Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effect implementation listening while reading (LWR) strategy to enhance student’s reading fluency and comprehension of the seventh grade students at SMP Y.P Keluarga Pematangsiantar in the academic year 2021/2022. This research used quantitative approach with true experimental design. The data were obtained by using pre-test and post-test. The data of the pre-test and post- test of both groups were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics (SPSS 26.0). the data to be analyzed are frequency, statistic, normality, homogeneity and hypothesis testing. The result of the research shows that the testing hypothesis of post-test scores, it is found that Tcount =5.663 > Ttable = 1.699 at the significance level a = 0.05 and degrees of freedom (df) = 29. So, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that, the implementation of LWR effect significantly on students' reading fluency and comprehension abilities at seventh grade of Y.P. Keluarga Pematangsiantar in academic year 2021/2022

Abstract

In this study, we aim to compare the quality of digital and manual translation in English texts for the English Language Education Program. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each translation method can help educators improve their teaching strategies and provide better learning outcomes for students. Thus, the research will be guided t the student using in translation between digital and manual translation in English texts for the English Language Education program and the quality of digital and manual translation. , digital translation tools may not capture the nuances and cultural aspects of language that are essential in language learning and communication (Zarei & Gholami, 2020). Manual translation provides a more accurate and nuanced translation than digital tools, as it takes into account context and cultural nuances (Ferraresi & Bernardini, 2019). This study employs a qualitative approach with a comparative method between two translation techniques digital and manual. Data is collected from an abstract of an article with “Pentingnya Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Sekolah Menengah” with the original text Bahasa Indonesia then translate it to English language using digital and manual translation. In general, however, studies comparing digital (machine) translation and manual (human) translation in the field of language education have found that while machine translation tools like Google Translate can be helpful for quick and basic translations, they often lack accuracy and precision, particularly in complex or nuanced language tasks.

Abstract

This thesis is about the implementation of Students Teams Achievement Division (STAD) technique in reading comprehension. The aim of the research is to solve the students’ problems in reading comprehension by implement STAD technique. The researcher used Slavin theory of process STAD technique in the classroom such as teaching materials, assigning students to teams, determining base score and team building. In this thesis, the problem of the study justified as “Is Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) technique appropriate to implement in Reading Comprehension at Grade Ten of SMK Negeri 1 Tebing Tinggi?” This thesis is descriptive quantitative study design, to describe the implementation of STAD technique in reading comprehension. The subject of this study was at grade ten students of SMA Negeri 1 Tebing Tinggi. X Adkl 2 which consist 39 students. The instrument of study ate test and questionnaire. To collect the data, the researcher implement STAD technique in the class through the process. Then giving the test to see the students’ achievement. The last was giving the questionnaire to see the students’ reponse towards the implementation of STAD technique. Based on the research finding, it states that the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) technique was implemented well in teaching learning process from teaching materials, assigning students to teams, determining base score and team building. Then the students’ result of test showed that the mean of students’ score was 76.79. This means that the result passed the minimum criterion of school is 76. The last, from the students’ response towards the STAD technique the STAD technique through questionnaire was 89.69% of students gave good response. From these findings, it states that student teams achievement division (stad) technique was appropriate to implement in reading comprehension at grade ten of SMK Negeri 1 Tebing Tinggi.

Abstract

This research was aimed at investigating the implementation of word webbing technique in writing ability. A true experimental design was employed with two classes of the seventh grade at SMP SWASTA GKPS 3 PEMATANGSIANTAR in the academic year of 2021/2022,this research was conducted on june 2022.This research was classified as a true-experimental study. It involved 24 students from two groups, class VII-2 (12 students) as the experimental group and class VII-1(12 students) as the control group. The experimental group was students taugh using Word Webbing technique whereas the control group and students taught using conventional technique.The data were obtained by using pre-test and post-test. The findings were analyzed by using topic text and inferential statistic (SPSS 22.0). The statistical computation showed that webbing technique was likely effective in improving the students’ writing skill in News Item text (value of tcount 6,13>value of ttable1,79). Furthermore, the students´ perception towards webbing technique is 93,7% students agree that this technique could help them to increase their writing skill. Designing the learning purpose appropriately which considers students’ needs and language level may ease teachers to use the webbing technique in improving students’ writing News Item text. The teachers may try to take advantage of webbing technique to be utilized in their classroom activities to conduct an effective and interesting learning atmosphere in the classroom

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out whether the implementation of Engage, Study, Active (ESA) method effective to improve the students speaking ability at the eighth of SMP Negeri 4 Pematangsaintar academic year of 2022/2023. This research used quantitative approach with true-experimental design. The data were obtained by using pre-test and post-test. The data of pre-test and post-test of both groups were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics (SPSS 21). The result of the research shows that the hypothesis testing tcount = 2.777 > ttable = 1.697 at the significant level α = 0.05 with degrees of freedom (df) = 60, it means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. So, the implementation of ESA (Engage, Study, Active) Method affects significantly on students speaking ability at the eight grade of SMP N 4 Pematangsiantar academic year of 2022/2023

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find the teacher’s strategy in teaching reading comprehension at SMP Mardi Wiyata Utama Gunung Bayu in the academic year 2022/2023. This research used qualitative approach and the research used obseravation, questionnaire, recording, and interview as the method of collecting data. The objective of this research is to know the the English teacher’s strategies in teaching reading. the result of research is the english teacher impementing three strategies in teaching reading. They are scaffolding, and qars, (Question and Answer Relationship). Based on the observation, recording, interview, and the data of questionnaire show that the english teacher implement all the strategies in teaching reading. Moreover, the data from questionnaire revealed that most of the students agree that the english teacher has good ability in teaching reading by using those strategy

Abstract

The problem of this research is not optimal yet the employees of the branch of siantar education authorities north sumatera province presumably is still not optimal the technical of education and training that who have attended by employees so that it can influence toward competence of the apparatus branch of Siantar Education Authorities North Sumatera Province.The objective of this research is to get how much influence the technical of education and training toward the competence of the apparatus branch of Siantar Education Authorities north sumatera province and to get the new concept about technical education and training, and also the competence of employees.The methodology that used is qualitative method with the kind of Descriptive research. The population of this research is all the employees the branch of siantar education authrorities north sumatera province who have attended technical training in accordance with their field of work. The Analyzing of the data in this research is path analysis to explain the direct and indirect influence from each variable. The dependent variable in this research is variable of the technical education and training, and independent variable is the competence of employees. The result of this research is describing the technical education and training gave the significant influence toward the employees competence. The result of statistic calculation to show that the technical of education and training as simultaneous or partial effect toward apparatus of the branch of siantar education authorities north sumatera province and the other effect is not researched yet. Because of that, to improve apparatus competency need effective the technical education and training and accordance with work needed employees working. The finding of this research is to develop concept that the success of technical education and training by understanding, content, learning aids, practicable, feedback, interaction, and coordinated, when recruiting employees to attend technical training, it is carried out with a needs assessment system.

Abstract

Grammar error is one of the difficulties experienced by students in the writing process. This study conducted in order to investigate the grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made by the students of English Department of FKIP USI. This research aimed to know the grammatical errors that happen in writing class made by students of the second semester. In this study, the writer used Qualitative analysis, while the general pattern or the research design used by the researcher is a case study. This study found that the students make the grammatical error in writing descriptive text. Population taken in second semester of English student department. Purposive sampling is used in taking sample from the population. The researcher uses document papers as the instrument. The finding of this study showed that there are 6 types of grammatical error found namely: tenses, preposition, articles, voices, morphological, and verbs errors; the dominant grammatical error found is tense errors which has total occurrences of 75 (26.31%) specifically the use of past tense; the reason why students‟ made dominant error in using specifically past tense is the students‟ are lack of understanding the linguistic features of descriptive text. Based on the result, it is figured out that the students still have difficulties in applying grammatical structures in writing. In order to avoid the students in making another grammatical error, the researcher has suggested taking out remediation based on each problematic area of grammatical error categories

Abstract

The researcher intends to conduct a study to examine advertisement banners that have an error in translating or modifying the word from source language to target language. the research is to investigate the many sorts of translation errors in advertisement banners. The study concentrated on the incorrect translation of source language to target language that occurred in advertising. This research is classified as Descriptive Qualitative Research. Qualitative research is a descriptive method in which data is collected in the form of written or spoken words. The data was collected from 20 public signs in Medan by the researcher. These public signs display the name of the service to the public. After assessment the data, it was discovered that translation error is 70% in spelling mistakes, 10% in grammatical errors, 15% in vocabulary misspellings, and 5% in punctuation. The greatest percentage is found in spelling errors. In the interview section, spelling mistakes and vocabulary misspellings occurred because they did not know how to produce the correct word due to a lack of vocabulary in English. Grammatical errors occurred because they did not know how to arrange the words correctly, and punctuation is the lowest error since it is not difficult to know how to apply proper punctuation in text
