Abstract

The emergence of deviant behavior among teenagers is caused by their inability to control their emotions. The tendency of teenagers to engage in deviant behavior can be controlled if they have well-developed emotional intelligence. Good emotional intelligence can help teenagers manage their emotions appropriately, enabling them to adapt to their environment. Family is one of the factors that influence emotional intelligence because the relationship between parents and teenagers has an impact on the emotional intelligence of teenagers. The aim of this study is to determine the difference in emotional intelligence between students whose parents are divorced and those whose parents are not (intact) at SMA PGRI Purwoharjo. This study is a comparative quantitative research involving 38 students with divorced parents and 38 students with intact parents at SMA PGRI Purwoharjo, selected using quota sampling technique. The study utilized an emotional intelligence scale (30 items, α = 0.866) adapted from Wardani's research (2019). The results of this study indicate that there is no difference in emotional intelligence between students with divorced parents and those with intact parents at SMA PGRI Purwoharjo (r = 0.759, p > 0.05).

Abstract

Family support is highly important because it can influence the emergence of adolescent delinquency. Parents' monitoring can significantly shape a child's behavior and character as they grow into adulthood. The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between permissive parenting styles and adolescent delinquency at SMK Muhammadiyah 8 Banyuwangi. This research employs a correlational approach with quantitative methods. The study subjects are 10th and 11th-grade adolescents from SMK Muhammadiyah 8 Banyuwangi, with a sample size of 117. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. The scale used to assess adolescent delinquency is a semantic scale with a validity of 0.656 and a reliability of 0.868. The scale for permissive parenting style is a Likert scale with a validity of 0.692 and a reliability of 0.900. Data analysis was conducted using the product moment method. The results of the study indicate a positive correlation between permissive parenting styles and adolescent delinquency at SMK Muhammadiyah 8 Banyuwangi, with a correlation coefficient of 0.553 and a significant level of 0.000. The relative contribution of permissive parenting styles to adolescent delinquency is represented by r² = 0.306, indicating that permissive parenting contributes to 30.6% of the variation, with the remaining influenced by other factors.

Abstract

Parents have a crucial role in nurturing, supporting, and educating their children. In reality, Retnaningtya & Pararamitha (2015) found that most parents only make minimal efforts to control and educate their children's development, with very few being significantly involved in their children's education. The aim of this research is to determine the influence of parental involvement on children's readiness to learn at TK Al-Amien Jember. This research employs a descriptive quantitative method. The total population is 271, with 142 parents as the sample, representing all the students at TK Al-Amien Jember. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling. Data collection utilizes two scales adapted and modified from the parental involvement scale by Hoover-Dempsey and Sandler (2005), consisting of 21 items, and the readiness to learn scale by Slameto (2010), consisting of 20 items. The analysis method involves testing the measurement tool, assumptions, and hypotheses using SPSS for Windows version 21 and MS Excel 2010. The correlation coefficient results indicate a 0.275 correlation between parental involvement and readiness to learn, with a two-tailed Sig value of 0.000. The findings show a positive relationship between parental involvement and readiness to learn. This suggests that the higher the parental involvement, the higher the children's readiness to learn, and conversely, lower parental involvement results in lower readiness to learn in children.

Abstract

A new paradigm of learning ensures that learning is centered around the learners. Educators are given the freedom to plan learning that accommodates the characteristics and needs of each learner. This accommodating activity can be carried out when educators already know and understand the characteristics of the learners themselves. However, in practice, the understanding of these learner characteristics has not been maximized. It becomes a concern if the understanding of learner characteristics is not done, as it will have an impact on optimizing the achievement of learning goals and the potential of the learners, as well as the meaningfulness of learning. The purpose of this research is to produce important data or information related to the profiling of the characteristics of the X-1 class students of SMA Negeri Mumbulsari, Jember, which can be used as a basis for optimizing learning activities. The characteristics examined are limited to the aspects of learning styles and student interests. Data is collected through observations and questionnaires for the students. Meanwhile, the research method used is qualitative research. The results of the research show that the X-1 class students at SMA Negeri Mumbulsari mostly have a lack of interest in the learning process, and the most dominant learning style among the students is visual learning.
