Abstract

Stomata are important structures on the leaf surface that function to regulate gas exchange and water loss in plants. Students often experience misconceptions about the relationship between plant structure and function because the learning resources used tend to be text-based without the support of contextual examples or direct observation. This study aims to identify the types of stomata in three types of shade trees within the UIN Raden Mas Said environment, serving as contextual learning resources for plant structure and development. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The materials used include ketapang leaves (Terminalia catappa), pulai leaves (Alstonia scholaris), and breadfruit leaves (Artocarpus altilis), as well as distilled water. Observations were made under a light microscope at 100× and 400× magnification. The observation data were analysed descriptively by comparing the characteristics of the stomata found in the three species with those of stomata types in the literature. Observations show that ketapang (Terminalia catappa) and breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) leaves have anomocytic stomata, while pulai (Alstonia scholaris) leaves have anisocytic stomata. These findings provide stomatal morphology data that can be used as locally based teaching materials to enhance students' connections between botanical concepts and their environment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of a project-based differentiated learning model on the scientific literacy of tenth-grade students in biotechnology material at SMAN 1 Turi, considering students' learning styles. The research method employed was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The study involved two groups of students: the experimental group, which used the project-based differentiated learning model, and the control group, which used the discovery learning model. The results showed that the average Post-test score of the experimental group increased by 43.2%, from an average Pre-test score of 26.44 to 37.88. In contrast, the control group experienced only a 17% increase, from an average score of 29.91 to 31.41. Additionally, analysis based on learning styles revealed that students with visual learning styles experienced the highest increase in scientific literacy, followed by those with auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. Overall, the application of the project-based differentiated learning model increased learning effectiveness by 76% in the experimental group compared to conventional learning methods. This study concludes that a differentiated, project-based learning model is effective in enhancing students' scientific literacy, particularly in the field of biotechnology. It highlights the importance of considering learning styles in the learning process. These findings offer practical implications for teachers in designing innovative learning experiences tailored to students' individual needs.

Abstract

This research was conducted at MAN 2 Yogyakarta and involved 65 students from grade XI MIPA, who were selected as samples using the census method. This type of research is correlational ex post facto with a quantitative approach. Biology learning experiences were measured using a Likert scale questionnaire and supported by in-depth interviews with teachers, while students' scientific literacy abilities were assessed using a test created in reference to the PISA 2018 competency aspects. Data analysis techniques used descriptive analysis and Pearson Product-Moment correlation analysis. The results showed that students' biology learning experiences that were categorised as very high were four students (6%), high were 15 students (23%), moderate were 29 students (45%), low were 13 students (20%), and very low were four students (6%). Scientific literacy abilities on the issue of stunting that were categorised as very high were three students (5%), high were 22 students (34%), moderate were 24 students (37%), low were 12 students (18%), and very low were four students (6%). There is a positive and significant relationship between biology learning experiences and stunting issues, as well as scientific literacy skills (correlation coefficient of 0.283 and significance of 0.022). Furthermore, biology learning experiences are known to have only an 8% influence on scientific literacy skills, with 92% being influenced by other factors, such as the selection of teaching materials and the use of learning media. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the better the biology learning experience, the better the students' scientific literacy skills on stunting issues.

Abstract

This study aims to identify students' learning difficulties in ecosystem materials based on differences in learning strategies and factors causing learning difficulties, and to describe the efforts made by students and teachers to overcome these learning difficulties. This study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Bantul from February to May 2025. The method used in this study was a combination of descriptive, quantitative and qualitative methods. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that students experienced fewer learning difficulties in the Discovery Learning (DL) strategy compared to the Project-based Learning (PjBL) strategy. The factor causing learning difficulties in the Discovery Learning (DL) strategy was low student interest in learning, whereas the cause in the Project-based Learning (PBL) strategy was the numerous community activities in which students participated and the teacher's lack of readiness. The efforts made by students included dividing tasks into groups and utilising additional learning resources, while teachers played a role in providing scaffolding and extending the project's duration. These findings suggest that the selection of learning strategies should consider the characteristics and readiness of students to learn.
