Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood sugar due to decreased insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells and/or impaired insulin function. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between HbA1c levels and the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) in Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients at Dr. Rasidin Padang Regional General Hospital. This type of research employs quantitative methods and a descriptive design and was conducted in January 2024. The population was all type II diabetes mellitus patients at Dr. Rasidin Padang Regional General Hospital, totaling 55 patients, while the sampling used the total sampling technique. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-square test. The results of the study showed that 40% had prediabetes HbA1c levels, and 50.9% had abnormal erythrocyte sedimentation rates (ESR). There was a relationship between HbA1c levels and erythrocyte sedimentation rates (ESR) (p = 0.015) in type II diabetes mellitus patients at Dr. Rasidin Padang Regional General Hospital. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between HbA1c levels and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in type II diabetes mellitus patients at Dr. Rasidin Padang Regional Hospital. Suggestions: All healthcare workers are expected to provide information about the relationship between HbA1c levels and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Health workers should conduct HbA1c examinations more routinely in type II diabetes mellitus patients with tuberculosis

Abstract

The prevalence of worm disease in Indonesia is around 45-65%. The cause of worm infections that are still common in Indonesia is intestinal nematodes. The intestinal nematode group inhabits the digestive tract and is classified within the Soil-Transmitted Helminths group. This group requires contact with warm, moist soil to reach an infectious form. Clinically important soil-transmitted helminth species that infect humans are Ascaris Lumbricoides (roundworm), Trichuris Trichiura (whipworm), Anylostoma Duodenale, and Necator Americanus. This study aimed to determine the effect of red spinach extract (Amaranthus tricolor L.) on the morphology of soil-transmitted helminth eggs as a substitute for 2% Eosin. The research method used was experimental research, and the design used was Statistical Group Comparison. The results of this study are that red spinach extract (Amaranthus tricolor L.) can be used as an alternative coloring in the microscopic examination of soil-transmitted helminth worm eggs. A concentration of 1:1 shows the optimal concentration that can color Soil Transmitted Helminth worm eggs.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a condition of low oxygen levels in the blood caused by a lack of iron intake, which is necessary for the formation of hemoglobin. There are two ways to prevent anemia: pharmacologically, by taking iron tablets, and non-pharmacologically, by consuming Ambon banana smoothies. Purpose: To determine the effect of administering Ambon banana smoothies on hemoglobin levels in pregnant women in their third trimester with anemia at the Wahdiati Maternity Clinic in Tangerang Regency. Methods: The data analysis used was univariate analysis. The average hemoglobin level before the administration of Ambon banana smoothies in the control group was 10,56 g/dL, while in the intervention group it was 10,29 g/dL. The average hemoglobin level after administration of Ambon banana smoothies in the control group was 11,50 g/dL, while in the intervention group it was 12,36 g/dL. The results of the bivariate analysis using an independent t-test yielded a p-value of 0,001 (p < 0,05). This finding indicates that there was a significant difference in the increase in hemoglobin levels between the control group and the intervention group. Conclusion: Ambon banana smoothies are a safe and effective alternative therapy for increasing hemoglobin levels. Further research with larger samples and longer intervention durations is recommended to reinforce these findings Keywords: anemia in pregnant women, hemoglobin levels, ambon banana smoothies, third trimester, nutritional intervention.

Abstract

Background: Primary dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual disorder among adolescent girls that can disrupt daily activities and reduce quality of life. One non-pharmacological method to relieve pain is acupressure, which involves applying pressure to specific points on the body to stimulate blood circulation and release endorphins. However, studies on its effectiveness in the working area of Puskesmas Munjul Jaya remain limited. Purpose: To determine the effect of acupressure on the level of dysmenorrhea pain among adolescent girls in the working area of Puskesmas Munjul Jaya. Methods: This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest one group design. The sample consisted of 36 adolescent girls with primary dysmenorrhea, selected using purposive sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after acupressure intervention, which was performed for three consecutive days. Data were analyzed using the paired samples t-test. Results: The mean pain score before the intervention was 7.11, which decreased to 3.17 after the intervention, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Acupressure is effective in reducing dysmenorrhea pain among adolescent girls and can be recommended as a safe and simple alternative therapy.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnant women is a serious health issue with a high prevalence of 61.8% in Garut Regency, Indonesia. Effective and safe interventions are needed to prevent pregnancy complications. Wellness shots made from beetroot and red guava, local food-based non-pharmacological treatments, have potential to increase hemoglobin levels by enhancing iron absorption. Purpose: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of beetroot and red guava wellness shots in improving hemoglobin levels among pregnant women with moderate anemia at Samarang Health Center, Garut Regency. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was conducted involving 44 third-trimester pregnant women with hemoglobin levels between 7.0 and 9.9 g/dL. Participants were divided into two intervention groups, each receiving wellness shots for 14 consecutive days. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after the intervention using a digital hemoglobin meter. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, paired t-test, and independent t-test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Both groups showed significant increases in hemoglobin levels. The beetroot group’s mean hemoglobin increased from 8.69 to 9.56 g/dL, while the red guava group’s mean increased from 8.66 to 9.26 g/dL (p < 0.001). Comparison of post-intervention hemoglobin levels revealed a significantly greater increase in the beetroot group compared to the red guava group (p = 0.009). Conclusion: Wellness shots made from beetroot and red guava effectively increase hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with moderate anemia, with beetroot showing superior effectiveness.

Abstract

Introduction: Prolonged active phase of labor increases the risk of maternal and neonatal complications. One non-pharmacological method to accelerate labor is the pelvic rocking technique using a birthing ball. Objective: To determine the effect of pelvic rocking on the duration of the active phase of the first stage of labor in the working area of Kalapanunggal Health Center. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a two-group posttest-only design was conducted on 30 women in labor, divided into an intervention group (pelvic rocking, n=15) and a control group (light walking, n=15) selected by purposive sampling. Instruments included partographs and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. Results: Most respondents were aged 20–35 years (66.7%) and primiparous (56.7%). The mean duration of the active phase of the first stage was 221 minutes in the intervention group and 390 minutes in the control group (p=0.000). The mean duration of the second stage was 77 minutes in the intervention group and 108 minutes in the control group (p=0.021). Conclusion: Pelvic rocking significantly shortens the duration of both the active phase of the first stage and the second stage of labor. This technique can be recommended as an effective and easily applied non-pharmacological intervention to support labor progress.
