Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed to improve first-year students’ reading ability through the application of a speed reading technique at SMKN 1 Watunohu during the 2014/2015 academic year. The participants of this study were 26 first-grade students. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Data were collected using observation checklists to examine students’ engagement during the learning process and multiple-choice tests to measure students’ reading achievement. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to evaluate improvements in students’ speed reading performance across the cycles. The findings revealed that in Cycle I, students’ reading ability did not meet the minimum achievement criteria, indicating that the implementation of the technique had not yet been effective. However, significant improvement was observed in Cycle II, where students demonstrated better reading speed and comprehension, and the minimum achievement standard was successfully achieved. These results indicate that the speed reading technique can effectively enhance students’ reading ability when systematically implemented through reflective instructional cycles. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed to improve first-year students’ reading ability through the application of a speed reading technique at SMKN 1 Watunohu during the 2014/2015 academic year. Abstract

Misconceptions in physics learning, particularly in dynamic electricity, often hinder students’ conceptual understanding and problem-solving abilities. This study aimed (1) to develop a valid and reliable three-tier diagnostic test and (2) to identify junior high school students’ misconceptions regarding dynamic electricity concepts. The research employed a Research and Development (RD) approach adapted from the Borg and Gall model and modified according to Treagust’s diagnostic test development framework. The development process involved content determination, information gathering, test construction, expert validation, and field testing. The instrument consisted of three-tier multiple-choice items comprising answer selection, reasoning, and confidence level. Item validity was analyzed using the point-biserial correlation coefficient, while reliability was calculated using the Kuder–Richardson Formula 20 (KR-20). The finalized instrument included 21 valid items with a reliability coefficient of 0.75, indicating good reliability. The diagnostic test was administered to 189 students from five classes at a public senior high school. The findings revealed that 49.4% of students experienced misconceptions, 36.6% understood the concepts, 6.9% had weak conceptual understanding, 5.6% did not understand the concepts, and 1.1% answered correctly by guessing. These results indicate that misconceptions in dynamic electricity remain prevalent and highlight the importance of diagnostic assessment as a basis for remedial instruction.

Abstract

The problem taken in this research is that students' ability to recognize and differentiate syllables is still low, so it needs to be improved using more effective strategic methods to stimulate students' enthusiasm and ability to recognize syllables. If we look at the learning method, it is felt that the Maharaja method is more appropriate to be applied in the activity of recognizing syllables in group B at Bhinneka Kindergarten because the children do not feel burdened with learning and do not separate their play activities. This type of research is classroom action research. Analysis of the research results shows that there was an increase in students' abilities in cycle 1, children's completion reached 58.3% and there was an increase in cycle II, increasing to 91.6% and only 1 student out of 12 students had not yet completed it. The use of the Maharaja method in this classroom action research based on student learning results was concluded to improve the ability to recognize syllables for Bhinneka Kindergarten students in Semarang.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how the application of the simulation learning method in Islamic Religious Education lessons for students at SMP Negeri 12 Poleang Barat; What are the learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education for students at SMP Negeri 12 Poleang Barat; and how to increase the learning outcomes of Islamic religious education through the application of simulation learning methods for students at SMP Negeri 12 Poleang Barat. To answer this question, Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted which consisted of two cycles with three meetings and one evaluation. While research procedures include planning, implementing observation and evaluation, and reflection. The results showed that in cycle I only 36 out of 42 students met the Maximum Completeness Criteria (KKM), the average score was 70.00, or was in the low category. whereas in cycle II out of 440 of 42 students have met the Maximum Completeness Criteria (KKM) with an average value of 90.00 or are in the high category.

Abstract

Kindergarten education has a very important role in developing children's personalities and preparing them to enter the next level of education. Reading is a language skill and is an integrated learning consisting of; recognize letters, words, sounds, meanings and get the essence of what is read. Media is considered important, because children need concreteness. Where one of the principles of learning in PAUD is concreteness. Letter cards are a tool that can be used to convey material by looking at pictures, symbols or letter shapes.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the improvement of students’ speaking ability through the use of picture media. The participants were 25 second-grade students of SMKN 1 Watunohu. The study employed a classroom action research (CAR) design, which was conducted over two cycles. Each cycle involved planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting stages to identify the effectiveness of picture media in enhancing students’ speaking skills. Data were collected through speaking tests, classroom observations, and field notes, focusing on students’ ability to introduce someone, retell the profile of a picture, and describe someone based on the picture’s profile.  The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ speaking ability across the two cycles. In the first cycle, the average speaking score was 55.4, indicating a moderate level of proficiency. After implementing the second cycle with refined strategies and feedback, the average score increased to 77.6, demonstrating substantial improvement. Observational data also showed that students were more confident, engaged, and able to express ideas fluently when supported by visual aids. The results suggest that picture media serves as an effective tool for developing speaking skills by providing contextual and visual support, stimulating students’ ideas, and facilitating meaningful communication.  In conclusion, the use of picture media in the teaching and learning process significantly enhances students’ speaking ability, particularly in tasks such as introducing others, retelling profiles, and describing people based on visual cues. This study provides evidence that integrating visual media into English language teaching can increase learners’ motivation, participation, and overall language proficience.
