Abstract

All religious people yearn to live in peace in a multi-religious and belief community. However, harmony and harmony between religious communities can be realized by mutual respect for tolerance. Without tolerance, inter-religious harmony is difficult to occur. So tolerance is a condition for the realization of harmony itself. This study aims to find out about the principle of inter-religious tolerance in Surat al-Kafirun according to the interpretation of Hamka and Quraish Shihab. This type of research is library research. The method used is descriptive comparative analysis method. The approach used is a descriptive, interpretative, and comparative approach. The result of this study is that there is a common opinion between Hamka and Quraish Shihab regarding the principle of inter-religious tolerance, namely that it is impossible to combine Islam with other religions. And every religion can carry out worship according to beliefs and there is no compulsion to believe in each other's teachings. Meanwhile, the difference lies only in the delivery and the way of explaining the interpretation of each mufassir. In Hamka's commentary on al-Azhar, al-Kafirun's letter is explained more concisely and Hamka refers to the interpretations of other scholars such as Al-Qurthubi, Sheikh Muhammad Abduh, and Ibn Kathir. Whereas Quraish Shihab explains the letter al-Kafirun in the book of interpretation of al-Misbah more thoroughly, Quraish Shihab includes another verse in the Qur'an which has the same content as the letter al-Kafirun to explain further the meaning of the letter al-Kafirun, as well as in his interpretation Quraish Shihab also explains the position of the words from sura al-Kafirun to find out the different meanings of each verse.

Abstract

In this modern era, the Islamic religion is faced with various kinds of complex problems. The values of the Islamic religion have begun to fade and religious rules are put aside in order to fulfill one's desires. Secularism is a phenomenon that comes from evidence of humanity's distance from Islamic teachings. The perpetrators of secularism do things that are deviant for the good of their world so that their desires are fulfilled while religious values are not adhered to. This also happened during the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, when the world became their goal and they underestimated the affairs of the afterlife. The aim of this paper is to understand the concept of secularism in the verses of the Koran using a Maudhu'i interpretation approach. The method used is a qualitative method using literature review. There are several verses in the Qur'an that discuss secularism, namely Q.S Al-Baqarah verses 85-86, Q.S Hud verses 15-16 and Q.S Al Isra verse 18, at-Tin verse 4, ar-Rum verse 30, and an-Nisa verse 119. As a form of interpretation using a maudhu'i approach, the researcher also discusses asbab al-nuzul, munasabah and language rules as a complement to the interpretation. Beside that, it also mentions the phenomena of secularism in the modern era such as plastic surgery and sex change. The results of the research explain that secularism is an ideology that is contrary to Islam. Where this concept separates religious involvement in worldly matters and leding to atheisme in the end.

Abstract

Religious moderation is a concept that is rooted in the word "moderate," which means to be in the middle, not excessive, and not lacking. In the context of Islam, this moderation is known as "Wasatiyah Islam," which prioritizes the principles of justice, balance, and equality. This concept is reflected in the Qur'an, especially in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 143, which emphasizes the importance of being a people who are in a middle, just, and balanced position. This research aims to explore the core values of religious moderation, including tolerance (tasamuh), justice (i'tidal), balance (tawazzun), and equality, as well as how these values are internalized through education and social practice. In addition, this study also analyzes the challenges in implementing the principles of religious moderation in Indonesia, including geopolitical influences and socio-religious dynamics influenced by globalization. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to strengthening the narrative of Islam Wasatiyah as a strategy to prevent extremism and maintain religious harmony in Indonesia.
