Abstract

This study examines the application of systems thinking in modern healthcare organizations, with a particular focus on Peter Senge’s Fifth Discipline. Using a systematic literature review of 20 selected articles, the study investigates the potential and challenges of applying systems thinking across key areas such as patient safety, service integration, resource management, and innovation. Findings indicate that systems thinking provides a holistic framework to better understand and address the inherent complexity of healthcare systems. By fostering interconnections among organizational components, it enhances the capacity to improve performance, ensure patient-centered care, and support sustainable change. Nevertheless, implementation is hindered by obstacles such as resistance to change, lack of shared understanding, and difficulties in measuring systemic outcomes. To address these barriers, the study highlights strategies including leadership development, staff training, and the establishment of appropriate evaluation tools. These measures strengthen organizational readiness and support a culture of continuous learning. The study concludes that systems thinking offers valuable insights for healthcare organizations to adapt to evolving challenges, but its success requires long-term commitment, supportive leadership, and systematic implementation. Future research should further explore the integration of systems thinking with emerging digital health technologies and assess its long-term impact on health outcomes and organizational resilience.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a major challenge in today's health development. One category of these diseases is hypertension, which is classified as a chronic disease with a relatively high mortality rate. Hypertension serves as a major predictor for various chronic diseases and is a common disease found in the community (Putri et al., 2025). If not managed properly, hypertension can lead to more serious complications such as stroke, coronary heart disease, diabetes, kidney failure, and blindness. Stroke (51%) and coronary heart disease (45%) are the leading causes of death related to hypertension (Pokhrel, 2024). The increasing prevalence of hypertension along with changes in lifestyle and unhealthy eating patterns adds to the global health burden. Therefore, effective management of hypertension is essential to prevent further complications. Appropriate hypertension management and regular monitoring can reduce the risk of related diseases, improve quality of life, and reduce mortality caused by complications of heart disease and stroke. Preventive and promotive efforts through health education are key to reducing the prevalence of hypertension in the community.

Abstract

Abstract

Ciplukan leaves, kamilen flowers, and stevia leaves are widely used herbal plants known for their pharmacological activities, which are mainly attributed to the presence of secondary metabolite compounds. These compounds play an important role in providing therapeutic effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. One approach to enhancing the effectiveness of these plants is by combining them into a single preparation. This study aims to identify the content of secondary metabolite compounds in a combined infusion (infusa) of ciplukan leaves, kamilen flowers, and stevia leaves. The research method used is a laboratory experimental approach, which includes plant determination, preparation of infusion, and phytochemical screening. The infusion process is carried out to extract active compounds using water as a solvent under controlled conditions. The phytochemical screening is conducted to qualitatively detect the presence of various bioactive compounds. The results of the screening on three formulations (F1, F2, and F3) show that all infusa preparations contain several important secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and terpenoids. These findings indicate that the combination of the three herbal plants has the potential to provide enhanced pharmacological effects due to the diversity of active compounds present in the formulation.
