Abstract

Neck pain is one of the musculoskeletal disorders due to several causative factors, one of which is ergonomic factors at work. Electroacupuncture and gua sha therapy have been widely used as alternative treatment methods to help reduce pain and improve functional ability in neck pain. This study aims to determine the effect of electroacupuncture and gua sha on reducing pain scale and neck disability. This study employed a double-blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) with a true experimental design. A total of 34 subjects were selected using simple random sampling from a population of 40, with 6 additional participants prepared as reserves. The intervention group received electroacupuncture at points GB 20 (Fengchi), GB 21 (Jianjing), and Gua Sha, while the control group received only electroacupuncture at GB 20 and GB 21. Pain intensity and neck disability were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) before and after 10 sessions of therapy. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests, including tests of normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing, to assess the effectiveness of the interventions. Both the intervention group (electroacupuncture combined with Gua Sha) and the control group (electroacupuncture only) showed a significant reduction in pain intensity and neck disability, as measured by the NRS and NDI scores (p < 0.05). However, the reduction was greater in the intervention group, indicating a more pronounced effect when Gua Sha was added to electroacupuncture therapy. combination of electroacupuncture with Gua Sha provides greater clinical benefits compared to electroacupuncture alone

Abstract

Joint disorders are common in the knee and result in pain and limitation of motion. Knee pain can signi-ficantly reduce people's quality of life. This disorder can be complained of starting from a productive age to the elderly. The etiology of knee pain is complex, one of which is the age factor. Acupuncture therapy can reduce several cases of musculoskeletal disorders, one of which is knee pain. This study aims to determine the effect of a combination of knee infrared therapy with ear acupuncture and local point electroacupuncture on the pain scale in knee pain patients at Puskesmas Baki Sukoharjo. This study used a type of quantitative research with a “Quasi-Experimental” research design. This study was divided into two treatment groups, namely the first group of ear acupuncture therapy combined with knee infrared, and the second group of local point electroacupuncture. This study started from February to March 2025 for 4 weeks and was conduct¬ed at Puskesmas Baki Sukoharjo. The results of the Wilcoxon test obtained a ρ value of 0.001, and the Mann-Whitney test obtained a ρ value of 0.011. These results indicate that there is an effect of a combination of knee infrared therapy with ear acupuncture and local point electroacupuncture on the pain scale in knee pain patients at Puskesmas Baki Sukoharjo. This means ear acupuncture therapy combined with knee infrared and local point electroacupuncture on knee pain cases showed significant results in reducing the pain scale (VAS) in patients at Puskesmas Baki Sukoharjo.

Abstract

Low back pain radiating to the legs, or radiculopathy, is a condition that involves multiple nerve roots, resulting in pain as well as motor and sensory disturbances. Electroacupuncture and auricular acupuncture are known to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines and stimulate the release of serotonin, norepinephrine, and endorphins, thereby accelerating the healing process of radiating low back pain. This study aimed to determine the effect of combined local-point electroacupuncture and auricular acupuncture therapy on changes in pain scale (NRS) and straight leg raise (SLR) among farmers with radiating low back pain at the Healthy Family Independent Acupuncture Practice, Kepahiang, Bengkulu. A quasi-experimental design with a two-group pre-test–post-test approach was employed, using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that the combination of electroacupuncture and auricular acupuncture significantly affected changes in pain scale and straight leg raise (SLR) (p <0.001). The average reduction in NRS was 3.3, while the average increase in SLR was 33%. In conclusion, combined local-point electroacupuncture and auricular acupuncture therapy significantly improved pain scale and straight leg raise (SLR) outcomes among farmers with radiating low back pain

Abstract

Low back pain is a musculoskeletal disorder caused by abnormalities or dysfunctions in the muscles and tendons, often triggered by excessive physical activity or work that demands high energy and muscle strength, thereby increasing the risk of musculoskeletal injury. This study aimed to determine the effect of acupuncture therapy combined with moxibustion on changes in pain scale among patients with low back pain in Mekarjaya Village, Indramayu Regency. Using a quasi-experimental design with two groups (pretest–posttest), 32 subjects were divided into an acupuncture-only group and an acupuncture plus moxibustion group. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. The results showed a significant decrease in NRS pain scores after the intervention in both groups (p < 0.050). The Mann–Whitney test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.001), with the combination therapy group showing a greater reduction in pain than the acupuncture-only group. Thus, acupuncture therapy combined with moxibustion is more effective than acupuncture therapy alone in reducing low back pain and may serve as an effective complementary approach for managing this condition.

Abstract

The desire to look young is commonly felt by middle-aged women as wrinkles appear, including in the smile line area. The increasing number of elderly people in Sukoharjo has an impact on the prevalence of skin aging problems. Acupuncture and aloe vera gel are known to improve skin elasticity, but there has been no research that combines the two for smile line wrinkles. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of aloe vera gel combination acupuncture therapy on the scale of wrinkles in the smile line. This study used a quantitative research type with a quasy-experimental research design with a two-group pretest posttest design. The sample consisted of 42 research subjects, divided into two groups, namely the acupuncture therapy group combined with aloe vera gel, and the acupuncture therapy group with 21 research subjects each. The results of the Independent T-Test from the data on changes in the scale of wrinkles in the smile line area obtained a p value> 0.05. This means that there is no significant difference in acupuncture therapy combined with aloe vera gel. So it can be concluded that both groups showed changes in the scale of wrinkles in the smile line area. Both groups showed effective results in reducing the scale of wrinkles in the smile line area, but there was no significant difference.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most significant health problems in the world. This condition is characterized by increased systolic and diastolic blood pressure that can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Treatment of hypertension generally uses anti-hypertensive drugs, but long-term use may cause side effects. This research is a quantitative research with a Quasi-Experimental design. The research subjects amounted to 40 people who were divided into two groups. Group I acupuncture therapy and group II acupuncture and cupping therapy. The results of data analysis using the Mann-Whitney test obtained a p-value of 0.004. This shows that the p<0.05 value means that cupping combination acupuncture therapy is effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients in Simpang Luas Village, Sungai Are District, Ogan Komerig Regency, South Ulu.
