Abstract

Stunting conditions in toddlers affect physical performance and mental and intellectual functions to be disrupted. One of the efforts to avoid developmental delays in stunted toddlers requires an active role by the toddler's mother in providing stimulation. This study aimed to analyze the differences in toddlers' fine motor development before and after stimulation using activity book media. This study used a one-group pretest-postest design. The population in the study were toddlers who had been diagnosed with stunting in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan, totaling 374 toddlers. Samples were taken using a cluster sampling technique in the Working Area of Puskesmas Tebas and Puskesmas Sekura, a total of 60 toddlers aged 24-36 months diagnosed with stunting. The research instrument was an "activity book" with 12 exercises. Hypothesis testing using the Wilcoxon Test after obtaining an abnormal data distribution in the data normality test. The findings of this study received the results p-value (0.000) <0.05. There were differences in the fine motor skills of stunted toddlers before and after being given stimulation using activity books.

Abstract

Social media is a widely utilized and essential aspect of daily life, particularly for teens. Adolescents in today's digital age are growing up in a culture where social media platforms are prevalent and substantially influence various parts of their lives. The amount of social media usage in Indonesia is steadily growing annually. This article examines the negative and positive effects of social media on the mental wellbeing of young people. Several articles have suggested that excessive usage of social media among adolescents can result in sleeplessness, anxiety, and depression. On the other hand, social media can positively affect health and improve relationships. This article highlights the significance of using social media prudently and ethically while effectively managing one's emotions, which can increase benefits. Therefore, minimizing might lead to negative consequences, particularly about adolescents' psychological wellbeing and societal support.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which most often attacks various organs, especially the lungs. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge and TB patients' attitudes toward compliance with tuberculosis drugs at the Helvetia Medan Health Center. This type of research used an analytical observational method with the cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was quota sampling, with 75 respondents. Data collection in this study used to form sheets in questionnaires given to respondents directly and data analysis using the chi-square test. The results showed that respondents with good knowledge were 29 respondents (38.7%), good enough 33 respondents (44%), not good enough 12 respondents (16%), and not good one respondent (1.3%). A good attitude was 23 respondents (30.7%), good enough 37 respondents (49.3%), not good enough 14 respondents (18.7%), and not good one respondent (1.3%). Obedient compliance to TB medication was 25 respondents (33.3%), quite obedient 33 respondents (44%), and less obedient 17 respondents (22.7%).  This study concluded that knowledge and attitude had a significant relationship with adherence to tuberculosis medication, with a knowledge p-value of 0.003 <0.05 and an attitude p-value of 0.037 <0.05. Healthcare professionals must employ innovative strategies to enhance knowledge and attitudes, raise public awareness, and ensure full compliance with the TB treatment program. It is crucial to implement this measure to mitigate the future prevalence of antibiotic resistance in treating tuberculosis.

Abstract

Spiritual care, a vital component of holistic nursing, is often overlooked in intensive care units (ICUs) because of the limited knowledge, motivation, and competency of healthcare providers. This study investigated ICU nurses' knowledge, motivation, and skill in providing spiritual care. This cross-sectional study included 38 ICU nurses. A systematic questionnaire was used to evaluate nurses' knowledge, motivation, and competency in spiritual care. The relationships between these parameters were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses. The findings indicated that ICU nurses moderately understood spiritual care (M = 7.2, SD = 1.9) and exhibited strong motivation (M = 4.0, SD = 0.8). Skills in spiritual care were positively correlated with knowledge (r = 0.41, p < 0.05) and motivation (r = 0.52, p < 0.01). Previous spiritual care training markedly enhanced nurses' competencies (p < 0.05) and served as a significant predictor (β = 0.28, p < 0.05). This study underscores the critical role of knowledge, motivation, and competency in enhancing spiritual care among ICU nurses. Targeted interventions such as educational programs and institutional support are essential for improving spiritual care practices. Future research should focus on developing comprehensive training models to address the individual and systemic barriers to spiritual care integration in critical care environments.

Abstract

A child's cancer diagnosis causes a family to experience a tremendous deal of uncertainty. Fearing what lies ahead, parents and siblings frequently worry about how therapy will impact their child's and their family's lives. Siblings and parents might feel a variety of emotions, including guilt, rage, despair, and melancholy. Siblings of ill children deal with their own psychological and emotional difficulties. The circumstances they find themselves in may cause them to feel scared, nervous, or even furious. This study aimed to describe the support provided by parents and siblings to children with cancer in West Sumatra. This research utilized a cross-sectional design and was carried out from November 2023 to March 2024 at the Childhood Cancer Care West Sumatra. The study involved 55 children, chosen using an accidental sampling method. The TEIQUE-CF instrument was employed in this research, with descriptive analysis being conducted. Approximal, 61.8% of parents and siblings are emotional about paediatric cancer. By discussing these factors, families may better prepare mentally and emotionally for this protracted and difficult journey. Children with cancer have a greater chance of making a full recovery, both mentally and physically, if they get strong support from their parents and siblings.

Abstract

The consumption of detrimental products, such as cigarettes, has a significant impact on health financing. Smoking is a detrimental practice that has negative effects on health, and the medical expenses linked to smoking-related ailments are considerable. In response, many countries have established cigarette excise laws with the aim of mitigating the adverse effects of smoking on public health and health financing. The implementation of cigarette excise taxes has resulted in a notable reduction in cigarette consumption, an increase in government revenue, and the funding of health programmes. This study aimed to enhance the understanding of the role of tobacco excise laws in promoting sustainable health financing. This study involved the review of 8 papers, and it was conducted following the guidelines of PRISMA-P, 2015 for systematic reviews. A comprehensive literature search was conducted utilizing multiple databases, including PubMed, EBSCO, and ScienceDirect. The tobacco excise management policy has generally aligned with its intended objectives. However, certain aspects, such as reducing consumption, allocation amounts, tariff patterns, and burdens, have yet to be fully effective. Therefore, it is necessary to implement strategic measures to enhance adequacy, such as increasing the pattern of excise tariffs and allocations and ensuring accountability and transparency in implementation.

Abstract

Body image disturbances are a common psychological challenge among patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM), influenced by the physical and emotional toll of the disease. Body dissatisfaction can negatively impact self-esteem, adherence to diabetes management, and overall quality of life. Positive affirmations, rooted in self-affirmation theory, have improved body image in various populations. However, there is limited research on the application of positive affirmations as an intervention for body image in DM patients. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a structured, positive affirmation intervention in improving body image among patients with Diabetes Mellitus using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The study involved 40 adult DM patients participating in a 4-week positive affirmation program. Body image outcomes were measured pre-and post-intervention using the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire – Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS). The primary outcomes were changes in appearance evaluation, appearance orientation, body area satisfaction, and self-classified weight. Paired sample t-tests were used to analyze pre- and post-intervention differences, with effect sizes calculated using Cohen's d. Significant improvements were observed in appearance evaluation (p < 0.001, d = 0.91), body area satisfaction (p < 0.001, d = 0.80), and self-classified weight (p < 0.01, d = 0.76). Appearance orientation decreased significantly (p < 0.01, d = 0.66), indicating a reduced focus on external appearance. The intervention showed firm effect sizes across all body image dimensions. Positive affirmations effectively improved body image among DM patients, with significant improvements across multiple dimensions. This intervention offers a practical, low-cost strategy for addressing body image disturbances, potentially enhancing the psychological and physical wellbeing of DM patients. Future studies should explore long-term effects and compare the intervention with other psychosocial approaches in diverse populations.

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects social communication and behavior, requiring specialized approaches for health education. Parental involvement and the type of learning media play a significant role in health education outcomes for children with ASD. This study examines the relationship between parental involvement, learning media (digital vs. traditional), and health education outcomes for children with ASD. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 83 parents of children diagnosed with ASD. Data were collected through structured questionnaires assessing parental involvement and the type of learning media used. Bivariate analysis was performed to examine associations between these variables. Most parents (78.3%) were female, and 55.4% used digital learning media. Children with high parental involvement had significantly higher self-care scores (mean = 7.6, p< 0.01) compared to those with lower involvement (mean = 6.3). Digital media was more effective than traditional media, with children using digital tools showing a 30% increase in health knowledge (p= 0.02). The combination of high parental involvement and digital media use produced the best educational outcomes (mean = 8.1, p = 0.001). High parental involvement and the use of digital learning media are positively associated with better health education outcomes in children with ASD. Interventions targeting increased parental engagement and enhanced access to digital learning media could improve health education for children with ASD.

Abstract

Nutritional status in toddlers is a critical indicator of overall well-being and long-term health outcomes. Malnutrition among children is persistent and continues to be an alarming burden, often linked to socioeconomic factors in Papua. This study aims to analyze the relationship between socioeconomics and the nutritional health of toddlers. This cross-sectional study involved 300 toddlers aged 1–5 years from working areas at the Primary Health Center (PHC) Remu, Sorong City, Papua. We collected data by conducting structured interviews with the mothers and measuring the anthropometric traits of the toddlers. Socioeconomics was assessed through family income, maternal education, and access to healthcare. We measured nutritional status using WHO standards for weight-for-age (underweight), height-for-age (stunting), and weight-for-height (wasting). We implemented the Pearson and Spearman correlation tests for data analysis. The results indicated family income (p < 0.05), maternal education (p < 0.05), and access to healthcare (p < 0.05) were significantly correlated with nutritional status. This study highlights the significant influence of socioeconomic status on the nutritional status of toddlers in Papua. Toddlers from families with higher income, better maternal education, and enhanced accessibility to healthcare had better nutritional outcomes, with lower rates of stunting, wasting, and underweight. These findings suggest the need for targeted interventions aimed at improving socioeconomic conditions and enhancing access to nutritional and healthcare services in Papua, particularly in rural and remote areas, to reduce malnutrition and promote better health outcomes for children.

Abstract

The issue of adolescent smoking represents a significant challenge to global public health, contributing markedly to the burden of disease and mortality on a global scale. Despite the implementation of numerous strategies to reduce tobacco consumption, the prevalence of smoking among adolescents remains a significant concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The use of tobacco during adolescence not only increases the risk of developing chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer but also presents challenges to smoking cessation due to the addictive properties of nicotine and the sociocultural factors influencing youth behavior. This paper is expected to offer valuable insights into the potential of technology-based solutions to support smoking cessation among adolescents, contributing to broader efforts to reduce tobacco-related morbidity and mortality on a global scale.
