Abstract

This study is focus on the effect of using discussion method in students’ speaking abilility at the tenth grade students of SMK Swasta HKBP Pematangsiantar. According to Schmuck, Discussion Method is a strategy for achieving instructional objectives that involves a group of persons, usually in the roles of moderator and participant, who communicate with each other using speaking, nonverbal, and listening processes.The populations in this study are 80 students of 3 classes. The choosing of sample is done by using purposive sampling thus gotten the sample as big as 52 students ( 2 classses)The data analysis is done by counting the Mean (????̅) and the Standart Deviation (S) and the hypothesis will be proved by testing the significant of coleration statistic students or testing-t . The Mean of Pre Test Experimen Class is 3,78 and the Mean of Post Test Experiment Class is 8,05. The Mean of Pre Test Control Class is 3,74 and the Mean of Post Test Control Class is 6,55.The testing of hypothesis for pre test between experiment class and control class is gotten ????ℎ????????????????????(2,45 ) < ???????????????????????? (7,14). So ????0 is received and ???????? is rejected, it means that there is any effect of using discussion method in students’ speaking ability.

Abstract

Pengabdian  ini  menganalisis   kesulitan   belajar   bahasa   Inggris   siswa SMP Swasta Alwasliyah 40 Bandar Huluan. Fokus Pengabdianini adalah menemukan kesulitan siswa dalam menguasai kompetensi bahasa Inggris siswa SMP Swasta Alwasliyah 40 Bandar Huluan. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan individual dalam mengumpulkan data kualitatif .  Prosedur  yang  digunakan melalui pemanfaatan Media dan Strategi pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran.   Data  dianalisis  dengan  menggunakan pre – test dan post test,  yaitu: (1)  eksplorasi  pada  kedua  proses  belajar  siswa  dan  hasilnya;  (2) menganalisis hasil eksplorasi melalui wawancara dengan siswa. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa kesulitan siswa belajar bahasa Inggris: (1) rasa dipaksa; (2) penguasaan rendah pada konsep dasar / intake; (3) kurang dukungan dari lingkungan mereka; (4) memiliki lebih sedikit kesempatan untuk berlatih.  Sehubungan  dengan  temuan  tersebut,  disarankan  agar guru dan  sekolah harus  memfasilitasi  dan  memberikan  motivasi  tinggi  untuk  proses  belajar  bahasa Inggris siswa mereka.

Abstract

This research is focused on the ability of the students in translating a recount text by using translating strategies at the first grade students of SMA Swasta Yayasan Perguruan Keluarga (YPK) Pematangsiantar. This study tries to find out: 1) The translation strategy that are used by the students in the translating of a recount text; 2) The  translation  strategy  that  is  mostly  used  by  the  students  in  the translating of a recount text; 3) The  students’  perception  towards  the  translating  tasks  as  an  alternative task to enhance their reading habit and vocabulary. From the data analysis it can be concluded that: 1) In translating  the  recount text entitled Borobudur, especially  in dealing with  certain  words,  the  students  employ  ten  translation strategy.  These strategies are taken from the Newmarks’ translation strategy (1988:  81-93).  The strategies  which  are applied by the  students in  this  study  are  the transference  strategy,  the  naturalization  strategy,  the  cultural  equivalent strategy,  the  shift  or  transposition  strategy,  the  modulation  strategy,  the recognized  translation  strategy,  the  compensation  strategy,  the  expansion strategy, the couplets strategy, and the triplets strategy; 2) The  cultural  equivalent  strategy  is  the  one  which  is  mostly  used  by  the students  in  translating  the  text.  Based  on  Newmark  (1988:  82-83),  this  strategy  is  commonly found in translating popular fiction texts; 3) The  students’  perception towards  the translating  tasks  which are  given by their  teacher  is  that  the  translating  tasks  can  help  them  enhance  their reading  habit  and  increase  their  vocabulary.  The  reason  behind  this perception  is because  they  admit that they even do not  read  English  texts unless  their  teacher  has them  do  so.  In  this  case,  it  is  obviously seen  that the  students  agree  that  the  translating  task  is  an  alternative  task  to  make them  read  English  texts.  Although  in  the  reality  translating  task  is neglected  by  many  educators,  since  it  is  included  into  one  of  the characteristics of the Grammar Translation  method  which  is assumed only to  focus  on  knowing  grammar rules, remember  vocabularies, and produce a good translation of target language.

Abstract

This research is focused on a correlation between students’ rewriting of the story in film and t heir vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMP Taman Siswa Pematangsiantar. The problem of this study is: ‘Is there any correlation between students’ rewriting of the story in film and their vocabulary mastery?’ The objective of this study are: 1) To examine whether there is  a  significant  correlation  between  students’ rewriting of the story in film and their vocabulary mastery; 2) To  find  out  the  contribution  of  watching  film  in  improving  students’ rewriting of the story in film and their vocabulary mastery.  From the data anlysis it can be concluded that: 1) above it can be concluded that the average score of that students’ rewriting of ¬ the story in film variable (X) is 67, 56 (4054: 60). Six students (10%) get excellent level, 13 students (21,6%) get very good, 13 students (21,6%) get good, 8 students (13,33%) get fair, 11 students (18,33%) get poor and 9 students (15%) get very poor; 2) The average score of the students’ ability in writing recount text is 71, 52 (4291: 60). Five students (8,33%) get excellent level, 11 students (18,33 %) get very good, 20 students ( 33,3 %) get good, 14 students ( 23,3 %) get fair, 7 students ( 11,6 %) get poor and 3 students (5 %) get very poor; 3) There is a significant correlation between students’ rewriting of  the story in film variable (X) and the vocabulary mastery variable (Y). This result is obtained from the computation of the correlation between students’ rewriting of the story in film variable (X) and the vocabulary mastery variable (Y) applied to the sample is 0.338 (from the calculation). The critical value of the Pearson r with the 5 % significant level is 0.211 (From the table of statistical book). It means that the result obtained from the computation is greater than its critical value. Therefore, I conclude that the correlation between the two variables above is highly significant.

Abstract

This resaerch is focused on the effectiveness of U-Shape seating arrangement strategy for discussion in speaking class at teh first grade students of SLTP Negeri 2 Pematang Raya. The Problem of this research are: 1) How does the teacher implement U-Shape seating arrangement for discussion in speaking class of the first grade students at SLTP Negeri 2 Pematang Raya? ; 2) Is U-Shape seating arrangement effective for discussion in speaking class of the first grade students at SLTP Negeri 2 Pematang Raya? : 3) What are the students’ responses toward U-Shape seating arrangement for discussion? The objective of this research are: 1) To describe implementation of U-Shape seating arrangement for discussion in speaking class of the first grade students at SLTP Negeri 2 Pematang Raya; 2) To analyze the effectiveness of U-Shape seating arrangement for discussion in speaking class of the first grade students at SLTP Negeri 2 Pematang Raya; 3) To know the students’ responses toward U-Shape seating arrangement for discussion. From the data anaysis it can be concluded that : 1)  The teacher uses her strategy to implement U-shape seating arrangement for discussion in speaking class of the first grade students at SLTP Negeri 2 Pematang Raya. U-shape seating arrangement is effective for discussion due to some proofs. First, U-shape seating arrangement helps the teacher leading the discussion well. The teacher can clearly give instruction to the students, easily monitor the students, and easily interact with the students during discussion in U-shape seating arrangement on the first day  and second day observation; 2) The students show good responses toward U-shape seating arrangement for discussion. 55.56% of number of the students state that they like implementing U-shape seating arrangement for discussion, and 22.22% of number of the student’s state that they like implementing U-shape seating arrangement for discussion very much. Besides, 51.85% of the students state that they feel comfortable with U-shape seating arrangement for discussion, and 33.33% of them state that they feel much comfortable.

Abstract

This research objective is to find out the student’s ability in reading comprehension by using CIRC. The population was the first grade students of SMP Swasta Cinta Rakyat 1 Melanthon Siregar Pematangsiantar.The research design was used classroom action research. To collect the data, the researcher uses test that consist of pre test and post test that is formed of multiple choice. In analyzing the data the researcher uses theory from Harris, A. J (1984) and Arikunto, S (2007). Based on analyzing the data, the researcher found that mean score of the students in pre-test is 40,66 and mean score from post test is 73,33. From the score in pre test and post test, the researcher can seen the significant improvement score of the students. Based on the result of the research, the researcher can suggest that the CIRC method is the effective method to teach reading especially in reading comprehension a text.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini menganalisis kesulitan belajar bahasa Inggris siswa SMA Negeri 1 Narumonda Siantar, kabupaten TOBASA. Fokus pengabdian ini adalah menemukan kesulitan siswa dalam menguasai kompetensi bahasa Inggris. Pengabdian ini menggunakan pendekatan klasik dan individual dalam mengumpulkan data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Prosedur yang digunakan konteks, input, proses, dan produk / CIPP-Model Evaluasi untuk manfaatnya untuk meningkatkan kualitas pengajaran. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan McDonough & McDonough Model, yaitu .: (1) eksplorasi pada kedua proses belajar siswa dan hasilnya; (2) menganalisis hasil eksplorasi melalui kuesioner, wawancara dengan siswa; (3) melakukan peer-debriefing, yaitu wawancara dengan guru lain yang terkait dengan, metode, konten silabus, apakah mereka telah sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa siswa belajar bahasa Inggris kesulitan untuk: (1) rasa dipaksa; (2) penguasaan rendah pada konsep dasar / intake; (3) kurang dukungan dari lingkungan mereka; (4) lupakan faktor; (5) memiliki lebahasa Inggrish sedikit kesempatan untuk berlatih. Sehubungan dengan temuan tersebut, disarankan agar guru dan lembaga harus memfasilitasi dan memberikan motivasi tinggi untuk proses belajar bahasa Inggris siswa mereka.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kreativitas guru dalam mengelola kelas untuk mengatasi kejenuhan belajar di SMA Negeri 1 Siantar Narumonda Kab. Toba, dan juga untuk mengetahui gejala kejenuhan belajar yang dihadapi oleh siswa. Jenis pengabdian masyarakat ini merupakan pengabdian lapangan dengan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus. Subyek pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah 4 guru dan juga 36 siswa yang diambil secara acak (random). Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Adapun hasil pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa kreativitas guru dalam mengelola kelas untuk mengatasi kejenuhan belajar siswa di SMA Negeri 1 Siantar Narumonda Kab. Toba, yaitu: 1) pengecekan situasi dan kondisi siswa guna untuk memahami dan memastikan bahwa para siswa nyaman dan senang dalam mengikuti pembelajaran, 2) guru juga memanfaatkan media pembelajaran dengan baik dalam pembelajaran, 3) guru menata lingkungan belajar dengan baik, 4) mengembangkan strategi pengajaran, 5) dan strategi pemberian motivasi. Pengabdian ini dapat memberikan sumbangsi kepada guru-guru untuk meninjau ulang kembali terhadap keadaan dan kondisi yang dialami siswa saat kegiatan belajar mengajar sedang berlangsung dalam menangani kelas.

Abstract

Teacher is a professional job. To be able to carry out this task properly, apart from having to meet the requirements of maturity, being physically and mentally healthy, teachers must also have teacher knowledge and skills. In order to be able to convey the knowledge or field of study he teaches, he must master the science or field of study he teaches, the same is the case with teachers who teach in high school classes at the elementary school level. The teacher must have a role in teaching integrative thematic subjects in increasing the understanding and learning outcomes of high school students. This study aims to describe the teacher's role in Integrative Thematic learning, Analyze supporting and inhibiting factors for the teacher's role in Integrative Thematic learning to improve understanding and learning outcomes of high-class students at SD Negeri 091301 Pematang Panei Simalungun Regency and Analyze student learning outcomes after optimizing the teacher's role in Integrative Thematic learning at SD Negeri 091301 Pematang Panei, Simalungun Regency. The approach that the author uses in this study is qualitative, the type of research is descriptive research analysis. The research location was SD Negeru 091301 Pematang Panei District. Collecting data using observation techniques, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique is by means of data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. Based on the results of research in the field The Role of the Teacher in Integrative Thematic Learning to Improve Understanding and Learning Outcomes of High Grade Students at SD Negeri 091301 Pematang Panei, Simalungun Regency, namely Using a Variety of Learning Methods, Being a Facilitator, Being a Motivator. Supporting and Inhibiting Factors of the Teacher's Role in Integrative Thematic Learning, namely complete teaching materials, available facilities and infrastructure used optimally, learning resources, the role of parents, the teacher himself. Methods Teaching Methods If Not Varied, Curriculum, and the application of discipline. that the analysis of student learning outcomes after optimizing the role of the teacher is getting better in the high class is getting better.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini adalah untuk mengetahui motivasi, inovasi dan kreativitas guru dalam mengelola kelas untuk mengatasi kejenuhan mengajar guru di PAUD KB Bandar Hinalang Kecamatan Purba, Kabupaten Simalungun dan juga untuk mengetahui gejala kejenuhan belajar yang dihadapi oleh siswa - siswa PAUD KB Bandar Hinalang, Kab Simalungun. Jenis pengabdian ini adalah pengabdian lapangan dengan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus. Subyek pengabdian ini adalah guru PAUD Se – Kecamatan Purba, Kab Simalungun. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Adapun hasil pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa motivasi,inovasi dan kreativitas guru dalam mengelola kelas untuk mengatasi kejenuhan guru mengajar di PAUD KB Bandar Hinalang Kecamatan Purba, Kab Simalungun ada tiga point temuan, yaitu:1) Guru memiliki persamaan dan perbedaan perilaku/karakter sehingga memiliki kemampuan dan metode mengajar yang berbeda, 2) Kesuksesan dalam mengajar tergantung pada motivasi guru, 3) guru harus inovatif dan kreatif dalam merancang media pembelajaran. Pengabdian ini dapat memberikan sumbangsi kepada guru-guru untuk meninjau ulang kembali motivasi, inovasi dan kreativitas guru dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar.
