Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of underpricing in Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2013-2017. This study uses a quantitative method with an exploratory approach, involving 59 companies selected through purposive sampling. The variables studied include Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), Return on Equity (ROE), auditor reputation, fractional holding, company age, company size, and proceeds. Data analysis was carried out through classical assumption tests and multiple linear regression. The results showed that only auditor reputation and fractional holding variables had a significant effect on underpricing. High auditor reputation gives investors confidence, while fractional holding affects information asymmetry between management and investors. Other variables, such as DER, ROE, company age, company size, and proceeds, do not have a significant effect. This study provides insights for issuers and investors to understand the factors that influence stock underpricing, and encourages further research by expanding the variables and study period.

Abstract

Children’s development is a crucial factor in achieving the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045, particularly in fostering globally competitive human resources. One of the main challenges in realizing this vision is the high prevalence of wasting and stunting among children in Indonesia. As of 2023, the stunting prevalence in Indonesia recorded at 21.5%, indicating persistent issues with chronic malnutrition. Additionally, the wasting rate among children increased from 7.7% in 2022 to 8.5% in 2023. This research answers the question of how mother’s education can improving children's development. The research method uses quantitative analysis involving secondary data obtained from 2014 IFLS data. For the first equation, the dependent variable is stunting, measured by the height of children aged 0-5 years. For the second equation, the dependent variable is the weight of children aged 0-5 years. To ensure that the effects observed in the study are due to the independent variables of interest and not influenced by other external factors, we use some control variables, such as direct cash assistance, household income, waste management, number of household members, distance from home to healthcare facilities, area of residence (rural/urban), and ethnicity (Javanese/non-Javanese). The results of the analysis show that the mother’s education have significant and positive impact on height and weight of the children. Apart from that, the control variables of direct cash assistance, household waste management, and place of residence also have a positive effect on children's height as well as children weight. And house hold size have significant and negative relationship to height and weight of the children. This analysis shows the importance of mother’s education. Increasing mother's educational attainment can help increase family access, especially their children, to healthy nutrition, health services, hygiene and education, all of which can contribute to reducing stunting in children. There for, policy steps that support women's empowerment, such as increasing access to education and the economy for women as a mother for now and future need to be prioritized to reduce wasting and stunting of children in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract Social and economic inequality is a global issue that has a significant impact on many aspects of life, including health, education and economic stability. This research aims to review the literature on policies and interventions implemented around the world to address this inequality. The literature review shows that inequality is often caused by unfair economic policies, unequal income distribution, and limited access to fundamental services such as education and health. In addition, neoliberal policies and the effects of globalisation have exacerbated economic inequality between developed and developing countries. Various strategies have been implemented to reduce inequality, such as income redistribution through progressive taxation, social assistance programmes, and improved access to education and health services. The findings of this study emphasise the importance of a multidimensional approach and cross-sectoral cooperation in designing and implementing effective policies to reduce social and economic inequality globally.

Abstract

Green economy is a development concept that integrates economic and environmental aspects to achieve sustainable development. Although it offers important solutions, the implementation of green economy faces various challenges, both in terms of systemic, institutional, and community participation. This paper aims to review the literature related to the challenges and opportunities of implementing a green economy in the context of environmental sustainability. The results show that the main challenges in implementing a green economy include structural constraints in the economic system, institutional weaknesses, and lack of public participation and awareness. On the other hand, the green economy also offers various opportunities, such as the potential for new job creation, encouragement of technological innovation, broader economic benefits, and opportunities for international collaboration. Optimally utilising these opportunities can be an effective solution to address the challenges of sustainable development. The successful implementation of a green economy will be largely determined by the ability of stakeholders to overcome existing challenges and strategically capitalise on available opportunities. Strong integration of economic, social and environmental aspects is key to realising truly sustainable development.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a global trend that provides many conveniences and opportunities for society. However, several studies have shown that these changes can also widen economic and social disparities if not handled properly. This paper aims to review recent research on the potential and challenges of digital technology in dealing with inequality issues. The literature review shows that digital technologies have the ability to increase inclusion and access to resources, but also potentially pose risks of exclusion for vulnerable groups, bias in algorithms, and concentration of power by giant digital companies. Successfully harnessing the benefits of digital transformation to achieve socio-economic justice requires collaboration between the government, private sector and civil society in developing comprehensive policies and regulations. Only with a planned and sustained collective effort can digitalisation become a catalyst for a more just and inclusive society.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of economic and social inequality on people's welfare through a comprehensive literature review. Economic and social inequality is an increasingly prominent issue in many countries and has far-reaching implications for societal stability and development. This study identifies that high inequality contributes to various social problems such as increased crime, declining public health, and limited access to education and economic opportunities. In addition, inequality weakens social cohesion and trust among community members, which can impact political stability and the effectiveness of public policies. To address these negative impacts, this study suggests the need for fairer redistributive policies, as well as improved access to fundamental services such as education and health, to improve individual well-being and achieve more inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created both hope and concern about the future. On the one hand, AI has the potential to increase productivity, efficiency, and innovation in various sectors. On the other hand, AI-induced automation can also threaten the existence of human jobs, especially for routine and structured jobs. This article presents a literature review on the potentials and challenges of a future with AI. The literature review shows that to optimise the potential of AI, a comprehensive and proactive strategy is required. These include investments in education and training for new skills, policies that support workforce transition, strong regulatory frameworks to maintain security and privacy, and efforts to address bias and discrimination in AI systems. Close collaboration between humans and machines is also essential to maximise the added value that can be generated. With the right approach, the potential of AI can be harnessed to advance human well-being and provide solutions to global challenges. However, awareness and collective action from various stakeholders are needed for a fair and sustainable future transformation with AI.
