Berkala Arkeologi
We are a journal on archaeology published by the National Research and Innovation Agency every May and November each year. This journal seek to promote and shares research results and ideas on archaeology to the public. We covers original research results, ideas, theories, or other scientific works from the discipline of Archaeology mainly in the Indonesian Archipelago and Southeast Asia. Interest from other disciplines (such as history, anthropology, architecture, geology, etc.) must be related to archaeological subject to be covered in this journal. Our first edition was published on March 1980.

Experimental works on a research and development of radiocarbon dating have been carried out. On this occasion several problems have to be concerned. These problems include a sampling technique. its handling in the laboratory, the existence of standard reference material contamination, isotopic fractionation , radiocarbon (14C) fluctuation, limitation of samples and data evaluation. In order to solve these problems. there have been established research which applied an improvement technique treatment techniques that regarded the caution of the problems. The experimental results on wood samples which washed and unwashed showed an age differences of 391 years from its true age of about 700 years ago. Delta 13C correction, due to the availability of isotopic fractionation. shows quite significant to be applied to sample having an age of under 30,000 years. A tree ring correction is a correction due to the existence of their previous radiocarbon dating fluctuation was also giving a correction that need to be studied by archaeologist . For that purpose, there was required a better handling better treatment of the samples.

As is well known, a cave area is limited, so it is interesting to study more deeply. It is hoped that the limited cave area can be used as a benchmark as a starting point in the study of settlement patterns with an approach through spatial archaeology. So far, research on cave settlement patterns has been carried out in the stage of determining the type of activity of the cave dwellers, which is focused on certain units of analysis such as artifacts and ecofacts contained in the cave. Meanwhile, research on the reconstruction of patterns and ways of life as well as the use of the available cave land has never been carried out. The patterns and models that were carried out and which were known to mankind at that time are interesting to be researched.

In the development that is being intensively carried out in Indonesia today, there are often conflicts of interest between sectors. Sectors that do not produce goods or services are often defeated in these conflicts. In such cases, many issues of preservation of archaeological resources are threatened. In fact, the problem of conflict that can threaten the preservation of archaeological resources will not occur if coordination, integration and synchronization between sectors are carried out optimally in programming. In addition, it is also felt that there is a lack of understanding of the legal aspects that govern matters of interest between sectors.

A juridical fact that is quite alarming occurred after Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 1992 concerning Cultural Conservation Objects was enacted on March 21, 1992. The juridical fact referred to is the fact that so far there has been a misconception, especially at the elite level of decision making in inemabami. nature of cultural heritage objects and sites. A concrete example is the Attachment to the Decree of the Director General of the Ministry of Education and Culture Number 0248 / Fl.IV / J.93 concerning Guidelines for Implementing Procedures for the Registration of Cultural Heritage Objects. Where in one of the forms is entitled Intangible Objects Inspection, but the content contained in it is about the site, with the editorial saying Site Serial Number and Site Name. Even though we know that theoretically and juridically, the essence of intangible cultural heritage objects is clearly not the same as the nature of a site.

In Babad Lasem, a shift in the center of activity was recorded, which was marked by the transfer of the palace from Kriyan to Bonang-Binangun and finally to Colegawan. Two central locations of activity, namely Bonang-Binangun and Colagawan, occurred during the growing influence of Islam in the northern coastal areas of Central Java and East Java. The two central locations for these activities are in the coastal area, namely in Bonang-Binangun and Caruban. It is possible to move the location of the center of activity to the coastal area due to the increasingly busy trade during the emergence of Demak as an Islamic kingdom in the coastal area.
