Abstract

This article aims to examine the strategic role of Caliph Abu Ja'far al-Mansur in shaping the foundations of Islamic education during the early Abbasid dynasty. The focus of this research is to explore how the political stability built by al-Mansur led to the advancement of Islamic science and education. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a historical approach, through a literature study of historical documents, biographies of figures, and relevant scientific literature. Data collection techniques were conducted through literature review, and the data were analyzed narratively and contextually. The results showed that Abu Ja'far al-Mansur played an important role in strengthening the Islamic education system through the development of the city of Baghdad as a center of science, empowering traditional institutions such as mosques, kuttabs, and halaqahs, as well as initiating a movement to translate foreign works into Arabic. He also opened up space for the participation of non-Arabs (mawali) in intellectual activities and began to build an administrative system that supported education and learning. This finding confirms that the era of al-Mansur was the initial period of the formation of an Islamic education system that was inclusive, dynamic, and became the basis for scientific development in the following period.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing phenomenon of self-diagnosis and the overflow of unverified information on social media, which has worsened public understanding of psychological issues. In the digital era, mental health has become an increasingly relevant issue, especially among younger generations. Positive narratives play a vital role in restoring meaning, fostering empathy, and addressing the negative stigma associated with mental disorders. This study aims to examine how Kutub.co builds positive narratives about mental health through educational content on social media, analyze audience responses, and identify the challenges faced in the narrative-building process. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The results show that Kutub.co builds positive narratives through visually engaging and communicative content that addresses psychological issues in an accessible and informative manner. Audience responses were generally positive, as reflected in active interactions and support for the messages conveyed. The main challenges faced by Kutub.co include limited human resources and the risk of misinterpretation by the audience. This study indicates that social media can serve as a constructive space to raise public awareness and understanding of mental health issues.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the Islamic educational values contained in the Qashidah Jaljalut, a classical text often associated with mystical and esoteric practices. This study arises from a conceptual gap in the understanding of Islamic education sources. While Islamic education is generally linked to formal tarbiyah literature, there exists a prevailing perception that the Qashidah Jaljalut, as found in Manba’ Ushul Hikmah and Shams al-Ma’arif, is merely a product of occultism and supernatural tradition. This research seeks to critically verify such claims and to uncover the educational and spiritual dimensions embedded within the text as an antithesis to those assumptions. Using a qualitative library research design, this study employs a descriptive-analytical approach and content analysis techniques to interpret the text within the framework of fundamental Islamic values. The analysis draws upon core principles of iman (faith), tawhid (monotheism), ibadah (worship), akhlaq (morality), and muamalah (social relations) as benchmarks of Islamic education. The findings reveal that despite its mystical presentation, the Qashidah Jaljalut conveys profound messages of Islamic pedagogy and spirituality. It emphasizes the strengthening of faith, recognition of divine oneness, disciplined worship, moral refinement, and ethical social behavior. These elements demonstrate that the Qashidah Jaljalut functions not only as a literary or mystical work but also as a medium for moral and spiritual formation in the tradition of Islamic education. Therefore, this study contributes to recontextualizing classical Islamic texts within contemporary educational discourse, highlighting their potential relevance in nurturing holistic religious understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze curriculum management at Darul Atqiya Islamic Boarding School in Sindangkerta Maja in implementing the Nine-Year Compulsory Education program and the 2013 Curriculum. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included school leaders, teachers, education staff, and students. The findings indicate that the curriculum was implemented through planning, implementation, and evaluation based on Islamic education principles and national education regulations. The school leader’s strategies focused on integrating the national curriculum with the traditional pesantren curriculum (kitab kuning), while teacher professionalism played a key role in the success of curriculum implementation. Despite challenges in lesson planning, authentic assessment, and limited facilities, the pesantren has shown positive achievements in improving education quality. The study concludes that curriculum management at Darul Atqiya Islamic Boarding School is relatively effective but requires stronger institutional support, teacher mentoring, and better alignment between the national curriculum and pesantren needs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the legal status of children born out of wedlock by comparing the concept of lineage (nasab) in classical Islamic jurisprudence with its interpretation under Indonesian law. The issue is complex, situated at the intersection of religious doctrine, state law, and human rights. In Islamic legal tradition, lineage is established only through a valid marriage (nikah sahih), with children born outside marriage attributed solely to the mother in order to preserve the sanctity of marriage and the clarity of descent. By contrast, Indonesia’s legal framework experienced a significant transformation following Constitutional Court Decision No. 46/PUU-VIII/2010, which amended the Civil Code and the 1974 Marriage Law. The ruling allows children born outside marriage to establish a civil relationship with their biological father if paternity is proven through scientific evidence or acknowledgment. This judicial interpretation diverges sharply from the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI), which continues to uphold classical fiqh principles. Employing a doctrinal and comparative legal methodology, this study analyzes primary sources including the Qur’an, Hadith, classical fiqh, the Indonesian Constitution, statutory law, the KHI, and the Constitutional Court’s ruling alongside relevant secondary literature. The findings reveal a persistent tension between Islamic law, which confines legitimate paternity to marital bonds, and Indonesia’s evolving legal orientation toward the protection of children’s rights and identity. This duality generates legal uncertainty and underscores the need for harmonization between religious and state frameworks. The paper concludes that a more integrative legal approach is required—one that reconciles Islamic principles with the universal imperative to safeguard every child’s rights and welfare, regardless of birth circumstances.

Abstract

This article addresses the apparent paradox in Ibn Taymiyyah's thought: his reputation for rigid literalism in theology contrasted with his flexibility and contextualism in socio-political law. This study aims to demonstrate that this distinction represents not an inconsistency, but rather a conscious and coherent strategy of epistemological demarcation. Employing a qualitative library research method, the study utilizes socio-historical readings and content analysis of Ibn Taymiyyah's key concepts within the realms of creed (aqidah) and jurisprudence/politics (fiqh/siyasah). The findings indicate that Ibn Taymiyyah distinguishes revelatory texts based on the character of their objects: theological verses are positioned as a tawqifi domain demanding submission (taslim) without philosophical speculation, whereas legal verses are understood through a maqashidi lens, opening space for independent reasoning (ijtihad) to achieve public benefit (maslahah). This pattern is consistent in his reading of divine attribute verses (e.g., Q.S. Ṭāhā: 5), which tends to be affirmative without metaphorical interpretation (ta'wil), and in his contextual approach to public law issues, such as limiting the application of war verses (e.g., Q.S. At-Taubah: 5) through historical context and legal objectives. These findings correct simplistic binary labelings of Ibn Taymiyyah and help explain the error of certain contemporary groups who inappropriately transpose theological rigidity into the public legal sphere, which ought to remain responsive.
