Abstract

This study examines the process of “Qur’anization” in rural communities through the study of the Living Qur’an, which refers to the implementation of Qur’anic values into the social life of the community through religious activities rooted in tradition. The research method used is qualitative with a Living Qur’an approach. Data was obtained through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with religious leaders and congregations, and documentation of activities. The results of the study show that there are four main forms of Qur’anization practices, including: First, the activity of reciting the Qur’an, which serves as a means to strengthen the ability to read the Qur’an and as a medium for passing on Islamic values from one generation to the next. Second, Rabu Wekasan as a means of warding off evil spirits. Third, Lailatul Ijtima’ as a means of conveying religious knowledge and Islamic values. Fourth, the Megengan tradition as a form of gratitude and friendship. These four practices show that Qur’anization at the Muslim Community of Baitus Salam is not merely a ritual activity, but a form of religious transformation that bridges the teachings of the Qur’an and the social life of the village community. Abstract

The word nūr in QS An-Nūr:35 contains deep symbolism that metaphorically represents divine guidance. The relevance of this topic lies in the need for a comprehensive linguistic approach to understand the meaning of nūr not only literally, but also in the context of the structure of the verse and the theme of the surah. This study aims to interpret the term nūr comprehensively through linguistic-siyāqiyah analysis, covering aspects of phonology, morphology, syntax, collocation, and style. The method used is descriptive-analytical qualitative with a classical approach to ma‘ani, bayān, and badī‘ theory. The primary data is the text of QS An-Nūr:35 from the Uthmani Mushaf, and secondary data is obtained from classical tafsir and contemporary linguistic studies. Data collection techniques through literature study and analysis are carried out using source triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the long vowel sound nūr reinforces spiritual meaning; the morphological form mashdar suggests the eternity of meaning; the syntactic structure forms a progressive visual narrative; collocation presents a network of layered meanings; and the style of language constructs complex metaphors that describe light as divine guidance. This study shows that nūr is not merely a symbol of light, but a principle of spiritual guidance that underpins the social ethical system and human faith. These findings enrich the linguistic interpretation of the Qur'an and emphasise the importance of the siyaqiyah approach in understanding the transcendental message of revelation.

Abstract

The codification of the Uthmanic Muṣḥaf is widely regarded as a defining moment in the preservation and standardization of the Qur'anic text. Nevertheless, the process has remained a subject of scholarly debate, particularly regarding the reports that ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd rejected the official codification under Caliph ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān. This study investigates the contestation of textual authority reflected in these narratives by examining their historical context, transmission, and interpretation in both classical and contemporary scholarship. Employing a qualitative library research method, the study analyzes primary sources on ḥadīth, qirāʾāt, and ʿulūm al-Qur'ān, complemented by relevant modern academic literature. A historical-critical and discourse analysis approach is applied to distinguish between historical evidence and later ideological constructions. The findings reveal that Ibn Masʿūd’s reported disagreement was primarily related to the process of codification and the status of companion codices rather than a rejection of the authenticity of the Qur'an. Furthermore, later theological and political discourses contributed to the expansion of these narratives, transforming them into competing claims of textual authority. The study concludes that the Uthmanic codification successfully established a unified Qur'anic text while accommodating the recognized diversity of qirāʾāt, thereby ensuring the continuity, authenticity, and authority of the Qur'anic tradition. This research contributes to contemporary Qur'anic studies by offering a critical reassessment of Ibn Masʿūd’s position within the broader discourse on the formation of the Qur'anic canon.
