrying capacity. Conclusion: The integration of EF, CF, and BC within a GIS framework effectively reveals spatial sustainability patterns, providing valuable insights for evidence-based regional planning and targeted strategies to improve local sustainability.

Abstract

Background: Team productivity is a critical factor in organizational performance and is strongly influenced by individual worker motivation and task characteristics. Objective: This study investigates the impact of incentive-based motivation on team productivity under varying levels of task difficulty using an agent-based modeling (ABM) approach. Methods: The model incorporates three core motivational dimensions—achievement motivation, affiliation motivation, and power motivation—along with individual ability levels to simulate task completion behavior within teams. A total of 20 worker agents were simulated across 27 different motivation profile combinations, with task difficulty values categorized into low, medium, and high levels. Each simulation was repeated 30 times to ensure robustness of the results. Productivity was measured based on task completion time, reflecting the collective contribution of team members. Results: The simulation results indicate that motivation profiles significantly affect team productivity depending on task difficulty. For high task difficulty scenarios, teams composed of agents with high achievement and high power motivation demonstrated the fastest task completion times. In contrast, under low task difficulty conditions, agents with high achievement and high affiliation motivation performed more effectively. Medium task difficulty scenarios showed relatively balanced performance across most motivation profiles, with power motivation still contributing to faster completion times. Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of aligning incentive-based motivation with task complexity to enhance team productivity. The study also demonstrates the usefulness of agent-based modeling as a tool for analyzing complex team dynamics and providing insights into optimal motivation-task matching strategies in organizational settings.
