Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the ability of students in grade 12 at SMAN 8 Jambi City in writing procedural texts. A qualitative descriptive method was utilized. The population comprised students XII IPS at SMAN 8 Jambi City of academic study 2022/2023 and the sample consisted of 36 students from class XII IPS 2. Researchers used a research instrument, an essay test with a predetermined theme, namely food. Into discover these findings, tabulation was used to collect data from students' grades to categorize indicators of students written. Following the discovery of the result data, the researcher classified the student's score using the CRA (Criterion-Referenced Assessment) scale. According to the findings of the research, indicators of students' writing abilities, namely goals (83.3325) and materials (90.2775), have excellent an average score. On the other hand,  the step indicator has into the average good criterion (77.0825). However, the overall average of all indicators is excellent (83.5641). Furthermore, students' ability in writing procedure texts are scores 83.5555 in the highest category. It is indicated that the level of students' ability writing in procedure text is excellent score, and that demonstrated score of writing procedural texts is highest.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the student error in pronouncing English post alveolar consonants sound at the eleventh grade of Senior High School 1 Jambi City. The research methodology of this study was qualitative descriptive research which involved the subject. The subject of this research is XI MIPA 2 of Senior High School 1 Jambi City which contains of 36 students. In collecting the data, the researcher gave test and collected the student transcript. The result of the research showed that the eleventh grade students of Senior High School 1 Jambi City got a high percentage of error in pronouncing English post alveolar consonant sounds. The type of error that have very high significance to pronounce by the students is /ӡ/ sound which is 86%. In contrast with /∫/ sound where the students just made low percentage of an error pronunciation in 14%. From four categories of errors which is addition. Omission, substitution and ordering, the most dominant error made by the students are substitution with percentage 97,7%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether the use of the cake application was effective in increasing the vocabulary of class XI students at SMA N8 Jambi City. This study used a quantitative method with a population of 184 students in class XI, with a sample of 36 students in class XI IPA 1 and 37 students in XI IPA 2 who were selected by cluster sampling. In this study, data were collected using the pre-test and post-test to see the average score of the two classes using SPSS version 29. The results of this study indicate that (1) vocabulary mastery in using the cake application in the treatment class with an average of 80 .25; (2) Vocabulary mastery in the control class with an average of 70.92; (3) the vocabulary mastery of the treatment class students using the cake application was higher than the control class with a Sig. 0.001 > 0.05. The use of the cake application is effective in increasing the vocabulary of class XI students at SMA N8 Jambi City.

Abstract

The researcher was conducted based on the problem the students in learning English especially in vocabulary mastery. The researcher said that inthis study he used two classes. Researchers use this test as a tool to obtain data consisting of vocabulary tests. The test used is a multiple-choice test designed to identify the impact of the use of picture games on students' vocabulary. These test results are further analyzed for the impact of picture play on increasing students' vocabulary. Researchers calculated the data using quantitative analysis. Researchers tested the hypothesis using a t-test formulation. The survey results showed that the average score of the experimental class was 55.33 before applying the picture play technique. The control class average score was 56.88. On the other hand, after applying the picture game technique, the test class average is 64.77. The control class average score was 62.77. The researchers found t-test results with t0 higher than tt - t0 was 5.835 and tt was 1.669 (5.835 > 1.669). This means that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. The conclusion of this study is that there was a significant effect of picture play techniques on her 10th grade vocabulary skills in Senior High School 8 Jambi.

Abstract

Main problem of this research are Covid-19 and Online learning that impact the learning process and psychological of EFL. The aim of this study is to determine how psychological issues related to the COVID-19 epidemic affect students who learn by online. The researcher will employ field research as the method of inquiry, observation and interviews. Research participants are 6 students who in twelfth grade. The findings lead to the psychological problems that indicated as Behavioural Apathy. Which are linked to the Cognitive psychology and Neuropsychology. Based on the findings, Students lost their interested in study by online learning, even lost their spirit in learning. Their feel so bored and tired, too much assignment and no explanation with bad signal (some of them) made theirs doesn’t really care about the lessons. The students being lazy to think and loves to be procrastinating of work. Some of them suffering by this situation but others not. The laziness of thinking and studying has persisted to this day.

Abstract

This research was made to figure out if there is an improvement after using Shadowing Technique that applied to twelfth grade students in senior high school number 02 Muaro Jambi. This research used Quantitative method with Quasi-Experimental design and using SPSS as data analysis technique. The total population in this school was 239 students. In this research, researcher use one experimental group and one control group. The experimental group that chosen in this research was XII MIPA 2 and XII IPS 2 as the control group with the total of 61 samples (30 students for experimental group and 31 students for control group). The technique that used in this research to collect the data was students must immediately follow the words that speaker said. The results that were found in this research are: (1) Students pronunciation skill taught by using Shadowing Technique now can pronounce the words in English pronunciation and less using Indonesian pronunciation (2) Some students’ who categorized in poor pronunciation skill now become average criteria after the treatment of Shadowing Technique. Therefore, at the end of this research, there is an improvement of students’ pronunciation skill after using Shadowing Technique.

Abstract

This research was made to find out whether there is any good impact after the Three-Step Interview Method was applied to the students of the eleventh grade of Senior High School Adhyaksa 1 Jambi. This research used quantitative method, and true experimental design to approach the students with pretest-posttest control group design. Through simple random sampling technique, the researcher took 48 students as the sample of this research, with the total population of 140 students. XI MIPA 1 was chosen as the control class and XI MIPA 2 as the experimental class. The technique of distributing the data was speaking test where the students were asked to give their opinion using English through the given case, with pre-test, treatments, and post-test. This research used t test as the data analysis technique with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows version 21 program. The results that were found in this research are: (1) students’ speaking skill taught by using the Three-Step Interview method reached the mean of 20,00; (2) students’ speaking skill taught by using the normal group discussion method reached the mean of 19,21; (3) students’ speaking skill taught by using the Three-Step Interview method is higher than students’ speaking skill taught by using the normal group discussion method with a value of Sig. 0.000 > 0.05. Therefore, there is a significant impact in using Three-Step Interview for the students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out whether or not there was any significant effect of kahoot toward students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi. This research used quantitative research method with quasi-experimental research design which implicated experimental class and control class. The total population in this research was tenth grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi which consisted of 253 students. The samples of this research were chosen by using cluster sampling. The samples were divided into two classes, experimental class which consisted of 35 students and control class which consisted of 36 students. The technique of data collection in this research was pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data were analyzed by using t-test. The researcher found that the mean score of pre-test at experimental class was 61,85 and the post-test was 81,71. Meanwhile the mean score of pre-test at experimental class was 60,00 and the post-test was 70,13. The result of t-test analysis presented that observation was higher than t-table (7,75 > 1,994). Therefore, H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. As the result, there was any significant effect of kahoot toward students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the difficulties in reading comprehension faced by the eleventh-grade students at SMAN 8 Jambi City. This was qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The subject of the research was the eleventh-grade students at Senior High School 8 Jambi City in Academic Year 2022/2023. The technique of collecting the data was a Reading test. The research used the technique of analyzing the data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The result of the research shows that there are 34,1% of students have difficulties understanding to find the main idea of the text with a total of incorrect is 68. Moreover, there are 21,1% of students have difficulties knowing the meaning of several vocabulary words in the text with a total of incorrect is 42. There are 18,6% of students who have difficulties understanding and making inferences from the text with a total of incorrect is 37. Lastly, there are 26,1% of students have difficulties in understanding to look inferring the meanings of particular words from the text.

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether there is any effect of using LINE Webtoon as a media in reading comprehension of English students at eleventh grade of Senior High School Number 8 Jambi City. This type of research is a quasi-experimental with a total of population 292 people. Through simple random sampling technique, 37 students of Class XI IPA 2 were selected as the control class and 37 students of Class XI IPA 1 were selected as the experimental class. The technique of collecting data is distributing questions to research respondents. In this research, the data analysis technique was using t test on the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows version 25 program. The result of this research indicated that (1) students’ reading comprehension in English subject in experimental class taught using LINE Webtoon as a media obtained an arithmetic mean of 24.89; (2) students’ reading comprehension in English subject in control class taught by using LINE Webtoon as a media obtained an arithmetic mean of 16.65; (3) students’ reading comprehension in English subject taught using LINE Webtoon as a media in experimental class are higher than students’ reading comprehension in English subject taught by using LINE Webtoon as a media in control class with a value of Sig. 0.000 > 0.05. Furthermore, there is an effect on the use of LINE Webtoon as a media in learning students’ reading comprehension as evidenced by the increase in students’ learning outcomes.
