Abstract

The similarity of early symptoms between Dengue Fever and Typhoid Fever in adolescents often leads to dangerous delays in medical treatment. This health promotion activity aimed to improve the knowledge of grade VII A students at SMPN 11 Samarinda regarding early detection and preventive measures for both diseases. The educational method involved interactive lectures using PowerPoint presentation and leaflet distribution to 29 participants. The level of understanding was evaluated by comparing pre-test and post-test scores. The results showed a highly positive response, demonstrated by a significant increase in the students' average knowledge score from 83.8% in the pre-test to 89.3% in the post-test. In conclusion, this health education intervention is effective in equipping students to recognize specific symptoms, warning signs, and early preventive actions against infectious diseases within the school environment

Abstract

The practice of self-medication among adolescents continues to increase along with the transparency of information. However, a lack of understanding regarding proper medication management procedures risks triggering health problems and environmental pollution. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge, awareness, and skills of SMK 1 Muhammadiyah Samarinda students in managing medications wisely through the DAGUSIBU (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose) program. This activity was carried out on May 18, 2026, involving 44 11th grade students using the Service Learning method. Evaluation of the program's success was measured using pre-test and post-test questionnaire instruments and supported by the use of educational media in the form of leaflets. The results of the initial measurement (pre-test) showed an average percentage of correct answers of 75.23%, indicating a basic understanding but still some misconceptions. After the interactive education, the post-test results showed a significant increase in understanding, with the average percentage of correct answers increasing to 94.32%. This health promotion activity was deemed highly effective in increasing understanding and health literacy related to proper medication management among students

Abstract

Joint pain is the most prevalent chronic health problem among the elderly and directly compromises quality of life. Low public knowledge of joint disease risk factors, prevention strategies, and self-management remains a critical barrier in primary healthcare settings. This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of an interactive health promotion session in improving elderly participants' knowledge of joint health. The activity was conducted on May 26, 2026 at Puskesmas Karang Asam, Samarinda, involving 25 participants. A pre-test and post-test design without a control group was applied. Educational media included PowerPoint presentations and informational leaflets. Knowledge was assessed using a 10-item true-or-false questionnaire. Results showed an increase in correct responses from 48% at pre-test to 79% at post-test, representing a 31-percentage-point gain. Based on Arikunto's (2006) classification, the post-test score falls within the "good" category (>75%). A single interactive health promotion session proved effective in raising elderly knowledge about joint health. Integration of physical practice such as joint exercise into future sessions is recommended to strengthen knowledge retention and support long-term behavioral change

Abstract

Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) are one of the important problems in hospitals that can increase the number of illnesses, length of hospitalization, and health service costs. One of the groups that has the risk of being exposed to the source of infection in the hospital is cleaning service (CS) officers, especially when handling infectious liquid spills. The use of spill kits is one of the infection prevention and control efforts that is important for CS officers to understand. This community service activity aims to increase CS officers' knowledge of the use of spill kits through counseling methods. The activity was carried out at Puskesmas X with pre-test, counseling, demonstration of the use of spill kits, and post-tests. The participants of the activity amounted to 4 CS officers. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge after being given counseling. The average pre-test score of 53 increased to 91 in the post-test. This activity shows that counseling is effective in increasing the knowledge of CS officers on the use of spill kits in Puskesmas.

Abstract

Background: The increasing older adult population in Indonesia has been accompanied by a higher prevalence of health problems affecting independence. One common issue is inadequate self-care practices, particularly in maintaining skin health, personal hygiene, and daily living activities. Poor self-care may increase the risk of health problems, reduce quality of life, and accelerate dependency. Community-based elderly schools provide an appropriate setting to improve knowledge and practical skills through continuous health education. Objective: This community service program aimed to improve older adults' knowledge and self-care skills to enhance independence among participants of the Indonesia Ramah Lansia Elderly School, West Java. Methods: The program employed a participatory health promotion approach through interactive lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, and practical self-care sessions. Educational materials covered self-care concepts, skin health maintenance, appropriate moisturizer use, and simple daily skin care practices. Knowledge was evaluated using pre-test and post-test questionnaires, while practical skills were assessed through direct observation. Results: Participants actively engaged in all educational activities and successfully demonstrated the recommended self-care practices. The program improved participants' knowledge and practical skills related to skin care, moisturizer application, and xerosis prevention. Participants also showed greater motivation to independently perform self-care activities in their daily lives. Conclusion: Community-based self-care education is an effective health promotion strategy to improve knowledge, practical skills, and independence among older adults. Sustainable educational programs through elderly schools are recommended to support healthy ageing and improve quality of life.

Abstract

Background: Population ageing has increased the prevalence of cognitive decline among older adults. Cognitive impairment affects memory, thinking, communication, decision-making, and independence in daily activities. Limited knowledge regarding brain health highlights the need for community-based health education. Elderly schools provide an appropriate setting to promote healthy ageing through continuous learning and empowerment. Objective: This community service program aimed to improve older adults' knowledge and awareness regarding cognitive health among participants of the Indonesia Ramah Lansia Elderly School, West Java. Methods: The program applied a participatory health promotion approach through interactive lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, cognitive stimulation demonstrations, and educational games. Educational materials included cognitive function, risk factors for cognitive decline, early signs of cognitive impairment, and strategies to maintain brain health through physical activity, mental stimulation, balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, and social engagement. Results: Participants actively engaged in all educational activities and demonstrated improved understanding of cognitive health. They were able to identify practical activities to maintain brain function and expressed greater awareness of adopting healthy lifestyles to support cognitive wellbeing. Conclusion: Cognitive health education is an effective health promotion strategy to improve older adults' knowledge and awareness regarding cognitive function. Sustainable educational programs through elderly schools are recommended to support healthy ageing and maintain independence among older adults
