Abstract

English is a global language that dominates various aspects of life, including science, information technology, education, politics, economics, and culture. However, many students in Indonesia, from elementary school to college, struggle with English proficiency despite years of study. This issue stems from a lack of practical application in learning English, where the language is often treated as a theoretical subject rather than a practical skill. This study aims to identify solutions to these challenges in English language learning through a literature review of relevant sources, including e-journals, e-books, articles, and academic journals. The findings suggest that effective English learning should emphasize practice and active engagement, particularly through trial and error, to help students build confidence and improve their skills. Key solutions include encouraging students to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing regularly, and integrating English into daily activities, such as listening to English songs or reading English books. Confidence-building is identified as crucial for improving English language skills.

Abstract

This research focuses on the role of code-switching in bilingual education, examining the cognitive and social implications of the practice. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, this research analyzes how code-switching affects students' comprehension and social interaction in the bilingual classroom. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis in several bilingual schools. The results show that code-switching plays an important role in helping students understand complex material and in strengthening their social identity. Cognitively, code-switching allows students to utilize their first language to understand difficult concepts, while socially, the practice reinforces inclusivity and positive dynamics in the classroom. The implications of the findings confirm that code-switching is an effective pedagogical strategy and not simply a communication tool. The recommendations of this study encourage educators and policy makers to integrate code-switching as an integral part of teaching strategies in bilingual education, to support more inclusive and effective learning.

Abstract

English language learning in Indonesian schools is a crucial element in preparing students to face globalization and competition in the job market. This study explores the impact of English language learning on cognitive development, educational opportunities, and career prospects. Using a library research method, various literatures from SINTA, WoS and Scopus indexed journals were analyzed to identify the benefits and challenges associated with English language teaching. Findings indicate that English proficiency enhances critical thinking skills, analytical abilities, and provides a competitive edge in the global job market. Despite policies such as the 2013 Curriculum improving English competencies, there are still disparities in teaching quality and resources. Challenges include limited access in rural areas and the need for more interactive pedagogical approaches. This study emphasizes the importance of sustained support from government, schools, and communities, as well as the utilization of educational technology to overcome these barriers. The conclusion of this study is that by improving English proficiency among students, Indonesia can enhance its global competitiveness and better prepare its youth for the era of globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of digital platforms in enhancing public speaking skills among university students. With the rapid development of technology and the rise of online learning, digital platforms have become a primary alternative for improving public speaking abilities. Through a survey conducted with 50 students from various faculties, this research found that the majority of respondents experienced significant improvements in confidence and speaking skills after using digital platforms such as Zoom, YouTube, and Google Meet. However, some challenges were faced by a small portion of respondents, such as limited internet access and the lack of direct interaction with instructors. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of digital-based curricula in higher education and provide guidance for students in choosing the right platforms for training public speaking skills.
