Abstract

Used cooking oil, which is leftover cooking oil, can be reprocessed into goods or preparations that have added value, one of which is by processing it into solid soap. In soap preparations, additional ingredients are often added, such as aloe vera, because of its antibacterial activity and its properties that can moisturize and soften the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the formula and physical properties of transparent solid soap, a combination of used cooking oil and coconut oil, with the addition of aloe vera. The study used an experimental method. The soap was made in 6 formulas with variations in used cooking oil: coconut oil (gram) F1 = 0:29; F2 = 29:0; F3 = 6:23; F4 = 12:17; F5 = 17:12; F6 = 23:6. The soap was tested for organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, water content, foam height, free alkali, and unsaponifiable fat. A homogeneous soap preparation was obtained, F1 is yellow, F3, F4, and F5 are orange, and F2 is brownish orange in color, lavender-smelling, and solid in form. pH is following the range of SNI 3532:2016, which is 9 - 11, except for formulas 2 and 4. The height of the foam after being shaken is in the range of 5.2 ± 0.83 - 7.2 ± 0.29, and after being left for 5 minutes, there is a decrease. All formulas meet the requirements for good water content for solid soap preparations, which is less than 15%. The results of the free alkali and free unsaponifiable fat tests show that all formulas have not met the required parameters.

Abstract

Topical anti-inflammatory treatment can be administered by formulating Palmarosa essential oil into an emulgel dosage form at concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6%, which is then tested on rats. In topical preparations, storage conditions greatly affect stability; therefore, stability testing is necessary to determine whether the preparation remains suitable for use. This study aims to evaluate the stability of emulgel formulations containing Palmarosa essential oil. The essential oil was formulated into emulgel preparations at concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6%. Each of the three formulations underwent physical stability tests, including organoleptic evaluation, spreadability, adhesiveness, pH, and viscosity tests, using the cycling test method for 6 cycles. Based on statistical analysis, all emulgel formulations of Palmarosa essential oil demonstrated good physical stability after the cycling test. Changes in pH, adhesiveness, and spreadability parameters were not statistically significant. Formula 3 was considered the most stable formulation, as changes across all parameters were statistically insignificant and it maintained the most consistent physical characteristics after stability testing.

Abstract

Abstract

Strawberry leaves contain flavonoid, tannin, and saponin compounds that have the potential as ultra protection sunscreen with an SPF value of 52.90. Therefore, strawberry leaves have the potential to be used as active ingredients in sunscreen in the manufacture of lotion formulations. This study aims to determine the formulation and physical evaluation and the effect of variations in emulsifier concentration on the physical properties of strawberry leaf extract lotion preparations (Fragaria x ananassa var duchesne). The manufacture of strawberry leaf extract uses the maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent with a ratio of simplicia and solvent of 1:10. Lotion is made by varying the concentration of triethanolamine and stearic acid F1 (2%: 10%), F2 (3%: 11%), and F3 (4%: 12.5%). The physical evaluation carried out includes organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, lotion type and hedonic. The results of the homogeneity and homogeneity tests of the three formulas showed that homogeneous preparations had the same color, odor, and texture. All lotion test results have met the requirements with pH in the range of 5.30±0.03 - 5.44±0.04; spreadability 5.28±0.098 - 6.35±0.360 cm; adhesion 6.23±0.394 - 10.29±0.443 seconds; viscosity 3914.1±0.91 - 3914.8±0.50 cps. Variations in the concentration of stearic acid and triethanolamine significantly affect the pH test, spreadability, adhesion and do not significantly affect the viscosity test.

Abstract

Butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea L.) is a leguminous plant known for its pharmacological benefits. The selection of an appropriate extraction method is crucial, as it determines the amount of secondary metabolites that can be effectively extracted. This study aims to evaluate the effect of different extraction methods on the total flavonoid and phenolic content of butterfly pea flower extract (EBT). Five extraction methods were used: maceration, percolation, digestion, reflux, and Soxhlet extraction, using 96% ethanol as the solvent. Extract evaluations included tests for drying loss, ash content, ethanol-soluble extract content, and heavy metal contamination. Phytochemical screening revealed that extracts from all methods contained similar secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, phenolics, tannins, saponins, and essential oils. The highest total flavonoid content was found in the extract obtained by the reflux method (109.13 mg QE/g extract), while the highest phenolic content was observed in the extract obtained by the digestion method (13.87 mg GAE/g extract).
