Abstract

This study aims to thoroughly examine the phenomenon of the use of standard and non-standard words found in various types of written texts in public spaces, particularly in promotional media and visual information. The method employed is qualitative descriptive with a content analysis approach. Data were obtained through direct observation of visual elements in public spaces and analyzed with the support of literature from previous studies, including social media posts that reflect the everyday language habits of the community. The study focuses on various visual media such as banners and business signboards that display language use. The results indicate a significant gap between the language rules stipulated in the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling (PUEBI) and the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI) and the language practices developed in society. Several factors influencing the use of non-standard words include the community's habitual use of certain forms, the inheritance of habits from previous generations, and the influence of foreign languages and local dialects. The consequences of this phenomenon may include misunderstandings in communication and challenges in maintaining the standard and purity of Indonesian as the national language.

Abstract

The Union Parishad, a century-old local institution in Bangladesh, has long served as a key service delivery body founded and operated by rural residents. To make local justice more accessible, the Village Court system was introduced in the mid-1970s to strengthen Shalish, the traditional informal justice mechanism. These courts offered an alternative to the lengthy and expensive formal judicial process. However, over time, poor performance and weak institutional capacity reduced their significance. To revitalize them, the Government of Bangladesh, with support from the European Union and UNDP, launched the “Activating Village Courts Project,” which has improved their effectiveness and accessibility. Despite challenges such as weak record-keeping, limited staff capacity, and low public awareness, Village Courts play an essential role in resolving rural disputes, maintaining peace, and reducing the burden on formal courts. Governed by the Village Court Act of 2006, they protect rural citizens from the complexities of the formal justice system. Strengthening these courts requires expanding their jurisdiction, improving training, increasing oversight, and enhancing public awareness through government and NGO initiatives. With sustained support and nationwide expansion of successful initiatives, Village Courts can become a practical and credible alternative for rural justice in Bangladesh.

Abstract

Implicature can be said to provide an explicit or concrete explanation of how to interpret more than just "what is actually said." In other words, implicature provides a description of a particular speech act. This research uses an experimental method, a method that involves analyzing natural conversations to identify implicatures that emerge in social contexts. The results of this study are conventional implicatures in the Implicatures in the Ustad Abdul Somad Official Youtube Channel with the Theme of Dawn Achieving Blessings in conventional implicatures, namely: "If we are in the toilet, we are not allowed to dhikr" and: Yes, because if we dhikr, it is a disturbance from Satan who whispers in the heart". The conversation above is also a conversation carried out by Ustad Abdul Somad by showing that Satan when in the toilet will disturb humans to do things that are prohibited by Allah SWT.

Abstract

Trafficking within Nigerian custodial centres has become an emerging security concern that undermines the integrity of correctional institutions and threatens national security. The phenomenon includes the illegal movement of contraband items such as drugs, mobile phones, weapons, money, and other prohibited materials into custodial facilities, often facilitated through collusion involving inmates, visitors, or corrupt officials. This paper examines the implications of trafficking for correctional staff integrity, institutional security, and the effectiveness of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCOs). Using a qualitative documentary research design, the study relies on secondary data obtained from scholarly journals, books, government publications, policy documents, and reports of international organizations. The findings reveal that trafficking erodes staff professionalism, promotes corruption, strengthens criminal networks within custodial centres, compromises rehabilitation programmes, and weakens public confidence in correctional institutions. The study recommends strengthening staff integrity systems, deploying modern surveillance technologies, improving staff welfare, enforcing anti-corruption measures, and enhancing inter-agency collaboration to curb trafficking and improve institutional effectiveness.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship among instructional leadership skills, teachers’ self-efficacy, and school effectiveness in secondary schools in Zamfara State, Nigeria. The main objective was to determine the extent of instructional leadership demonstrated by principals, assess teachers’ self-efficacy, and evaluate school effectiveness. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, with 370 respondents selected through stratified random sampling from public secondary schools. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Findings revealed that principals’ instructional leadership skills were generally high, while teachers’ self-efficacy was moderate. School effectiveness in the sampled schools was found to be high, indicating that leadership practices and teacher engagement positively influence school outcomes. The correlation analyses demonstrated very strong positive relationships between instructional leadership and school effectiveness (r = 0.941, p < 0.01), as well as between teachers’ self-efficacy and school effectiveness (r = 0.966, p < 0.01), confirming that both variables are significant predictors of school performance. The study concludes that effective instructional leadership not only directly enhances school outcomes but also indirectly improves school effectiveness by fostering teachers’ confidence and professional competence. Based on these findings, it is recommended that principals receive continuous leadership training, teachers be supported through mentorship and professional development programs, and schools implement collaborative and evaluative mechanisms to sustain high instructional quality and school performance. The study contributes to understanding how leadership practices and teacher self-efficacy jointly influence educational effectiveness in the Nigerian secondary school context.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a significant role in supporting Indonesia's economic growth. The rapid development of digital technology has created opportunities for MSMEs to enhance their competitiveness through the utilization of social media, online marketplaces, digital payment systems, and other supporting technologies. However, the digital transformation process also presents several challenges, including low levels of digital literacy, limited human resources, insufficient capital, and unequal access to technological infrastructure. This study aims to analyze the condition of MSMEs in the digital era, identify the challenges encountered during the digital transformation process, and examine development strategies that can be implemented to improve competitiveness and business sustainability. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive research design through a library research method. Data were collected from various scientific sources, including journal articles, books, conference proceedings, research reports, and relevant official publications. The data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that digitalization enables MSMEs to expand market reach, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen customer relationships. However, the success of digital transformation is strongly influenced by the readiness of human resources, adaptability, and support from various stakeholders. Therefore, MSME development strategies in the digital era should focus on enhancing digital literacy, optimizing the use of digital platforms, strengthening innovation, and fostering collaboration among the government, business actors, educational institutions, financial institutions, and technology companies. The implementation of these strategies is expected to enhance competitiveness, ensure business sustainability, and increase the contribution of MSMEs to Indonesia's national economic growth.

Abstract

The contemporary security environment in Nigeria and West Africa is increasingly characterized by complex, interconnected, and rapidly evolving threats, including terrorism, armed banditry, kidnapping, violent extremism, transnational organised crime, cybercrime, communal conflicts, separatist violence, trafficking, illicit arms proliferation, resource-based conflicts, political instability, and climate-related insecurity. These threats frequently develop through identifiable patterns before escalating into full-scale security crises. However, the effectiveness of national and regional security institutions is often constrained by fragmented intelligence systems, inadequate information sharing, weak analytical capacity, poor coordination among security agencies, limited technological infrastructure, insufficient community participation, and the persistent gap between early warning and early action. This study examines the role of intelligence-led early warning systems in strengthening national security and preventing emerging security threats in Nigeria and West Africa. It develops a strategic framework that integrates intelligence collection, data fusion, predictive analysis, community-based information, technological surveillance, inter-agency coordination, regional intelligence sharing, risk assessment, decision-making, and preventive response. The study adopts a qualitative documentary research design, relying on secondary sources including academic literature, official reports, policy documents, institutional publications, and regional security frameworks. The analysis is anchored principally in Intelligence-Led Policing Theory, Human Security Theory, and Systems Theory. The paper argues that early warning becomes strategically valuable only when intelligence is transformed into timely, credible, actionable information and connected to clearly defined response mechanisms. Existing regional arrangements such as the ECOWAS Warning and Response Network (ECOWARN) and the African Union Continental Early Warning System (CEWS) provide important foundations, but their effectiveness depends on stronger national-regional linkages, interoperable information systems, analytical capacity, trusted community networks, and political willingness to act on warnings. The study proposes an Intelligence-Led Early Warning and Preventive Security Framework (ILEW-PSF) for Nigeria and West Africa. It recommends the establishment of integrated national intelligence fusion mechanisms, real-time risk dashboards, predictive analytics capacity, community intelligence networks, stronger border intelligence, improved intelligence-sharing protocols, early-action triggers, professional training, legal safeguards, and closer cooperation among Nigeria, ECOWAS, the African Union, and other relevant stakeholders.

Abstract

The history of the Indian freedom struggle extends beyond the major political movements of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Before organized nationalism emerged, several regional leaders resisted the expansion of the British East India Company. Among them, Dheeran Chinnamalai played a significant role in the early resistance to British rule in Kongu Nadu and South India. Born as Theerthagiri in 1756, he opposed colonial taxation and political control and later led an armed struggle. His association with Tipu Sultan, military experience, mobilization of Kongu forces, and establishment of Odanilai strengthened his resistance. This study examines the political conditions of Kongu Nadu, Chinnamalai’s connection with Mysore, military campaigns, guerrilla warfare, defence of Odanilai, and his capture and execution in 1805. It also places his activities within the broader context of the Palayakkarar and South Indian rebellions. The study argues that his resistance reflected the defence of regional autonomy and opposition to colonial expansion. His career demonstrates the presence of organized regional resistance in South India well before the rise of nationalist politics. His legacy remains significant in the history of Kongu Nadu and early Indian resistance to colonial rule.
