Abstract

Traditional medicine comes from safe ingredients, namely, parts of plants. Based on BPOM No. 32 of 2019, several bacteria are required for the quality of traditional medicines in Indonesia, including Escherichia coli, Clostridia, Salmonella, and Shigella. An optimal pH medium is also needed in the microbial contamination test to produce optimal bacterial growth data. The method used is library search using electronic databases such as Google Scholar and Pubmed with the keywords "Effect of pH on bacterial growth" and other keywords related to microbes and types of bacterial contamination. The inclusion criteria were the sources published in the last ten years, either in English or Indonesian, with exclusion criteria being any sources published that did not discuss the effect of pH on bacterial growth. A total of 24 articles were found, with the final result being 11 articles reviewed. It was found that a difference in pH of at least 0.5 can significantly affect the growth of bacteria.

Abstract

The pharmaceutical industry must be able to ensure certainty in the production process through validation throughout the production process. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out process validation to ensure that every parameter and procedure used in each intermediate product production process obtains results that meet the requirements and specifications required. A sample is one of the guidelines in conducting process validation, so it is necessary to plan to determine the collection location based on risk and scientific reasons. This review aims to provide information on the tools used during the sampling process and the number of sample points taken on solid, semi-solid, and non-sterile liquid drug product preparations. Hopefully, this review can be a consideration for the pharmaceutical industry in planning sampling for the intermediate product during process validation. The method used is a library search from databases available online from ScienceDirect and standards from authoritative institutions. The results obtained in this review are tools that can be used in sampling patterns for solid preparations, namely thief samplers, simple bag-sampling spears, and scoop and for liquid and semi-solid non-sterile preparations, dip tubes and weighted containers. In the sampling pattern during the mixing process of the solid, there are 10 locations of sampling. While in the sampling pattern during the process of mixing liquid and semi-solid non-sterile, there are 9 locations of sampling. With this validity, it can represent the consistency of product quality.

Abstract

Storage is an act of storing and securing medicines in a protected place. Drug quality is essential to be maintained through storage. An improper storage system can cause drug ineffectiveness. The research objective was to evaluate the drug storage system at the Bandung Pharmacy. The research method used is descriptive observation, and the evaluation is carried out by observing the activities in the pharmacy. The results showed that the drug storage system in one of the pharmacies in the city of Bandung complies with the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 73 of 2016 concerning Pharmaceutical Service Standards at Pharmacies, which is 80%, where this value is included in the "Good" storage criteria.

Abstract

Drugs in the co-amorphous form are combinations of amorphous drugs with co-formers that have good solubility and stability so that dissolution becomes better and influences the therapeutic effect of drugs better, too the first time a co-amorphous formulation was made to overcome the low solubility of BCS class II. However, the current study found that co-amorphous formulations could improve solubility and the permeability of BCS class III and IV drugs. Co-amorphous production methods include cryo-milling, melting and quench cooling, solvent evaporation, and spray drying. This article review was conducted to gather information about BCS class II, III, and IV drugs made in co-amorphous forms to improve the physicochemical properties of drugs, such as solubility, permeability, and stability. Articles were collected from 20 research journals published over the last ten years. The co-amorphous drug testing of 10 drugs showed higher solubility and permeability than in crystal form

Abstract

Cough is a physiological reflex that occurs to protect the lungs from mechanical trauma or a natural defense process to maintain the respiratory tract by preventing the ingress of foreign bodies in the respiratory tract. Children are particularly susceptible to a wide variety of diseases such as acute respiratory infections. There are 3 types of cough medicines sold freely in Indonesia, namely for coughing up phlegm, dry cough and allergic cough, where the drug content in each type of cough medicine is different.  Cough medicine X is a sputum-thinning cough medicine containing bromhexine HCl that works to dilute sputum in the respiratory tract. This article contains clinical pharmaceutical studies related to cough medicine X with the active substance bromhexine HCl. Based on the results of clinical pharmaceutical studies, cough x medicine can be used as a treatment for cough phlegm in children.

Abstract

Background; Sundari Hospital Medan generates 762kg of medical waste yearly, with the inpatient room producing the most. Nurses segregate medical waste, both infectious and non-infectious, in violation of the provisions; this is thought to be due to factors such as knowledge, years of service, attitudes, the availability of facilities, and the use of less stringent sanctions. Purpose; The study examined the factors influencing nurses' behavior when sorting medical waste. Method; This research employed a descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach. The population was 52 inpatient nurses; all were taken as study samples. A questionnaire was used to collect data. The data was analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis and the chi-square test. Result; The results showed that knowledge of values (0.03<0.05), years of service (0.043<0.05), attitudes (0.035<0.05), availability of facilities (0.025<0.05), availability of information (0.032< 0.05), policy (0.018 <0.05), has an effect on behavior in sorting medical waste because it is smaller than 0.05. Educational factors (0.249 <0.05) have no effect. The most influential variable is the policy with the value of Sig. 0.018. Conclusion;  This study concluded that knowledge, years of service, attitudes, availability of facilities, information, and policies influence nurses' conduct when sorting medical waste. However, education has little effect. The policy was the most influential variable. The hospital should make and implement punishments for nurses who do not sort medical waste according to protocol; the hospital should arrange continual training/socialization, analyzes every month, and increase the number of medical waste sorting facilities.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a chronic disorder in which blood pressure in the blood vessels rises. Hypertension is characterized as having a systolic pressure of more than 140 mmHg and a diastolic pressure greater than 90 mmHg. The study aimed to assess the impact of food and nutritional status on the prevalence of hypertension in the elderly at Sultan Daulat Health Centre in Subulussalam City. The study was an analytic observational design with a case control. All older adults at the Sultan Daulat Health Centre in Subulussalam City who were hypertensive or not were included in the research. The case sample consisted of 22 hypertensive respondents, while the control sample consisted of 22 non-hypertensive respondents. The chi-square statistical test was used to assess data bivariately The results showed that there was a relationship between diet with a p-value of 0.004 <05 and OR 7.600 (95% CI) 1.732 – 33.347, fat intake with a p-value of 0.001 <05 and OR 13.571 (95% CI) 2.991 – 61.586, sodium intake with a p-value 0.000<05 and OR 12.000 (95% CI) 2.862 – 50.306 and nutritional status with a p-value of 0.002<05 and OR 9.643 (95% CI) 2.362 – 39.365 with the incidence of hypertension in the elderly at the Sultan Daulat Health Centre, Subulussalam. This study's recommendations were intended to regulate a balanced diet, minimize consumption of foods high in fat and sodium, and eat foods high in fiber to control excess body weight.
