Methods: Quantitative research design using a cross-sectional approach. Samples were taken using stratified random sampling technique, namely 99 students of class XI at SMAN 1 Godean. Retrieval of data using google form, namely in July 2020. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The results of the study were analyzed by univariate, bivariate using Somer’s test, and logistic regression for multivariate analysis. Results: In the characterictics of the respondents, most of the female students were at the age of 17 years with a total of 62 students (62.6%), most of the menstrual habits in the routine category were 87 students (87,9%). There were association between sleep quality, stress level with premenstrual syndrome with each value of p=0.001 (OR=7.043; 95%CI=1.542-32.164) and p=0.002 (OR=1.025; 95%CI=0.296-3.554). There was no association between BMI, menstrual cycle, and menarche with the incidence of premenstrual syndrome with p=0.785, p=0.969, p=0.768, respectively. Abstract

Background: Appendectomy is a surgical procedure to treat appendicitis, but postoperative pain is a common complication. If left unmanaged, pain can affect sleep, delay healing, increase sympathetic activity, and cause emotional distress. Non-pharmacological methods such as deep breathing relaxation are safe and effective options to manage this pain. Deep breath relaxation techniques have been shown to effectively reduce pain intensity by relaxing muscle spasm, which is caused by an increase in prostaglandins, leading to vasodilation and increased blood flow to areas of spasm and ischemia. In addition, this technique can stimulate the release of endogenous opioids, such as enkephalins and endorphins. Enkephalins function as neurotransmitters that regulate pain, emotions and stress, while endorphins provide a sense of relaxation, comfort and calmness to the body. According to WHO (World Health Organization) in 2022, the number of deaths due to appendicitis reached 21,000 clients with the number of male sufferers being higher than female. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of deep breathing relaxation techniques in reducing acute pain in post-appendectomy patients. Methods: This was a qualitative case study involving two postoperative patients. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and pain scale assessments using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), before and after applying deep breathing techniques for 3 days (twice daily for 10–15 minutes). Results: Both patients showed a decrease in pain levels, with improved indicators such as reduced grimacing, restlessness, and normalized vital signs. Conclusion: Deep breathing relaxation techniques are effective in lowering acute pain levels in appendectomy patients and can be used as supportive nursing care alongside pharmacological treatment.

Abstract

Background : Users of internet worldwide experience an increase which might be psychologically disruptive, especially for students who are the largest internet users. Some students state that loneliness was the cause, and individuals experiencing the loneliness would divert their attention to playing with their phones. This was true for nursing students (undergraduate) at Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani Yogyakarta, who only have seven semesters, which makes their schedules busier and they only have little time to build social relation with friends resulting in loneliness. Objective : This research aims to reveal the correlation between level of loneliness and the duration of social media use on nursing students at Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani Yogyakarta. Methods : This research applied non-experimental quantitative method, and implemented cross sectional approach. The sample technique used was proportionate stratified random sampling technique involving 77 students in accordance with the inclusive and exclusive criteria. The method of data collection used UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 questionnaire and the duration of social media use. Both questionnaires had previously undergone validity and reliability testing by earlier researchers, and the results showed that the questionnaires were appropriate for use in the study. The data collection for this study was carried out from May 27 to June 5,2025. Moreover, the data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with Gamma test. Result : The majority of the students experienced moderate loneliness were 72 students (93,5%) with the duration of (≥7 hours) of 30 students (39%). The correlation results were r=0,667 and p-value 0,038. Conclusion : The institution is expected to provide psychological guidance or counseling services that are easily accessible to students to help them manage loneliness.
