Abstract

This research provides knowledge about the history of the arrival of the Moluccans to the Netherlands as part of the Dutch East Indies postcolonial immigrants who have now formed a diaspora in the Netherlands. Source tracing was carried out using literature reviews through search engines and keywords related to the research object. The results of the research show that migration, which later turned into integration into Dutch society, underwent a long process that was far from smooth as it had to go through a number of problems both internal (personal and group) and external (Dutch policies).

Abstract

"De Oost" is a film directed by Jim Taihuttu, a Netherlandsman of Ambon descent, which tells the story of the Westerling Tragedy. Its launch sparked controversy from former Netherlands East Indies veterans to Raymond Westerling's daughter because it was considered to distort facts and not fit Westerling's description. This controversy raises the problem of how Jim Taihuttu represents Westerling through the character de Turk. This research is intended so that readers can assess Jim Taihuttu's depiction of Westerling through the character de Turk and determine the suitability of the film with reality. The research method used is qualitative using the note-taking technique, by applying identity theory by Erick Erikson (1968) to find out the director's background and representation theory by Stuart Hall (1995) to examine Westerling's representation in films. This research resulted in the answer that Jim Taihuttu was quite objective in depicting Westerling by representing nicknames, life, and cruelty, but also balanced by de Turk's friendly nature towards his soldiers. The representation of the character de Turk by Jim Taihuttu's "De Oost" indirectly illustrates how the new generation of Netherlands views Raymond Westerling in a more objective way.

Abstract

Chaos theory explicates how small things can result in big differences. Its basic principles can provide an alternative means for literary and non-literary interpretations. This study will explore how the principles of chaos theory can be utilized, together with commonly used literary theories, as an analytic lens to analyze the dramatic text of Shakespeare. The argument is built upon how Macbeth, viewed as a complex and chaotic system, become a strange attractor for both theater performances and cinematic adaptations, in an effort to understand the interconnection between the play and its reproductions as complex networks. Various elements of the text will be discussed, including its structure, language expressions and character patterning, as well as the choices of action – reaction determined to be taken by the characters in the play.

Abstract

Vertical housing is often considered a viable solution to address the high population density in DKI Jakarta. However, it poses a challenge when such housing is situated within Cultural Heritage zones that require preservation. This scenario gives rise to potential conflicts of interest between the preservation of archaeological resources and the development of housing for the public's benefit, as exemplified in Kampung Akuarium. This study aims to elucidate the extent of community involvement in resolving the issues arising from apartment development within cultural heritage zones. It emphasizes the need for balanced community participation to achieve a win-win solution. The research methodology employed in this explanatory qualitative study entailed conducting in-depth interviews and direct field observations. The data collected revealed the Kampung Akuarium community's participatory approach in addressing the conflict of interest. The local community actively participated in both the development of the apartment complex and the preservation of archaeological resources. Their involvement was evident during the planning stage, policy implementation, and the actual development of the apartment complex situated in the cultural heritage zone. This collaborative participation has fostered harmonious preservation of archaeological resources while meeting the housing needs of the Kampung Akuarium community.
