Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of school committees in community empowerment in Banjarmasin City. School committees are independent bodies established to facilitate community involvement in improving the quality of education services. In the context of community empowerment, school committees act as strategic partners in decision-making, supervision, and support for the implementation of education in schools. This research employs a qualitative approach with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that school committees in several schools in Banjarmasin have made positive contributions in encouraging community participation, particularly in the form of moral, material, and idea-based support for educational programs. However, their role still faces several challenges, such as limited understanding of their duties and functions, as well as inadequate human resource capacity. Therefore, strengthening the capacity and role of school committees through training, outreach, and supportive regulations is necessary to optimize their contribution to community empowerment

Abstract

Non-formal education programs serve as a strategic effort to improve the quality of human resources, particularly for communities with limited access to formal education. This article discusses the empowerment of the Pelambuan Subdistrict community through a life skills-based sewing program provided to Package C students at PKBM Warrahmah. The program aims to equip participants with practical skills that can directly enhance their economic independence. The method employed is a participatory approach, involving hands-on sewing training from basic techniques to the production of simple, marketable items. The results show significant improvement in participants' sewing abilities, self-confidence, and motivation to pursue entrepreneurship. This program demonstrates that non-formal, skills-based education can be an effective solution for community empowerment and reducing unemployment, especially in densely populated urban areas.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process and impact of briquette-making training using wood factory waste as a form of empowerment for Paket C learners at PKBM Manhajul Husna, Alalak Sub-district, North Banjarmasin District. The training program was designed to enhance vocational skills and environmental awareness by utilizing industrial waste into an alternative energy source. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the training successfully improved the learners’ knowledge and skills in processing wood waste into briquettes and fostered entrepreneurial spirit among them. Moreover, the program strengthened the role of non-formal education in addressing local environmental and economic issues. This training is considered effective as an empowerment strategy and is recommended to be replicated in other community learning centers (PKBM).

Abstract

School management is one of the efforts to achieve school goals effectively and efficiently through planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising. The quality of learning is influenced by the competence possessed by a teacher. The purpose of this study is to determine the planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising of schools in preparing competent teachers. In this study, a qualitative approach was used with case study research, with data collection through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques by reducing, presenting, and concluding data. The results of this study are: 1) the planning carried out by schools in preparing competent teachers has been designed in such a way with various considerations. 2) organizing, namely determining the placement of teacher tasks. 3) providing space for teachers to hone their abilities and potential, and also providing supporting training to provide additional pedagogical knowledge for teachers. 4) supervision of teachers, namely by observing the results of the quality of learning during the learning process. It can be concluded that by implementing optimal school management, it will provide effective quality learning for students.

Abstract

The main problems examined in this study include: what types of social media are used by students, what types of smartphones are used by students, and the role of social media in the formation of students' morals at the South Barito State Islamic Junior High School. The purpose of this study was to determine what types of social media are used by students, and how social media plays a role in the formation of students' morals at the South Barito State Islamic Junior High School. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, where the data is analyzed using data collection techniques through interviews and documentation. The subjects in this study were students of the South Barito State Islamic Junior High School, totaling 4 students in grade VII, 4 students in grade VIII, and 4 students in grade IX. The object of this study was the role of social media in the formation of students' morals at the South Barito State Islamic Junior High School. The data collected in this study were primary data and supporting data. The data sources of this study were respondents consisting of students and informants consisting of teachers and administrative staff. The results of this study indicate that Instagram is the most popular social media platform among students, and Android smartphones are the preferred smartphone, while iPhone usage is very limited among students. The role of social media among students varies, ranging from 1-9 hours per day, and positive interest in Islamic preaching content or lectures from certain religious teachers or preachers is also found. In addition, students also have their own favorite religious teachers or preachers. In this case, religious content on social media shows a specific consumption pattern among madrasah students, with a primary focus on lectures and Islamic preaching.

Abstract

This article aims to examine in depth two active learning models widely applied in modern education: Discovery Learning and Inquiry Learning. Using a qualitative approach with a literature review method, the author reviews the concepts, characteristics, steps, and advantages and disadvantages of each model based on academic literature. Discovery Learning emphasizes students' independent exploration process in discovering concepts through direct experience, while Inquiry Learning encourages students to engage in a systematic scientific investigation process to answer a problem. The results of the study indicate that both models are able to improve students' critical thinking and analytical skills, and independent learning. In addition, the application of these two approaches can also foster students' curiosity and active involvement in the learning process, thereby creating a more meaningful and sustainable learning experience. This article is expected to serve as a reference for educators in designing learning that is adaptive, participatory, and relevant to the demands of the 21st century
