Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of students' dominant use of regional languages on their Indonesian speaking skills. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations and open-ended questionnaires. The research subjects were fifth- and sixth-grade elementary school students attending TPQ Al-Muhajirin, located in a community where regional languages are predominantly used in daily communication. The findings indicate that students who primarily communicate in regional languages encounter several difficulties when speaking in Indonesian, including challenges in selecting appropriate vocabulary (72.2%), constructing grammatically accurate sentences (36.1%), code-switching between regional languages and Indonesian (86.1%), and a lack of self-confidence when speaking Indonesian (47.2%). In contrast, students who are accustomed to using Indonesian did not experience such challenges. To overcome these difficulties, students adopted various strategies, such as practicing speaking in Indonesian regularly (36.1%), seeking assistance from teachers or peers (55.6%), and engaging with Indonesian-language materials through reading and video content (5.6%). These results suggest that the dominant use of regional languages significantly affects the speaking skills of elementary school-aged children. Consequently, there is a need for more intensive interventions aimed at enhancing students' Indonesian speaking abilities, such as fostering an environment that actively supports the use of Indonesian in daily communication.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low motivation and boredom of students in learning Indonesian, which is still dominated by conventional methods and results in less optimal conceptual understanding. The purpose of this research is to implement Wordwall as an interactive learning medium to improve students’ conceptual comprehension, interest, and motivation. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects were X students of MA Darul Lughah Wal Karomah Kraksaan. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that Wordwall successfully created a more engaging and enjoyable learning atmosphere compared to traditional teaching methods. Its interactive features, such as quizzes, word-matching activities, and word-search exercises, stimulated students’ enthusiasm and encouraged them to actively engage with the material. The scoring system and timer also fostered a healthy sense of competition, which further motivated students to participate. However, some limitations were identified, including the possibility of cheating, the relatively small font size, and the time-consuming process of preparing questions. Despite these challenges, the implication of this study suggests that Wordwall can serve as an innovative alternative medium for teaching Indonesian, providing both meaningful learning experiences and enhanced learning quality.

Abstract

This study explores how strategic leadership can drive institutional transformation toward excellence in Islamic higher education. A qualitative research approach with an ethnographic orientation was adopted, conducted at UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, Indonesia, for one year, specifically during the university's preparation for national accreditation. Data were collected through three primary methods: participant observation in leadership meetings and quality assurance activities, in-depth interviews with 14 key informants (including university leaders, lecturers, and accreditation staff), and document analysis of the institution's strategic plan and accreditation report. Data analysis employed an inductive thematic procedure, in which interview transcripts, field notes, and institutional documents were analyzed to identify emerging themes. The research findings revealed that strategic leadership is realized through three main pillars: clear visionary direction, participatory management, and the integration of Islamic humanistic values into institutional governance. Despite facing challenges such as structural fragmentation, limited financial resources, and cultural resistance to change, the leadership successfully mobilized collective commitment and aligned organizational efforts with accreditation goals. As a result, the university achieved the highest national accreditation rating (A). This study contributes theoretically by contextualizing strategic leadership within faith-based educational settings in developing countries and highlighting the importance of moral authority, inclusive communication, and organizational synergy. Practically, these findings offer valuable insights for Islamic university leaders seeking to foster excellence under constraints.
