Abstract

This study aims to examine the interpretation of da'wah verses in the Qur'an that contain the word “دعا” (pray, call, call out). The word “دعا” has a broad meaning in the Qur'an, including the call to pray to Allah as a form of worship and obedience. Using the approaches of comparative tafsir, wujuh wan nadhoir, and toshihiko izutsu semantics, this study identifies and analyzes relevant verses, as well as tracing the interpretations of classical and contemporary scholars regarding the use of the word “دعا”. The results show that the word “دعا” not only describes supplication and hope to Allah, but also includes deep spiritual aspects in the context of da'wah. Prayer in these verses serves as a means of communication with Allah, confirmation of faith, and as a call for good and a warning against evil. This study highlights the importance of understanding the meaning of supplication in da'wah to increase the effectiveness of the message conveyed and strengthen the spiritual connection with Allah. This study also shows that the interpretation of da'wah verses that use the word “دعا” provides comprehensive guidance for Muslims to be more solemn in every prayer.

Abstract

This study addresses a research gap in the linguistic and semantic analysis of the word "nadhir" in the Qur'an. While previous research has explored the term's theological implications, there is limited comprehensive analysis of its lexical, syntactic, and contextual variations across different Qur'anic verses. This research employs a linguistic approach, focusing on lexicon and syntax to examine the usage of "nadhir" in the Qur'an. The study systematically analyzes key Qur'anic verses using interpretative frameworks from classical and modern tafsir (exegesis). The findings reveal that the word "nadhir" functions in multiple capacities: as a divine warning of punishment, a reminder of moral accountability, and a call for spiritual vigilance. The analysis also underscores the connection between "nadhir" and the prophetic mission, highlighting its role in communicating divine mercy and justice. Furthermore, the research identifies variations in how the term is framed grammatically and semantically within different contexts, enhancing the understanding of its multifaceted role in Islamic discourse. The study's significance lies in its contribution to Qur'anic linguistic studies by providing a systematic examination of the word "nadhir". It enriches the academic discourse on Qur'anic semantics and offers insights relevant to contemporary da'wah practices. This research also lays the foundation for future interdisciplinary studies exploring the intersection of linguistics, theology, and religious communication.

Abstract

This study examines the semantic meanings of the words نذير (nadhir) and ينذر (yunzir) in the Qur'an, which mean "a warner" and "to warn," derived from the root ن-ذ-ر. The Research Gap lies in the lack of a comprehensive analysis comparing the semantic meanings of these terms through syntagmatic, paradigmatic approaches, and tafsir comparison. The Research Method employs a semantic approach encompassing morphological analysis, the contextual use of these terms in the Qur'an, and a comparative study of two major exegeses: Tafsir As-Sa'di and Shafwatut Tafasir. Data were collected from relevant Qur'anic verses, supported by classical and contemporary tafsir literature and other academic references. The Research Findings reveal that Tafsir As-Sa'di emphasizes Allah’s mercy in the warnings as an act of compassion to save humanity from punishment, while Shafwatut Tafasir by Ash-Shobuni focuses on the aspect of threat as a form of divine justice. The Significance of this study lies in its contribution to expanding the understanding of Qur'anic warnings through in-depth semantic analysis, providing new insights into Islamic preaching (dakwah) and Qur'anic studies.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct bibliometric analysis related to the interpretation of the Qur'an and science. Bibliometric analysis techniques are used to search all publications indexed in the scopus database and the data obtained are analyzed using excel, R-studio and VOSviewer. This research method involves searching and analyzing scientific articles related to the interpretation of the Qur'an and science such as, keywords, number of publications per year, main data information, number of citations, prolific researchers, and place of publication related to this study, to provide an understanding of the development and impact of research in this field. The results of the bibiometric analysis show that the interpretation of the Qur'an and science has become an increasing subject of research in recent years as well as a significant increase in the number of publications in this field. The limitation of this study is that it only takes datasets or meta data of publications indexed in Scopus. Other national and international databases were not considered in this study. This study presents a brief overview of the literature accessible to researchers and provides recommendations for future research.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the concept of ‘nafs’ in the Qur'an, both historically and theologically, and understand its relevance in modern life. The research uses a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach, with syntagmatic and paradigmatic analyses of relevant Qur'anic verses, as well as classical and contemporary literature studies. The results show that ‘nafs’ covers the physical, moral, and spiritual dimensions of human beings, with the main classifications: nafs al-ammārah (a soul inclined to evil), nafs al-lawwāmah (a self-deprecating soul), and nafs al-mutma'innah (a serene soul). The transformation of the meaning of ‘nafs’ from the pre-Qur'anic to the post-Qur'anic period reflects the human journey towards purification of the soul (tazkiyah) which contributes to the formation of individual character and social harmony. In the modern context, the understanding of ‘nafs’ has significant relevance in education, Islamic psychology and individual moral development. The research concludes that the purification of the soul is central to the Qur'anic worldview, making the ‘nafs’ the centre of moral and spiritual responsibility, which has a direct impact on the justice and balance of society.
