Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the students difficulties and factor causes students difficult to pronounce English diphthongs at the Twelve Grade of SMA Negeri 8 Kota Jambi. The research methodology of this study was quantitative descriptive research which involved population and sample. The total population of this research was the XII IPS 5 students of SMAN 8 Kota Jambi, which consisted of 42 students. In collecting the data, this research gave test and interview at the class. The result of the research showed that the twelve grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Kota Jambi got difficulties in pronouncing English diphthongs sounds. The students’ difficulties in pronouncing diphthongs are producing sound (/ʌʊ/, /eə/, and /ɪə/). The highest percentage of the students score was 95,23% and the lowest was 15,23%. Where the mean score of the students test was 10 with a poor categories and percentage of students score test were /ʌʊ/ 15,23%, /eə/ 16,19%, and /ɪə/ 17,14%. The factors of students’ difficulties in pronouncing English fricative consonant are; the influence of students mother language, the lack of students knowledge about English sound system and the unsuccessful in using borrowed English words.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to investigate the use of transitivity of students in writing recount text and to find out the most dominant process of transitivity used. In this research, this research used descriptive qualitative method. Subject of the research in this study is students at tenth grade of Senior High School 3 Jambi City in academic year 2021/2022. This research used cluster sampling techniques and as a result the participants in this study is students in class X MIPA 3. The data is collecting by writing test. The data analyzed were 370 clauses taken from recount text written by thirty four students’ X MIPA 3 of tenth grade Senior High School 3 Jambi City. In these clauses, all process types can be found with varieties of the usage. The results were: material process (63%), mental process (15%), behavioral process (8%), verbal process (3%), relational process (5%), and existential process (6%). As for the participants, almost all can be found in students’ recount texts: actor, goal, range, senser, phenomenon, token, value, carrier, attribute, behaver, sayer, verbiage, and existent. Material process is the most process found in the data, it is about 63% or 232 clauses. Material process refers to process of doing and happening. According to Boardman (2008, p. 287) the significant common grammatical patterns of recount text that focused on specific participant, use of material process or action verb, use Circumstance of time and place and temporal sequence of events. The least appear is verbal process.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the correlation of students’ motivation and reading comprehension, at tenth grade IPS 1 SMA N 3 Jambi City. This research was designed using quantitative research methods. The population of this study was the tenth grade students at SMA N 3 Jambi City, and the sample was IPS 1 students.This study uses questionnaire and test as research instruments. Then the results are assessed and. The questionnaire is adapted from previous research to collect motivation data. While the test is adapted from test Universitas Islam Negri Yogyakarta to collect the data of students’ reading comprehension. The highest score of students' motivation to reading was 72 points and the lowest score was 55 points and the average 62,7. The highest score test of a students’ score in reading was 85 and the lowest one was 25 and average 61. The data is calculated by using Pearson Product Moment to prove whether the hyphothesis of this research was significant or not, and the result of correlation analysis showed that the correlation coefficient ???????????? was -0,2538353. The value of ???????????? was consulted with Pearson’s product moment table (rtable) df 29 and significant level 5% and 1%. If ???????????? > rtable it meant that there was a positive correlation, and the hypothesis could be accepted. And if ???????????? < rtable it meant that there was not a positive correlation, and the hypothesis could be rejected.

Abstract

Pronunciation is one of the components in speaking ability. This component plays very important role in communication, because by pronouncing the English words correctly students are able to avoid misunderstanding when they are speaking, therefore to be able to say English words fluently and correctly, the students should have good mastery in pronunciation especially in pronouncing English palatal alveolar fricative and affricative consonant sounds. This research is aimed at describing students” ability to pronounce English palatal alveolar fricative and affricative consonants (∫ and t∫) and find out in which position (initial, medial, and final) are the most difficult to pronounce. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative method approach. This research was conducted Junior High School Number 17 Kota Jambi in January 2022. in conducting this research, this research administered the pronunciation test one time, the. The population of this research was the ninth-grade students at SMPN 17 Jambi City in academic year 2021-2022, the total number of them were 340 students. As the sample was the ninth-grade students, they consist of 10 students. This research used purposive sampling technique in taking the sample if this research. The result of this research showed that on the test there were 4 students belong to very good categories, 2 student belongs to good categories, 3 students belong to fair categories, 1 student belongs to weak category and none of the student belong to poor category. the ability of the students in pronouncing the English palatal alveolar fricative (∫) and (t∫) affricative consonant was 78%, this is categorized as good. The students” ability in pronouncing sound (∫) belongs to very good category (85%) and sound (t∫) belongs to good category (73%)

Abstract

This present study investigated the Students Perception of Using Video Dubbing Technique for Speaking Skill in Guang Ming Seventh Junior High School. Furthermore, it aimed to know How are the students’ perception in learning speaking skill by using video dubbing technique. This research is using qualitative method and phenomenology approach. The data analysis in this research are the interview protocol which use purposive sampling to gather the data. The research findings highlighted the following themes. Themes related to students’ experiences in learning Speaking by using Video Dubbing Technique. The finding showed that the students feel fun in learning Speaking. Video Dubbing makes learning more efficient in terms of time use. The students stated that video dubbing technique is an Interesting Method to learning speaking. And also by using video dubbing technique the students stated that using this method made the learning more fun and no time consuming.
