Abstract

Teachers' self-efficacy is a crucial element in fostering inclusive practices in school and classroom settings. Teachers' confidence about their ability and motivation to promote inclusive teaching practices in their classrooms is influenced by this important variable. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between teachers' self-efficacy and their beliefs about inclusive practices in Tanzania's primary schools. This study involved 254 in-service primary school teachers from 18 schools in Dodoma and Mwanza. This study employed a correlational study design. Findings indicate that levels of teacher self-efficacy and beliefs about inclusive practices exhibit a positive, but weak relationship. It was found that teachers' levels of self-efficacy are related to their beliefs about the effectiveness of inclusive education in teaching pupils with disabilities in general classrooms as compared with those who do not utilize inclusive education. In light of the findings of this study, it is suggested that measures be taken to improve teachers' personal variables in order to improve their competence and confidence in using inclusive instruction, building pupils' engagement, and managing classrooms in schools.

Abstract

This study assessed the language curriculum implemented for basic education in Tanzania on the adequacy of the digitally-enhanced language competences needed in the world of work inspired by digital era. It argues that although language curriculum has been recently changed to respond to the needs of the competence-based language teaching approach, yet the school leavers from basic education in Tanzania not only are unable to sufficiently demonstrate the curriculum target languages proficiency in various communicative situations but also, they do not live the digital citizenship. Using findings from the narrative literature review, the study has shown that, digital literacy, media literacy, job market rhetoric tourism language, and trade and commerce language skills are not adequately integrated in the language curriculum implemented for basic education in Tanzania. Since the reform seemingly show to have been informed by the social efficiency and learner-centered curriculum ideologies, these job-competitive skills have to be at the centre of the language curriculum for basic education to help the school leavers overcome digitally-enhanced communicative challenges of the contemporary world of work. A job-seeker needs to demonstrate the target language proficiency required and its rhetoric so as to deliver services as expected at work. The findings of this study have implications for language curriculum development and policy-making in the country.

Abstract

This study explored the views of students towards adoption of the Learning Management System in enhancing teaching and learning processes. It used the UTAUT lenses to organize the views of students about eclassroom. The study focused on the experiences of UDOM students who have the experience of using the eclassroom system as the LMS. It was the qualitative study which used an online qualitative survey to collect data from the participants from students in two consecutive years. About 315 participants were able to fill the online questionnaire. The conceptual content analysis technique was used for data analysis basing on the four constructs of the UTAUT as the predetermined themes. The findings show that students view use of LMS positively due to learning opportunities introduced, effectiveness, saving cost as well as saving time achieved during the interaction with the system. However, facilitating conditions are to be improved to remove barriers like poor network and security issues for smooth adoption of LMS by others. The study concludes that, adoption of LMS in universities is the right path to embrace since it is consistently proven by optimistic views of students that the system is more useful in terms of the four constructs of the UTAUT model. Key recommendation is that the institutions should be active enough to create a conducive environment as per the Tanzania Commission for Universities 2022 guidelines on online courses delivery and management.

Abstract

This study aims to find out whether or not the students able to use adverbs, their level of mastery and the difficult types of adverbs in writing descriptive text. To attain the goals of this research, it employed a qualitative research method, 14 eighth grade students of SMP Negeri Tublopo chosen as its samples, and a writing test. To get the data needed, it explained its aims, kinds of adverbs and ways of writing descriptive text, and asked them to write at least 3 paragraphs of descriptive text by using the prepared topic. The worksheets were counted and cored by the right answers divided with the total number of students times 100% in order to categorize and identify their ability. Their scores were then ranged from 46-100 in order to categorize their level of ability (from poor to excellent). The results show that they have mastered the use of kinds of adverbs in their writing since they got 80 average score, above the maximum mastery criteria. However, adverb of degree is still the most difficult type for them to master. Therefore, their level of mastery is categorized excellent since eight students (57.14%) got scores ranged from 80-100. It implies that teachers should develop their students’ ability by forcing them to use adverbs in writing.
