Abstract

Acinetobacter baumannii is a major pathogenic bacterium causing nosocomial infections, known to exhibit high levels of resistance to various antibiotic classes, including β-lactams and aminoglycosides. This widespread resistance poses a significant challenge in hospital patient management, particularly in cases of severe and difficult-to-treat infections. This study aimed to analyze the resistance patterns of A. baumannii to four types of antibiotics in patients with various blood types at Dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro General Hospital, Klaten. The research method used was a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with healthcare workers, analysis of patient medical records, and limited observation of clinical practice. The focus of the study was directed at the relationship between patient blood type and the level of antibiotic resistance of A. baumannii. The results showed variations in resistance patterns based on blood type. Patients with blood type AB showed the highest level of resistance to all tested antibiotics, with a prevalence of multidrug resistance (MDR) reaching 85%. In contrast, patients with blood type O showed the lowest resistance and the highest proportion of non-MDR isolates compared to other groups. These findings indicate the role of host factors, namely blood type, in influencing the level of resistance of A. baumannii. The suspected mechanisms involved include differences in surface antigens that influence bacterial adhesion, biofilm formation, and the host immune response. The practical implication of this study is the need to consider blood type as a factor in empirical antibiotic therapy, especially in cases of nosocomial infections caused by A. baumannii.

Abstract

Sleep is a vital state of rest for humans to maintain a healthy body. After a day of activity, the body requires adequate sleep to recover and regain energy. One common sleep disorder is insomnia, characterized by difficulty sleeping both in terms of quality and quantity. Insomnia has traditionally been treated with sedatives, drugs that reduce anxiety and provide a calming effect with little or no impairment to motor and mental function. However, long-term use of chemical drugs can cause side effects, necessitating alternatives, one of which is the use of traditional medicine. Areca nut (Areca catechu L.) is known to possess antioxidant, antimutagenic, astringent (tightening), and intoxicating properties that have long been used in traditional medicine. This study was conducted experimentally in a laboratory to determine the sedative-hypnotic effects of areca nut ethanol extract. The observed parameter was survival time on the rotarod, and the data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA for homogeneity testing and Shapiro-Wilk for normality testing. If the data were not homogeneous or normal (p < 0.05), the analysis was continued with the nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed that administration of areca nut ethanol suspension as a positive control with varying doses did not produce significant differences, meaning that all three doses had the same sedative-hypnotic effect. In the treatment groups with areca nut ethanol extract doses of 0.52 mg/kgBW and 0.78 mg/kgBW, significant differences were observed compared to the negative control, indicating a clear sedative-hypnotic effect. Therefore, it can be concluded that areca nut (Areca catechu L.) ethanol extract at doses of 0.52 mg/kgBW and 0.78 mg/kgBW has the potential to provide sedative-hypnotic effects and can therefore be used as an alternative treatment for sleep disorders.

Abstract

Mental health is an important aspect that supports quality of life, including a state of well-being related to happiness, satisfaction, achievement, optimism, and dynamic hope according to life situations (Fitri, 2025; Herlina et al., 2024). Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder characterized by an inability to communicate, impaired perception of reality (illusions and hallucinations), and loss of self-confidence, included in the category of psychosis (Mardiana et al., 2024). The purpose of writing this scientific paper is to find out and implement psychiatric nursing care for Mr. R, with the main problem of sensory perception disorders: auditory hallucinations due to schizophrenia that are not detailed in the Hudowol Room of Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Mental Hospital, Central Java Province. The method used is a descriptive approach with a case study. The case review results showed that the client heard male and female voices saying negative things and often talked to himself. The problem tree identified sensory perception disorders: auditory hallucinations as the core problem, accompanied by self-care deficits, social isolation, and the risk of violent behavior. Interventions are designed based on implementation strategy guidelines for clients and families, implemented, and evaluated as documented evidence

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition with a high prevalence among the elderly population and is often overlooked despite its potential to cause severe complications, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney damage. Effective management of hypertension requires not only pharmacological treatment but also patient adherence to prescribed therapies, which is closely linked to their knowledge and understanding of the disease. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge levels and medication adherence among elderly hypertension patients at Sari Asih Hospital in Tangerang. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, and a total of 80 respondents were selected using non-probability sampling techniques. Data were collected using structured questionnaires that assessed both knowledge about hypertension and adherence to medication regimens. Statistical analysis was conducted using Kendall’s tau correlation, which revealed a strong and significant relationship between knowledge and medication adherence (τ = 0.759, p = 0.000). These findings indicate that elderly patients with higher levels of knowledge about hypertension are more likely to adhere to their medication schedules consistently, thereby reducing the risk of complications. The results underscore the importance of continuous health education and counseling for elderly patients to strengthen their awareness and self-management skills. In conclusion, increasing knowledge through targeted health promotion programs can play a vital role in improving adherence to hypertension treatment and ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.

Abstract

Fractures are conditions of discontinuation of bone or cartilage, either partially or completely, which often require surgical treatment. One of the commonly used procedures is Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF), which is an open surgical procedure with the installation of fixation tools such as pins, screws, and plates to repair broken bones. This procedure generally causes postoperative pain that needs to be treated effectively. Pain management can be done through pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Lavender aromatherapy is one of the non-pharmacological methods that has the potential to provide a relaxing and analgesic effect. This study aims to determine the effect of lavender aromatherapy on the level of pain in patients after ORIF surgery. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a Quasi Experiment design. The sampling technique was carried out in total sampling with a total of 28 respondents post-operative ORIF patients at Dr. H. Soewondo Kendal Hospital. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to determine the difference in pain levels before and after the administration of aromatherapy. The results showed a p value of 0.000, which indicated a significant influence between the administration of lavender aromatherapy on the reduction of the patient's pain level. The conclusion of this study is that lavender aromatherapy is effective in reducing the intensity of postoperative pain of ORIF, so that it can be used as an alternative to nonpharmacological therapy in postoperative pain management. This study recommends the integration of aromatherapy in nursing practice to improve patient comfort.

Abstract

The family has an important role in the treatment process of cancer patients, especially in providing motivation during treatment. Social support from families has a great influence on the psychological condition of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. As the health workers who interact most intensely with patients, nurses play a role in empowering families through education and counseling to improve the quality of support provided. This study aims to analyze the relationship between social support and motivation to recover in breast cancer patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. The study used a correlational descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 77 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling techniques based on certain inclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out through a structured questionnaire, and statistical analysis was carried out using the Pearson correlation test. The results showed a significant relationship between social support and motivation to recover, with a correlation value of 0.478 and a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that the higher the level of social support patients receive, the greater their motivation to recover. The conclusion of this study is that social support has a positive contribution to increasing the healing motivation of breast cancer patients. Therefore, nursing interventions that actively involve families need to be improved as part of a holistic approach to the care of cancer patients.

Abstract

Appendicitis is an inflammatory condition of the small intestinal tract that is about 4 inches in size and located at the end of the secum. This condition often causes significant pain and requires effective management. In addition to pharmacological approaches, non-pharmacological methods such as relaxation techniques and alternative therapies are beginning to be widely applied to reduce pain and anxiety. One promising method is 5-finger hypnosis therapy, which is a relaxation technique that harnesses the power of the mind to achieve calmness and reduce the perception of pain. This study aims to determine the effect of 5-finger hypnosis therapy on pain reduction in appendicitis patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. The research design used was quasi-experimental with a pre-posttest one group approach. A total of 32 appendicitis patients were selected as samples using the total sampling technique. Pain scales were measured before and after the intervention, then analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The results showed a Z-value of -3.097 and a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pain levels before and after therapy. These findings prove that 5-finger hypnosis therapy is effective in reducing pain in appendicitis patients. This study recommends the application of 5-finger hypnosis therapy as a non-pharmacological approach that can support patient comfort and accelerate the recovery process holistically.

Abstract

Monitoring hemodynamic conditions, particularly oxygen saturation (SpO₂) and heart rate, is a crucial aspect of neonatal care, especially in critical conditions. In addition to therapeutic interventions, supportive measures such as repositioning (postural change) can help optimize ventilation distribution and lung function, which directly affect hemodynamic stability. This study aimed to examine the effect of repositioning on oxygen saturation and heart rate levels in neonates in the Peristi Room at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. This research employed a one-group pretest-posttest design with 27 neonatal respondents. The procedure involved alternating the neonates’ positions to supine, right lateral, and left lateral for two hours in each position, followed by measurement of SpO₂ and heart rate before and after repositioning. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, as some data were not normally distributed. The results showed a significant difference in heart rate after the right lateral position (p=0.027), while the change in SpO₂ was not significant (p=0.125). The left lateral and supine positions showed no significant changes in either heart rate or SpO₂ (p>0.05). It can be concluded that repositioning, particularly in the right lateral position, positively influences hemodynamic stability in neonates. Future studies are recommended to include a larger sample size for more comprehensive findings.
