Abstract

This study aims to describe the adjustment of marriage in couples who marry in the month of Muharram, which actually includes the full month of prohibition or taboo. Data were collected in Teluk Pakedai, Bugis central area in Kuburaya, through observation, interview, and documentation. The informant consisted of couples who got married in the month of Muharram and traditional leaders. In conclusion, there are several Buginese couples in Teluk Pakedai who are abstinent, getting married in the month of Muharram. So far, however, there have been no problems in their marriage. This couple can make adjustments normally without obstacles or problems as the community believes. Overall, their adjustment to a partner, sexual adjustment, and financial adjustment went well. The study also showed that neither the parents, the couple's family nor the community showed a bad stigma to the object.

Abstract

Klitih is a juvenile delinquent in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and is a social violence committed by young people due to many reasons, such as lack of parental care and the failure of schools in fostering positive character. Klitih is a type of youth anarchism carried out on the street by teenagers using samurai, swords, and knives to randomly stab people at night time. This study aims to determine how effective is the parenting role in addressing klitih among adolescents in Yogyakarta. Type of the study is field research with subjects that consist of five parents and five teachers in Banguntapan District, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, and relevant documents of the literature study. The research is a descriptive analysis where the researchers used interview narratives and citations of journals and books as either primary or secondary sources. The results show that parenting in dealing with adolescent clients focuses on three aspects: first, warmth which is determined by parents’ affection and emotional involvement with their children. Second, control which is characterized by parents who enforce discipline on their children. Third, communication between parents and children should maintain open communication. Furthermore, the roles of educational institutions in addressing klitih among teenagers are: the existence of moral education, value education, religious education, social education, intellectual education, spiritual education, democratic education, and the existence of extracurricular activities to instill character education in children.

Abstract

This paper discusses the terms and meanings of Quranic activities in the Malay community of Mempawah, West Kalimantan. The terms used are closely related to traditional Quranic activities to show information on the language used by the local community. The language in the Quranic activities that began to fade in use in the community due to the number of traditional teachers who are the parents of local language actors have died and the shift to more modern Quranic learning activities. The purpose of this paper is to record the term and meaning of Quranic activity as a Malay language document in Mempawah. This research is Qualitative with Sociolinguistic approach and interview collection technique, data provision, data analysis with literature review technique. This research resulted in 30 terms and meanings sourced from language sources; Indonesian, Malay, and Arabic as well as local languages whose sources are unknown. Terms and Meanings in Activities have similar meanings but different sounds by experiencing changes in sound and origin of language sources. The terms and meanings are related to; Equipment, Attitude, Petuah, and Level of Ability in Mempawah Malay Community's Quranic Activity.

Abstract

The article aims to describe the diaspora of the Hadramauts in the spread of Islam in West Kalimantan. The research uses a qualitative approach with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research results show: First, the diaspora of the al-Hadramaut people was based on political, economic, and da'wah factors. Especially since the death of Ali bin Abi Thalib as the last caliph of Khulafaur Rasyidin, especially the political pressure of Bani Umayyah, following Bani Abbasiyah on the political rights of Bani Hasyim. Making Bani Hasyim leave Hijas for Yaman as a trader and preacher in the West Kalimantan region. Second, preaching through cultural and structural approaches that created the birth of various Islamic kingdoms in Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Maluku and others. Third, his position as a formal and informal leader, as well as being attached to the power of following to give birth to the Kubu kingdom and the Pontianak Kingdom.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the efforts to improve students ' understanding and literacy in matters of ethnic culture through learning activities in Indonesian language courses in universities. This study was carried out qualitatively by using first semester students who took the subject of Indonesian in FUAD class. In this class, students are asked to keep a diary. After that, each of them was asked to provide feedback about the progress obtained after participating in the diary writing program. Data were collected through in-question and FGD as well as written questions. The Data is then processed qualitatively based on thematic approach. In conclusion, students who take Indonesian courses admit that they have made significant progress in understanding ethnic groups and cultures. Through the task of making up about different ethnic friends, the experience of participating in cross-ethnic cultural activities, they re-create positive memories about other ethnic groups. This study shows that understanding of ethnicity can be integrated through learning activities.
