Abstract

This study examines the influence of visitor satisfaction on the decision to visit Jakarta, using an international music festival We the Fest (WTF) as a case study. WTF is an annual large-scale event that combines music performances, arts, fashion, and culinary experiences, organized by Ismaya Live in Jakarta. The research employed a quantitative method with purposive sampling involving 96 respondents from outside Jakarta who had attended WTF at least once. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation, coefficient of determination (R²), and t-test, utilizing SPSS v25. The results indicate a significant influence of event satisfaction on the decision to visit Jakarta, with a t_count value of 8.521 > t_table (1.986) and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.436 suggests that 43.6% of the variance in visiting decisions is influenced by satisfaction with WTF, while the remaining 56.4% is affected by other factors not examined in this study. These findings have important implications for event organizers and urban tourism managers, particularly in enhancing the quality of visitor experiences to encourage repeat visits and strengthen Jakarta's image as a tourism destination.

Abstract

Sibandang Island is part of the Toba Caldera UNESCO Global Sibandang Island, part of the Toba Caldera UNESCO Global Geopark, possesses significant cultural and natural potential, yet faces substantial challenges in tourism promotion. Previous research indicated that marketing feasibility was only 8%, despite cultural and natural potential reaching 98%. This disparity highlights the absence of a targeted and sustainable promotional strategy. This study aims to design a sustainable tourism promotion strategy for cultural events on Sibandang Island, emphasizing local cultural authenticity and sustainability, with a focus on cultural and technological pillars. The methodology employed is qualitative descriptive research. Data analysis utilizes content and thematic analysis based on indicators from a sustainable promotion matrix. Subsequently, the analysis results are developed into a promotional strategy using the SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, Results) approach. The targeted output is a local culture-based sustainable tourism promotion strategy in the form of a final document, intended as a reference for local government, tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis), and tourism promotion stakeholders. This research is expected to enhance the effectiveness of tourism promotion and contribute to the sustainable preservation of local culture on Sibandang Island.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of knowledge regarding inclusivity on the perception of hearing audiences towards the use of Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) at Indonesian music festivals. The research background stems from the high enthusiasm of Indonesian society for music concerts, as indicated by the 2024 Populix survey. Despite music being considered a universal language, accessibility for the Deaf community remains a significant issue. The use of SLIs at music concerts is a transformative step to bridge this gap, but its effectiveness depends on the perception and acceptance of hearing audiences. Methodology This study employs a quantitative design with a survey method, involving at least 100 hearing audience respondents who have attended music festivals in Indonesia. Purposive and snowball sampling techniques are used to reach the respondents. An online questionnaire with a Likert scale is used to measure inclusivity knowledge and perceptions of SLIs. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the understanding of how to enhance inclusivity at music festivals, highlighting the importance of knowledge and perception as key factors.

Abstract

Surabaya, known as the City of Heroes, possesses vast potential in cultural heritage tourism. The purpose of this study is to develop a bilingual travel pattern entitled “Surabaya Cultural Heritage”. The need for this study aims to improve Surabaya’s image as a cultural tourism destination while supporting the increase in local and foreign tourist visits to Surabaya for the purpose of vacationing and supporting the Surabaya government's efforts in maximizing the tourism sector. The objective is to create an informative, accessible, and attractive guide that aligns with government efforts to boost the tourism and creative economy sectors. This travel pattern is presented bilingually (English-Indonesian) to meet the linguistic needs of a wider audience. This study is supported by the theory of travel pattern, which explains the structured movement of tourists to maximize experiences. One relevant previous study by Hardiyanti (2021) succeeded in creating a bilingual guidebook for Kampoeng Heritage Kajoetangan that enhanced visitor engagement. The study used the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), employing qualitative methods such as observation, interviews, expert validation (four expert validators: content, language, design, and media), and field testing involving 50 respondents. The results of the travel pattern indicate that the bilingual travel pattern was well-received, effectively helping tourists navigate and understand Surabaya’s cultural heritage sites. Discussion of findings reveals that the product improves destination accessibility and tourist experience, especially through route recommendations and QR code integration. The study concludes that such a tool supports cultural tourism and can act as a promotional medium. The writer suggests future development includes adding more languages and incorporating interactive digital features to expand outreach and engagement.

Abstract

Event organization in Indonesia still faces significant challenges in ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities, despite their population reaching more than 22 million people, or approximately 8.5% of the total population. The low participation of persons with disabilities in events indicates a gap between accessibility needs and current event management practices. This study aims to identify accessibility needs and formulate strategies for providing access for persons with disabilities in event organization in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative approach using Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving multiple stakeholders, including disability organizations (PPDI, PERTUNI, and GERKATIN) and event industry actors (ASPERAPI and Backstagers Indonesia). Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns of needs, barriers, and existing practices. The findings reveal that accessibility needs encompass four main aspects: (1) physical access, such as ramps, guiding blocks, and inclusive spatial facilities; (2) information and communication access, including sign language interpreters, visual media, and screen reader technologies; (3) service and participation access, including the involvement of persons with disabilities as active participants and event staff; and (4) safety and comfort access, including evacuation systems and disability-friendly supporting facilities. The main barriers identified include limited awareness among event organizers, lack of standardized operational guidelines, and insufficient policy and infrastructure support. Based on these findings, this study proposes accessibility provision strategies through a multi-stakeholder approach, including strengthening event accessibility standards, enhancing human resource capacity through inclusivity training, utilizing assistive technologies, and fostering collaboration with disability organizations throughout all stages of event management. This study contributes by offering a strategic framework for inclusive event organization that can serve as a reference for government institutions, event organizers, and related stakeholders in promoting accessible and inclusive events in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to explore visitors' perceptions of Gelar Melayu Serumpun as a cultural tourism attraction in Medan. Gelar Melayu Serumpun is a cultural event that showcases various elements of Malay arts, cuisine, and crafts to introduce and preserve Malay culture in North Sumatra. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and participatory observation, the research analyzes visitors’ experiences and perceptions of the event. A total of 15-20 visitors from diverse backgrounds were selected as research subjects. The results show that the majority of visitors highly appreciate the cultural diversity presented, particularly in terms of Malay cuisine and craft exhibitions, which reflect the heritage of Malay culture. The event was considered successful in providing visitors with a deep understanding of Malay values and history. However, there are areas that need improvement, such as broader promotion outside Medan, which visitors believe would attract more international tourists. Additionally, visitors expressed a desire for more direct interaction with the cultural community, such as workshops or learning sessions on traditional craft-making and cuisine. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the event organizers enhance international promotion and improve facilities such as parking areas and seating. This study provides valuable insights for the development of cultural tourism in Medan and offers recommendations to enhance the quality of existing cultural events, while strengthening Medan's appeal as a competitive cultural tourism destination. Abstract

This study examines the demographic, behavioral, and spatial dimensions of domestic tourist mobility in the Greater Bandung Area, Indonesia. Using a mixed-methods design, data were collected through field-based surveys, direct observation, and participatory group research conducted at multiple tourism destinations, including Farmhouse Lembang, Kawah Putih, Gedung Sate, and Grey Art Gallery. A total of 180 respondents participated in the study. Analytical interpretation combines Leiper's Tourism System framework with concepts from human geography, particularly spatial interaction and the production of tourism space. Findings reveal that domestic tourists are predominantly young (18–25 years), female, unmarried, and either students or early-career workers with limited travel budgets. Their trips are typically short, spontaneous, and driven by recreational, culinary, and aesthetic experiences shaped by social media. Spatial analysis identifies a radial mobility pattern, with Bandung City functioning as both a tourism hub and a transit node connecting peripheral destinations such as Lembang and Ciwidey. The study also highlights the digitally mediated construction of tourism space, where online representations and social interactions create hybrid zones that merge everyday life with tourist consumption. This research contributes to the understanding of urban–regional tourism systems in emerging economies by integrating behavioral insights with spatial analysis. It underscores the need for sustainable transport planning, digital engagement strategies, and equitable development across underutilized peri-urban destinations.

Abstract

Sembalun Lawang Village in East Lombok Regency has great potential to be developed as a community-based ecotourism destination. The region is known for its stunning natural landscape and rich local culture, especially in areas crossed by the 7 Summit Sembalun route, such as Bukit Kondo, Pergasingan, Bukit Anak Dara, and the path to Mount Rinjani. However, until now there has not been an integrated tour package that emphasizes the principle of ecotourism as a whole. This research designs ecotourism-based tour packages that prioritize environmental education and local community empowerment. The method used is a descriptive qualitative-participatory approach with a research and development type of research. Data collection techniques included field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Preliminary findings show that there is high interest from tourists in environmentally friendly trekking activities and the readiness of local communities to be more actively involved in tourism management. The final result of this research is an ecotourism tour package model that is integrated and contextualized with local characteristics. The main conclusion states that the development of this package not only supports environmental conservation, but is also able to increase community participation and welfare in Sembalun Lawang Village.

Abstract

This research aims to design an effective freelance management system for Indonesia’s event industry using qualitative research method of case study with Evoria Event Orchestrator. Evoria has over 900 freelancers and only about 10 percent are activ, indicating inefficiencies when it comes to recruiting, deployment, evaluation and retention of talent. Using the Design Thinking approach, this study integrates Getz’s (2012) Event Lifecycle, Cuskelly’s (2006) Volunteer Management Lifecycle, and Sullivan’s (2014) Employee Lifecycle Model to balance efficiency and empathy. The analysis identified six root causes, short preparation time, reactive culture, manual coordination, skill gaps, person dependent communication, and lack of feedback learning. Three solutions were developed: the Evoria Crew Planner, Evoria Coordination Manual, and Evoria Learning Hub and Freelance Circle, two were tested as prototypes. Findings confirm that structured yet human centered systems improve coordination speed, workload visibility, and freelancer engagement, offering a scalable model for efficience freelance management.
