DIALEKTIKA: JURNAL BAHASA, SASTRA DAN BUDAYA
FOCUS AND SCOPE Journal of Dialektika is a professional, double-blind peer-reviewed international journal devoted to promoting scholarly knowledge and exchanging academic research and professional findings on all aspects of English such as English literature, second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) learning, including translation studies. To this end, Dialektika publishes theoretical and empirical studies in the form of original research, research reviews, case studies, conceptual frameworks, and innovative educational and social ideas with both regional and global perspectives. Dialektika has a clear preference for manuscripts with a solid theoretical foundation and tangible educational and research implications. We, therefore, invite original submissions from around the world that fit within this aim. Authors are encouraged to submit complete, unpublished, original, and full-length articles that are not under review elsewhere. The online version of the journal is free to access and download.

<![CDATA[Abstract The research presented here focuses on Rue Bennett, the protagonist of the film series Euphoria. Using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory as a guide, the goal of this study is to determine Rue Bennett's personality structure and analyze her protective mechanisms. In this study, qualitative approaches and descriptive analysis are utilized to analyze data through the lens of psychoanalytic theory in relation to personality structure and defensive mechanisms in films. Utilizing these methodologies, this hypothesis is incorporated into the research. The information is gathered from both the script's speech and the film's pictures. Rue Bennett, a 17-year-old adolescent, has developed a drug dependence in order to reduce the overwhelming anxiety she encounters, according to the findings. As a result, Rue's anxiety problem has caused an uneven personality structure as a consequence of the ailment. Her id takes precedence over her superego when it comes to the causes of her anxiety and panic attacks. Even though Rue employs a variety of defensive mechanisms, including denial, projection, and fantasy. These are insufficient to assist her in overcoming her traumatic experiences and anxieties.]]>

<![CDATA[This article analyzes the conflicts experienced by the main character in the film Call Me by Your Name by Luca Guadagnino. Guadagnino is an Italian director known for films such as The Protagonist (1999), I am Love (2010), and Suspiria (2018). Call Me by Your Name (2017) is Guadagnino's film which discusses the issue of homosexuality set in a rural area in Lombardy, Italy in 1983. The analysis focuses on aspects of conflict because the issue of homosexuality is most clearly reflected through this aspect. The analysis is carried out to reveal the types of conflicts that occur, the causes of conflicts, conflict resolution, and how the film's cinematography helps visualize these conflicts. By using the formalism approach, it is concluded that there are two types of dominant conflict, namely social conflict and inner conflict. The main cause of the conflict is the character's inability to express his identity as a homosexual. The cinematographic aspect also helps conflict analysis through the visualization that is displayed.]]>

<![CDATA[Kehadiran aplikasi aplikasi hasil kecerdasan buatan (artificial inteligence) di jaman sekarang tidak akan bisa kita hindari. Dalam keseharian kita saat ini, kecerdasan buatan sangat membantu kita dalam menyelesaikan pekerjaan kita. Penelitian ini membahas tentang jenis kekurangan yang dimiliki oleh aplikasi Grammarly sebagai mesin pemeriksa kesalahan tulisan dalam sebuah naskah. Penelitian ini juga memberikan informasi mengenai langkah-langkah atau solusi yang dilakukan manusia, sebagai penulis, untuk mengatasi kekurangan yang dimiliki oleh aplikasi Grammarly. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian kualitatif berupa kata, frasa, klausa dan kalimat dalam tulisan ilmiah mahasiswa di jurusan Sastra Inggris, Universitas Kristen Indonesia. Analisis data didapatkan oleh peneliti dari hasil observasi peneliti terhadap uji coba penggunaan aplikasi Grammarly. Peneliti melakukan teknik analisis konten. Dalam hal ini peneliti menjelaskan setiap jenis contoh kesalahan penulisan yang dideteksi oleh Grammarly serta penjelasan mengenai langkah-langkah yang dilakukan peneliti dalam memperbaiki kesalahan tersebut. Dari penelitian ini dapat ditemukan bahwa ada beberapa kesalahan penulisan yang bisa dideteksi oleh aplikasi Grammarly yaitu: a. pengetikan huruf (typo); b. kekosongan tanda baca; c. pillihan kata tidak tepat; d. spasi tidak tepat atau berlebihan; e. kalimat bermakna tidak jelas atau ambigu; f. kalimat berstruktur tidak lengkap. Dari temuan ini, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa secanggih teknologi kecerdasan buatan manusia (artificial intelligence), manusia yang akan selalu melakukan penyempurnaan secara manual. Penulis berharap bahwa penelitian dengan topik pembahasan mesin pemeriksa kesalahan penulisan bisa dilanjutkan di kemudian hari oleh peneliti lainnya agar dapat memberikan perbandingan kualitas antara beberapa aplikasi sehingga memberikan banyak pilihan kepada penulis untuk memeriksa kesalahan dalamnaskah tulisannya. <![CDATA[Currently, there are many discussion broadcast programs discussing exciting and interesting topics both on YouTube and on television. An example of a discussion broadcast program is the Mata Najwa program which is broadcast on television and Youtube. These activities involve participants performing speech acts. Speech acts are individual psychological symptoms in language. A discussion broadcast on YouTube or on television will be watched by the community, and for that participants need to apply the principle of cooperation in communicating. The application of the principle of cooperation in communication will make communication smooth and directed. This study aims to describe the application of the principle of cooperation and its benefits in the discussion between Iqbaal D Ramadhan and Najwa Shihab at the Mata Najwa: One Special Purpose of Independence on August 20, 2020. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with listening technique. The resulting data is in the form of audio which is then transcribed into text. The data analysis stage uses a classification technique into several maxims, after which the data is presented and conclusions are made. The result of this research is to find 9 conversations that apply the cooperative principle and are classified into several maxims, namely the maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, the maxim of relation, and the maxim of manner. And the benefit of applying these maxims in a broadcast is to shorten the time in carrying out conversations and participants try to only say what is true and relevant. This research also discusses things that violate the principle of cooperation, includina g: the existence of implicatures and humor, as well as the influence of cultural and situational factors that can expand the topic of conversation.]]>

<![CDATA[Keragaman bahasa di Indonesia menimbulkan perbedaan bahasa antara satu daerah dengan daerah lainnya sehingga memiliki ciri khas tersendiri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan perbandingan proses afiksasi Bahasa Jawa Banyumasan dengan Bahasa Indonesia.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif kualitatif Sumber data yang digunakan berasal dari cerita pendek berjudul Nini Rikem dan Kaki Tupon (Anake Akeh) karya Umi Asmarani, sedangkan data yang digunakan yaitu proses afiksasi Bahasa Jawa Banyumasan dengan Bahasa Indonesia. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan analisis dokumen. Hasil penelitian ditemukan adanya proses afiksasi dalam perbandingan Bahasa Jawa Banyumasan dengan Bahasa Indonesia, yaitu prefiksasi, sufiksasi, dan konfiksasi yang memiliki struktur bunyi sekaligus fungsi atau artinya masing-masing. Pada prefiksasi terdapat awalan (N-, ŋ-, di-, tek-), sufiksasi terdapat akhiran (-E, -na, -Ne), dan komfiksasi terdapat awalan serta akhiran (di -i, di -na, N -i, M -i, N -na, Pe(N) -an).]]>

<![CDATA[This study is aimed to describe and analyze the interpersonal meaning of Biden’s DNC speech in 2020. From the perspective of interpersonal meaning, the users of language establish and maintain their position in the social relationship. This study focuses on the analysis of the usage of modality and the value of modality in expressing interpersonal meaning. This study was conducted by using qualitative. The theory applied in this study is Interpersonal meaning from the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) by M.A.K. Halliday and supported by other Systemic Functional Linguists’ theories. The results of this research showed that the high value of modality is applied in the texts in order to convince the listeners to vote for him, and to show status, power, relationship among them. <![CDATA[Abstrak Sebagai serial animasi yang populer, terdapat banyak penelitian yang menjadikan serial animasi Nussa dan Rarra sebagai objeknya. Penelitian-penelitian tersebut umumnya memaparkan mengenai dampak positif yang ditimbulkan kedua serial animasi tersebut pada penonton anak-anak. Dengan menawarkan perspektif berbeda, yaitu perspektif feminisme, tulisan ini ditujukan sebagai kritik terhadap perepresentasian peran bias gender yang terdapat dalam serial animasi Nussa dan Rarra. Dengan pendekatan semiotika, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelisik struktur sosial patriarki yang ditampilkan dalam kedua serial tersebut dengan mendasarkan pada 6 struktur sosial patriarki Walby. Hasil analisis dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya paparan ideologi patriarki dalam kedua serial tersebut melalui penokohan Umma dan Abba pada struktur hubungan patriarki dengan institusi budaya serta dengan pekerjaan rumah tangga yang mana Umma dan Abba ditampilkan berperan sesuai dengan stereotip patriarkis peran gender mereka. Perepresentasian ideologi patriarki ini diwujudkan melalui penokohan dan ekspektasi tokoh lain terhadap peran Umma dan Abba. Kata kunci: patriarki, penokohan, gender Abstract As the popular animated series, there have been many studies that use Nussa and Rarra animation series as the object. These studies generally describe the positive impact that these two animated series have on children. By offering a different perspective, namely the perspective of feminism, this paper is intended as a critique of the representation of gender bias in the animated series Nussa and Rarra. Using a semiotic approach, this study aims to examine the patriarchal social structure shown in the two series based on Walby's 6 patriarchal social structures. The results of the analysis in this study indicate that patriarchal ideology is inserted in both series through the characterizations of Umma and Abba in the structures of culture and housework in which Umma and Abba are portrayed according to their patriarchal gender role stereotypes. The representation of this patriarchal ideology is manifested through characterizations and other figures' expectations of the roles of Umma and Abba. <![CDATA[This research article explores the application of Jungian archetypal theory in analyzing Stephen King's novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. The primary focus of this analysis is to uncover the archetypal identities embodied by the central characters, Andy Dufresne and Ellis "Red" Redding. Employing a close-reading method, the researcher examines the novella to gather relevant data for this study. By delving deep into their individual journeys and psychological transformations, the objective of this research is to unveil the underlying archetypal forces that shape their roles within the narrative. Drawing inspiration from Carl Jung's concept of archetypes and the collective unconscious, this analysis identifies Andy Dufresne as a manifestation of the "trickster" and "hero" archetypes, as evidenced by his portrayal in the story. On the other hand, Red embodies the "mentor" archetype, serving as a seasoned inmate and the narrator of the novella. In this way, the study sheds light on the archetypal dimensions present in the characters of the novella.]]>

<![CDATA[Humor has played an important role in daily communication and interaction in different context and culture. The purposes of this research are : 1) to find out the types of humor delivery found in Family Feud Funny Moment; 2) to describe the function of humor delivery found in Family Feud Funny Moment. This research used qualitative descriptive method. As many as 64 data of humor were collected by observing and note taking method. All data which were obtained were analyzed by using the humor theories in order to get the types of humor delivery and the function of Humor by Attardo (1994) to get the function. The results show that the types of humor delivery implemented three different humor delivery theories, namely release, incongruiy and superiority. Of the three theories implemented, incongruity became the most dominat theory used in delivering humors which were found in 33 parts of deliveries or 51,56%. . The second result showed that there were four different functions of humor delivery found in Family Feud Funny Moment, such as defunctionalization, mediation, social management, and decommitment function. The most frequent function appeared in this event was as follow the as defunctionalization as many as 22 data (34,37%).]]>

<![CDATA[Reference is an important aspect of the learning process, especially in analyzing discourse, both in the forms of scientific texts and literary works such as drama, prose, and poetry. Two concepts of reference are used: the kinds of referents and ways of referring. Kinds of referents include unique or non-unique, concrete or abstract, and countable or non-countable referents. Meanwhile, the ways of referring include a generic or non-generic, specific or non-specific, and definite or indefinite reference. These two concepts are used to identify and categorize referents in the poem “All the World’s a Stage” by William Shakespeare. Categorizing referents can help reveal some of the referents used by Shakespeare in the poem. Analyzing references in poetry can enrich understanding in analyzing literary works more deeply. Even so, the results of each researcher’s analysis may differ depending on how each individual interprets the poem.]]>
