Abstract

Primary dysmenorrhea is common among women, with a prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea in East Java is approximately 54.89% of the total 64.25% of dysmenorrhea cases. Central obesity is thought to increase prostaglandin production, which may potentially exacerbate menstrual pain. Waist-hip ratio is a simple indicator of central obesity; however, evidence regarding its association with the severity of primary dysmenorrhea remains inconsistent. This study aimed to determine the relationship between waist-hip ratio and the degree of primary dysmenorrhea among undergraduate midwifery students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya Malang. This study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 72 undergraduate midwifery students from the class of 2023 who experienced primary dysmenorrhea were selected as the sample using total sampling. Waist-hip ratios were measured using a measuring tape, while the severity of dysmenorrhea was assessed using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation. The analysis showed a significance value of 0.454 (p > 0.05) and the correlation coefficient (r) is 0.090, indicating that no statistically significant relationship was found between waist-hip ratio and the severity of primary dysmenorrhe among undergraduate midwifery students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya Malang. This study suggests that future research should select a sample with abnormal waist-hip ratios, control for confounding factors, and take measurements when respondents are experiencing dysmenorrhea.

Abstract

Menstruation is the final stage of the reproductive cycle, which is believed to be influenced by stress levels and nutritional status. These two aspects are considered the most dominant factors affecting menstrual cycle regularity in women. This study aims to analyze the relationship between stress levels and nutritional status with menstrual cycles in female students of the Nursing Study Program at Sriwijaya University. The research method used a correlational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 75 female students was selected using a probability sampling method with a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using the Kessler Psychological Disturbance Scale (K10) questionnaire and a menstrual cycle calendar sheet, and then analyzed using the Spearman rank test. The findings showed a significant positive relationship between stress levels and menstrual cycles (p = 0.0000, r = 0.402), indicating a moderate correlation where higher stress levels are associated with a greater risk of menstrual cycle irregularities. Similarly, a significant positive relationship was found between nutritional status and menstrual cycles (p = 0.012, r = 0.290). This indicates a weak correlation, suggesting that a more abnormal nutritional status increases the risk of menstrual irregularities. The conclusion of this study is that both stress levels and nutritional status are significantly correlated with menstrual cycle regularity.

Abstract

The incidence of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) among children under five at the Punti Kayu Public Health Center in Palembang remains high. Risk factors leading to ARI in this age group include severe complications that can result in mortality. In 2024, the prevalence of ARI reached 58.8%. Over the last three years, the number of ARI cases among children aged one to four years has steadily increased, with 47 cases recorded in 2022, 53 cases in 2023, and 64 cases in 2024. This research utilized a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population comprised all parents of children under five who visited the Punti Kayu Public Health Center Palembang for treatment in 2024, totaling 255 respondents, with a sample size of 72 children under five. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test and logistic regression. Results The statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship (p-value < 0.05) between the independent variables and the incidence of ARI. Specifically, both residential density (p-value = 0.00), and ventilation (p-value = 0.00) were significantly associated with ARI incidence. Conclusion This study concludes that there is a significant relationship between household crowding, ventilation, and the incidence of ARI in children under five.

Abstract

One of the diseases in pediatric patients with a fairly high incidence rate globally is gastroenteritis. One of the nursing problems that arise is pain. Pain is based on conditions such as diarrhea that can cause the emergence of pain perception due to the release of histamine that stimulates pain receptors. Untreated pain problems in pediatric patients can trigger other complex problems and can prolong the recovery period. One effective non-pharmacological method for managing pain is audiovisual distraction. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of audiovisual distraction therapy in pediatric patients experiencing acute gastroenteritis with acute pain at Majenang Regional Hospital. This study was conducted using a case study design  . Data collection for this study was carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The subjects in this study were two children (2-4 years old) who experienced AG with acute pain at Majenang Regional Hospital. The pain measurement tool used was the FLACC scale. Audiovisual distraction given for 10 minutes in children experiencing acute gastroenteritis with acute pain resulted in a decrease in pain levels, although not a significant change, and the patient was calmer. In An. N pain scale 2 (mild) changed to scale 0 (no pain), while in An. R pain scale 6 (moderate) changed to scale 4 (moderate). Audiovisual distraction  reduce the scale of acute pain in pediatric patients experiencing acute gastroenteritis. It is hoped that therapy can be applied independently to reduce pain in children with acute gastroenteritis.
