Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to find the optimal portfolio of Hajj fund management by the Islamic banks in Indonesia. BPKH, as an authority, can place the Hajj fund on Islamic bank deposits. However, Islamic banks limited the expected returns and risks set by BPKH so that the appropriate strategy is required to establish the optimal of portfolio. Islamic banks face a trade-off because of the increased level of risk constrains the intention to get higher returns. This study uses a mean-variance portfolio optimization theory to construct such an optimal portfolio. Finally, this study recommends Murabaha financing and SBIS to Islamic banks as the optimal portfolio selection. The combination of an efficient portfolio that has formed cannot be fully employed because the expectation limits them. However, Islamic banks can still select the optimal portfolio combination according to their risk preferences.JEL Classification: G11, G18

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of service quality and tax sanctions on service satisfaction and its implementation on compliance to pay personal vehicle tax. This study uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) as tools of analysis. The result shows that service quality affects service satisfaction, and it implies compliance with the personal vehicle tax payable compliance. Besides that, the tax sanctions affect service satisfaction, and it implies compliance with paying personal vehicle tax. Tax sanctions are a prevention tool for violations committed by taxpayers, If Service Satisfaction fails to meet expectations, and taxpayers will feel dissatisfied. Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze customer perceptions of the banking sector after the advent of the Islamic banking system. This research uses structural equation modeling as its analysis tool. The results of the analysis illustrate that the range of customer service and the length of the bank-customer relationship has a positive impact on customer preferences in choosing Islamic banking. This study provides a framework not only for the banking sector but also for other organizations. This study is an effort so that each organizational policy is appropriate to get customer preferences and optimal results in the form of satisfied and loyal customers.JEL Classification: G21, G29

Abstract

The subsidized electricity tariff enjoyed by households in Indonesia with an installed capacity of 450 VA and 900 VA has not changed since mid-2003. This subsidy creates an increasing economic burden on the state budget. This study examines the impact of a subsidized electricity tariff increase on subsidized household welfare and the redistribution of subsidy allocation. The analysis divided into two stages: first, estimating household electricity demand for each household group when prices fixed; and second, measuring changes in welfare, inefficiency and the redistribution of subsidy allocations. This empirical study shows that an increase in tariffs causes the welfare of subsidized households to decline. It also demonstrates inefficiency in the allocation of subsidies to the top 20% group with an installed capacity of 450 VA. Besides, subsidized households in the lowest 40% group, which initially only enjoyed 26.26% increased to 34.16% after the tariff increase. On the other hand, the top 20% group, which initially enjoyed the electricity subsidy allocation of 28.74%, decreased to 20.40% after the tariff increase.JEL Classification: D1, D3, D6, I3

Abstract

Islamic banking still has a high ratio of non-performing financing. This study analyzes the causes of non-performing financing, along with the prevention effectiveness and resolution strategies performed by Islamic banks in dealing with this problem. Interviews conducted on nine informants, with questionnaires distributed to 30 respondents. The results show that the prevention effectiveness performed by Islamic banks consists of legal aspects, qualified human resources, and criteria assessment used to finance proposals, and improve risk management. Furthermore, internal factors such as default, information asymmetry, and financial stress were attributes of non-performing financing, which is externally influenced by inflation, GDP decline, natural disasters, interest rates, and political criminality.JEL Classification: G21, G32

Abstract

The relationship between corporate diversification and corporate social performance (CSP) is under-investigated, especially in emerging countries. This study examines the relationship between corporate diversification and CSP in Indonesia setting. Occurrence disclosure analysis has been applied to measure CSP based on 80 indicators of the Global Report Initiative (GRI). This study used multiple regressions with one-year lag dependent variables as the data analysis. The results show that the related diversification is negatively and significantly related to CSP, while, the unrelated diversification reveals a positive relationship with CSP. Besides that, unrelated diversification more correlated to CSP rather than related diversification. Furthermore, international diversification has a positive and significant relationship with CSP. Therefore, this study found that corporate diversification is a significant antecedent of CSP.JEL Classification: L25, M14

Abstract

Triple helix model is a model of a knowledge-based economy, which collaborates with the university, business, and government sectors to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) boost their business. The issue is the three actors have not yet synergized optimally in the development of SMEs. Hence, this study was to identify the critical success factors of the triple helix model for SMEs. This study employed a meta-ethnography and factor analysis to obtain components and indicators of the success factors. The result showed that 37 items of critical success factors have good content validity and excellent homogeneity reliability. Based on these success factors, a triple helix model consisting of six stages has developed. It indicates that these critical success factors make an essential contribution to the development and success of SMEs to achieve the goal of the program.JEL Classification: L52, L53
