Abstract

As a result of development and in line with the recent progress of technology, transportation sector is indicating the increase in number and changing in vehicle characteristic. The vehicle characteristic is changing vary from shape, dimension, and capacity. The change of those technical vehicle element, will influence geometric planning parameter of roadway which have been established in Bina Marga Guidance Of Road and Street Geometry Planning Procedures (1997). With those tendencies mentioned, technical design of yielded road and geometry cannot fulfill requirement of design vehicle traffic movements, resulting in traffic obstructions and accident possibilities. How far is the differencial gap between dimensional technical elements of designed vehicle, contained in the guidance and the actual operational vehicles. This study describes the research result, which indicates the existence of significant shifting in front and rear overhang length of truck and buses. Abstract

Indication of pavement damages on many roads address to ultimate causes, ie. Overloading of heavy vehicles especially trucks operating along the Pantura lane, North of Java island. Proved which has been occurred, e.g. The collapse of Calendar Hamilton “Cipunegara Lama” bridge at Pantura Lane in year 2003. Although, how far the vehicles are overloading, up to now there is no yet formal statement have been published. This paper aims to discuss the design traffic volumes which is covered several topics, ie. basic regulation and methods, both for geometric and pavement design. The discussion concluded that the term of overloading may have two meanings. First, vehicle axle weight is greater than Maximum permissible Axle Load (MST); and second, traffic load design which is expressed as Cumulative Equivalent Standard Axles (CESA) are reached earlier than expected (premature damage). To overcome the problems, it is suggested to count the traffic data covering volumes and loads as basic for design. Keywords : Road damage, Vehicle axle weight, Maximum permissible Axle Load

Abstract

The solution to cases of road pavement failure in accommodating traffic loads and densed traffic is needed. One of materials needed to increase the quality of road pavement is that the addition of additive containing Manganese component. The article describes the laboratory and field research result and the influence of the addition of additives containing manganese component on asphalt Rheological properties and asphalt mix performance both in the laboratory and field. The result showed that at early stage, the addition of additive decreased asphalt penetration value and decreased Marshall stability of asphalt mixture. Rheological properties and performance increased over time. Field experiment experiment conducted by Daniels (1990) cs showed that asphalt mix performance using additive containing manganese compound increased during service, and decreased layer thickness ranging between 20 to 30%. In another location film thickness increased about 30 – 45 % than conventional asphalt, and appeared crocodile cracks on the location with modifier, therefore experiment in different location should be conducted to gain effective result of the material. It is suggested that the materialis used in stable pavements when additive is used, the process and the influence of it on asphalt mixture should be studied. Abstract

The use of back calculation method in pavement system analysis is very common nowadays. There are many computer programs available to perform back calculation process on FWD deflection data. The results from back calculation process are the elastic moduli of pavement layers. These pavement layer moduli, particularly asphalt layer moduli, are affected by such factors as temperature and survey load. This study was carried out on jln. Sukarno-Hatta in Bandung where FWD deflection data were measured at various temperatures and survey loads. This paper outlines back calculation process performed comparatively using program BackCalc and program BackFAA. It was found that temperature and survey load influenced the resulting pavement moduli significantly, and as expected, the two computer programs resulted in quite consistent pavement moduli. Key words: FWD deflection bowl, back calculation process, program BackCalc, program BAKFAA

Abstract

General condition network of national roads in 2005 indicated 11% (3.809 Km), their condition were heavily damage, 8% (2.770 Km) light damage, about 81% (20.050 Km) in good condition. The increased damage of roads is caused by some factors: specification of construction is not appropriate and supervisor or implementer is not professional and nature disaster etc. But environmental factor often is forgotten. Studying of environment for building and increasing of roads based on Kepmen Lingkungan Hidup No. 17/2001 and Kepmen Kimpraswil No.17/2003 it’s clear, it must be equipped with AMDAL or UKL/UPL but the documents in realization are not benefit so that it is ignored and never to make survey too. Result of studying for some documents AMDAL or UKL/UPL inroads sector, damaged roads will not increase if the document are arranged professionally and responsibility, user has to do the suggestion in document. Technical studying of environment needs to the attention for increasing the roads plan age are tophographie data, soil data, social-economic survey, hydrology data (drainage system) and vegetation condition around the project area, including in environment control plan. That control on decrase road damage about 5-20%. Keywords : Environmental Control, Roads Contraction

Abstract

The damage of asphalt pavement occurs in national road between Kupang adn Atambua in Timor Island is East Nusa Tenggara usually identified by longitudinal cracks on side of road pavement. The cracks were caused by shrinkage and swelling of subgrade of "Bobonaro Clay" which has expansive characteristic. One methods from several possibilities to overcome the swell and shrinkage from happening, is to maintain the m.c. as constant as possible. The technology applied here is by the used of moisture barrier namely geomembran. This method was chosen to overcome the crack problem in Sta.214-217 between Maubesi - Nesam considering that the function for public service of the road should be kept functioning etc. After two years monotoring, no cracks detected. Keywords : expansive soils, moisture barrier, geomembrane.

Abstract

Vegetation in roadway environment consists in general of trees, shrubs and bushes. Bushes are the vegetation type with lowest posture compared to trees and shrubs. On the green path of the roadway environment, vegetation can be grown along the side walk or roadway shoulder, in general with tress. However, by using pot type vegetation, shrubs and bushes can also be grown. The vegetation type for roadway median is according to regulations only allowed for shrubs and bushes.City parks, functioning as breathing path or city lungs can be grown with a combination all tress type of vegetation. The benefits of green open are most important in protecting the living environment all tress type of vegetation. The benefits of green open areas are most important in protecting the living environment in cities against varoius pollutions including air pollution. Bush vegetation is a vegetation type that can be combined with shrubs and trees, in reducing pollution and improving the air quality of the roadway environment. In this case study, the role of bushes is not only investigated from esthetical point of view, but mainly on the improvement of public service for road users and surrounding environment, creating benefits like comfort in environmental health. Result of studies shown that bushes are reducing NOx : (20.49 - 54.42) % and CO : (35.14 - 92.22) % Keywords : Air Pollution, Vehicle, bushes
