Abstract

Because they allow for the use of the scientific method in performing inquiries and are anticipated to be able to pick up new information, science process skills are crucial for pupils. This study's goal was to explain how well students could apply their knowledge of marine environmental physics to static fluid content for class XI SMA Negeri 2 Dumai. This kind of study uses a non-equivalent posttest only control group design in a quasi experimental setting. All 288 students in class XI at SMA Negeri 2 Dumai were included in the population. To identify the populace, a simple random sampling technique is employed. The experimental group's posttest mean score for scientific process skills (M = 61.80, SD=11.92) is greater than the control group's posttest mean score for those same skills (M = 50.35, SD=13.63). According to the findings, classes using marine contextual learning have better pupil scientific process skills than classes using traditional learning. When viewed from a gender viewpoint, there is no clear variation between the science process skills of male and female students.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is a part of 21st-century skills that must have by students in order to use their knowledge properly. This research is motivated by the current state of education which is intensively developing scientific literacy skills in the school. This is caused by science and technology development, so students are required to be able to adapt to technology, science, environment, and society. This research aimed to reveal MAN 1 Dumai students’ ability based on scientific literacy in the maritime context. The survey method used in this study with 164 samples. The scientific literacy of the students was measured by using a scientific literacy test referring to the PISA 2015 scientific literacy competence aspects. The results of descriptive analysis show that the scientific literacy of MAN 1 Dumai student’s is in the sufficient category with an average score 60.27. Scientific literacy in the competence to explain scientific phenomena is in the sufficient category with an average 61.51, while in evaluating and designing scientific inquiry is in the sufficient category with an average 56.95. Meanwhile, interpreting data and evidence scientifically is in the sufficient category with an average 60.71. Then based on the inferential test, there is no significant difference between male and female students about the level of scientific literacy.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe an increase in students' interest in learning and scientific attitudes through the application of the flipped classroom blog on work and energy material in class X SMAN 5 Pekanbaru. This type of research used quasi-experimental, where the experimental class implemented the flipped classroom blog, while the control class used conventional learning. This research uses an instrument in the form of a questionnaire of interest in learning and students' scientific attitudes. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially to see an increase in students' learning interests and scientific attitudes. The results of the research obtained an average score of learning interest in classes using the flipped classroom blog in learning of 3.02 in the moderate category with a gain of 0.4 while for scientific attitude after implementing the flipped classroom blog, it was 3.04 in the medium category with a gain of 0.3. Thus, both the interest in learning and the scientific attitude of the experimental class students got better results than the control class. Based on the hypothesis testing carried out, there was a significant increase in students' interest and scientific attitude in learning the material of work and energy. Therefore, the use of the flipped classroom blog can increase students' interest and scientific attitude in learning physics on work and energy material at SMAN 5 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' scientific literacy skills by using the Project-based learning (PjBL) learning model integrated with the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) approach in class XI MS 3 students at SMAN Plus, Riau Province. The research used the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method with a total of 29 students, which was carried out in two cycles, with each PTK cycle consisting of five steps, namely: 1) localizing the problem, 2) planning, 3) action and observation, 4) analyzing data, and 5) reflection. The scientific literacy studied includes 3 competencies, namely explaining phenomena, interpreting, evaluating, and designing scientific investigations. The results of the analysis of students' scientific literacy abilities from the comparison of cycle I and cycle II showed an increase in scientific literacy scores, namely from 64.3 to 72.1. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the application of the PjBL-STEM learning model is effective in improving students' scientific literacy skills in learning Physics, especially in class XI MS 3 SMA Plus Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the increase in students' interest in learning science by studying the concept of material classification and its changes, through mobile learning learning media. The research method uses a pretest-posttest control group design with quantitative data types. Data on students' learning interests was collected through distributing learning interest questionnaires before and after learning using mobile learning media. The research instrument was prepared based on ARCS learning interest aspects (attention, relevance, self confidence, and satisfaction). Data were analyzed descriptively using a Likert scale and inferentially using the Independent Sample T-Test. The results of the research showed that students' interest in learning had increased in the experimental class with a good category of 83% and a very good 17%. Inferentially, a significant increase in interest in learning was obtained. These results provide the conclusion that the application of mobile learning media has a positive impact on increasing student interest in learning better in learning material classification and its changes in class VII Junior High School.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' cognitive learning outcomes by using a contextual approach oriented towards traditional kelong fishing gear. This research method uses a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent post-test only group design. The population in this study was class VIII students, totaling 79 people. The population came from three classes, of which 2 classes were then selected for the research sample, namely class VIII-1 as the experimental group and class VIII-2 as the control group. The research was carried out in four meetings. After learning is complete, students are given a posttest in the form of a cognitive learning outcomes test instrument with 25 multiplechoice questions. The average score data on student learning outcomes shows differences between the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class obtained an average score of 72.90 in the good category, while the control class obtained an average score of 59.37 in the quite good category. Then, based on the independent sample T-Test, the significance results were 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, learning with a contextual approach oriented towards traditional kelong fishing gear is effectively used to improve cognitive science learning outcomes for students at SMPN 1 Lingga Utara.

Abstract

This research aims to describe high school students' curiosity about the topic of global warming. The type of research used is quasi-experimental. The research sample consisted of 35 students from group X-2 as the experimental group and 36 students from group X-3 as the control group. The instrument used in this research was a student curiosity questionnaire with 25 statement items which were divided into several indicators, namely the desire to learn something, a strong attitude to know something, and interest in new things. The descriptive analysis pointed out that our results show the average value of curiosity in the experimental group (0.82) is in the very good category compared to the control group (0.74) in the good category. The difference is significant according to inferential analysis, obtaining a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The conclusion obtained is that the use of the SOLE model can increase students' curiosity better in learning physics on global warming material at SMA Negeri 1 Kandis.
