Abstract

Low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders among farmers in Indonesia. This is related to unergonomic work positions, such as prolonged bending. Local point electroacupuncture therapy and the Balance Method are widely used as alternative treatment methods to help reduce pain and improve the quality of life and well-being of farmers. This study aims to determine the effect of local point electroacupuncture with the Balance Method on the scale of low back pain in farmers and hunters in Karanglo Village, Klaten. This study uses a type of quantitative research, a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest design. namely comparing 2 groups given different interventions. The research was conducted by measuring the initial NRS before being given the intervention (Pretest) and measuring the NRS value after being given the intervention (Posttest) with a purposive sampling method. The number of samples used was 40 research subjects, divided into two groups, namely the Balance Method group and the local point electroacupuncture group of 20 research subjects each. The Mann-Whitney test results showed a significance value of p > 0.05. This means that there is no significant difference between the two groups. The Balance Method group changes from a scale of 6 to 1, and the local point electroacupuncture group from a scale of 5 to 1. Both groups showed changes in the low back pain scale. Both groups are influential in reducing the scale of low back pain in farmers and farm laborers in Karanglo Village, Klaten

Abstract

Stomach pain or dyspepsia is a digestive disorder characterized by epigastric pain, a feeling of fullness, nausea, vomiting, and frequent belching. Although often considered mild, this condition poses a risk of serious complications such as peptic ulcers, perforation, and even stomach cancer, which can significantly impact the quality of life. This study aims to determine the effect of acupuncture therapy combined with turmeric extract on changes in the stomach pain scale among students at Campus 1 Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta. The study employed a "Quasi-Experimental" design with a two-group pretest and posttest design. A total of 34 subjects were selected using purposive sampling and divided into two groups of 17 individuals each. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a significance level of p < 0.05, indicating a significant effect on changes in the stomach pain scale within each group. Meanwhile, the Mann-Whitney test results between the two groups yielded a significance value of p = 0.004. Since the p-value < 0.05, there is a meaningful difference between the two groups, which means that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. This indicates that acupuncture therapy combined with turmeric extract has a significant effect on changes in the stomach pain scale among students at Campus 1 of the Ministry of Health Polytechnic of Surakarta.

Abstract

Low back pain is a musculoskeletal disorder caused by unergonomic work postures, affecting pain scale and functional ability. Acupuncture and fire cupping therapy are known to effectively reduce pain and improve blood circulation. This study aims to determine the effect of the combination of both on changes in pain scale and BPFS in 36 subjects in Cluntang Village, Musuk District, Boyolali, from October 2024 to March 2025. Using a quasi- experimental method with a two-group pretest- posttest design (acupuncture combined with fire cupping and fire cupping alone), the Mann-Whitney test results showed a p value > 0.05, which means there is no significant difference between groups. In conclusion, both therapies were equally effective in reducing the pain scale and improving the functional ability of BPFS, although there was no significant difference between them.

Abstract

Hypertension is a primary cause of global premature mortality, with a significant burden in low- and middle-income countries where treatment access remains limited. This pre-experimental quantitative study investigated the effect of acupuncture therapy on blood pressure in hypertensive patients diagnosed with Middle Jiao dampness-phlegm accumulation syndrome. Employing a one-group pretest-posttest design, 20 subjects aged 30-40 were selected via purposive sampling at the Sumber Sehat Acupuncture Foundation in Bandung (March-June 2025). The intervention consisted of daily acupuncture sessions over six days. Blood pressure measurements were taken pre- and post-intervention. Pre-test results showed the highest systolic pressure was 139 mmHg and the lowest was 130 mmHg. Post-intervention, the highest systolic pressure decreased to 130 mmHg and the lowest to 120 mmHg. Diastolic pressure also declined from a pre-intervention high of 89 mmHg to a post-intervention high of 85 mmHg. Statistical analysis using the Paired Sample T-Test confirmed a significant difference between pre- and post-intervention measurements (p-value < 0.05), with a mean systolic reduction of 9.50 mmHg and a mean diastolic reduction of 4.55 mmHg. It is concluded that acupuncture therapy significantly influences blood pressure, demonstrating a statistically meaningful effect in patients with this specific syndrome.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders experienced by many people and is a leading cause of decreased work productivity. To determine the effect of Balance Method acupuncture and local point acupuncture therapy on reducing the low back pain scale at Sehat Bugar Acupuncture Bandung. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a Pretest-Posttest Two Group Design. The total sample consisted of 30 respondents divided into two groups: the Balance Method therapy group and the local point therapy group. Each respondent received five acupuncture sessions with a frequency of twice per week. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after treatment. Data were analyzed using the Independent Sample T-test. The results showed a significant decrease in pain scale in both groups (p < 0.050). This shows that both Balance Method and local point acupuncture therapies are effective in reducing low back pain scale, but the Balance Method therapy provides more optimal results.

Abstract

Knee pain was frequently experienced by runners due to repetitive activities. Electroacupuncture (EA) and fire cupping (FC) were non-pharmacological methods commonly used for knee pain management; however, comparative evidence regarding their effectiveness remained limited. This study aimed to analyze the differences in effectiveness between EA and FC in reducing knee pain among runners of the Seliwerun Running Club, Bandung City. A quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest design was conducted. A total of 30 runners were divided into EA and FC groups (n = 15 each). The interventions were administered six times over three weeks. Knee pain was measured using the WOMAC questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample t-test and Independent Sample t-test. The Paired Sample t-test showed that both groups experienced a significant reduction in WOMAC scores (p < 0.001) (EA: mean 34.33 ± 2.55, t = 52.061; FC: mean 29.40 ± 2.23, t = 51.068). The mean reduction in WOMAC score in the EA group (34.33) was greater than that in the FC group (29.40). The Independent Sample t-test indicated a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.001, t = –9.185, mean difference = –4.600), with a reduction difference of 4.93. Electroacupuncture was more effective than fire cupping in reducing knee pain among runners.

Abstract

Knee pain is a common complaint in adults and the elderly. Treatment for osteoarthritis patients includes non-pharmacological, pharmacological, and surgical therapies. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used, but NSAIDs cause side effects on the gastrointestinal and cardiovascular systems, limiting their use among patients with OAC. One such non-pharmacological therapy is acupuncture and ear acupuncture. To determine the difference in effectiveness between local acupuncture and ear acupuncture on the WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index) score of knee pain patients at Sehat Bugar Akupunktur, Bandung. A quasi-experimental study design with a two-group pre- and post-test design was used. A sample of 38 individuals experiencing knee pain who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria was divided into two treatment groups of 19 individuals each. The first group received local acupuncture, and the second group received ear acupuncture. The intervention was carried out 10 times twice a week, for five weeks. Pain was assessed using the WOMAC questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests at a significance level of 0.05. Both local acupuncture and ear acupuncture have been shown to reduce WOMAC scores, but there was no significant difference between the two.
