Abstract

The Ratu Boko (or Ratu Baka) plateau, near Yogyakarta in southern central Java, is surrounded by an impressive array of Hindu and Buddhist shrines. Notable among these are the Prambanan temples to the north, and Candi Kalasan to the west, with the massive Borobudur stupa 40 kilometres to the northwest, and the lofty volcanoes Merapi and Merbabu towering over the northern landscape. The presence of dynamic mountains and Buddhist monuments makes the Ratu Boko heights an ideal spot for locating the lost palace of the Sailendra 'mountain lords', though they may well have resided on the plain or in a northern port. However that may be, Ratu Boko was the site of the famous Sailendra monastery, Abhayagirivihara, which had links with Sri Lanka.

Abstract

The increasing role and participation of the community needs to be fostered through continuous effort without stopping in the long term. The efforts needed includes several stages, namely (Javanese): tepung (recognizing), dunung (knowing), srawung (understanding). At an early stage, the community needs to recognize (tepung) what is the potential for its natural and cultural resources. The next stage, the community needs to know (dunung) how to develop and utilize its potential. In the end, the community understands (srawung) and appreciates that the potential of natural and cultural resources that can be maintained and developed can provide benefits to their lives, increase material and spiritual well-being.

Abstract

On the post-modernist view that the "meaning" of an archaeological data depends on the interpretation of the interpreter to interpret it. This gap makes it possible to accommodate other views from various versions, so that there is no single interpretation. Likewise with the interpretation of the way the socialization of Islam is carried out in Java, it can be said to be radical and it can also be persuasive depending on the point of view of how one is viewed, the goals and intentions of the observer itself which also influence the "meaning" it creates.

Abstract

The Trowulan site in Mojokerto Regency, East Java, is one of the important sites that is utilized both ideologically, academically and economically at the same time. Since Wardenaar, who was assigned by Sir Thomas Raffles to observe ancient relics in Mojokerto, and in 1815 succeeded in making documents in the form of pictures and descriptions, the urge to research this site is getting bigger, even today. One of the striking results of the research is that the archeology is very closely related to the Majapahit Kingdom, the last Hindu work in Java which flourished from 1293 to 1478. In particular, the various scattered relics indicate that Trowulan was an ancient city. Not only that, other archaeological activities, namely conservation, are also being carried out to this day.

Abstract

Given the limited number of cultural resources (finite), non-renewable, non-movable, and fragile, the use of cultural resources must be oriented towards conservation. Therefore, in an effort to utilize cultural resources, it should be used with care. Then in terms of the development of cultural assets, we must also look at the value of various interests, so that the various conflicts of interest that exist can be suppressed as far as possible so that there is no attempt to defeat each other, but mutually beneficial.

Abstract

In order to seek national identity and to improve morals, one way can be referred to from the cultural heritage of our own ancestors through historical and archaeological sources (relief). One of the important aspects in the relief that needs to be developed and disseminated is mainly the stories of fables and symbols that are implied in the puppet reliefs. The story of the fable is very good for providing educational guidance to children and parents so that they have good character and refer to the noble roots of their ancestors.

Abstract

Each cave / rockshelters shows that the use of the cave land between Lawa Cave and Layah, Ngalen, and Sulur rockshelters shows a striking difference. It seems that the Lawa Cave in this community is used as the main cave, where all community activities take place. Meanwhile, the Layah, the Ngalen, and the Sulur rockshelters are used for supporting activities. This is based on a comparison of the excavation results between the Lawa Cave and the surrounding rockshelters. The findings of artifacts, ecofacts and features in the Lawa Cave varied more in quality and quantity compared to the surrounding recesses whose findings tended to be homogeneous in the form of lithic artifacts. In addition, based on the findings of artifacts in the Layah rockshelter, it shows that there is a development in their use. Initially (the lower layer) Layah was used as a stone tool workshop, then later (the upper layer) was dominated by the discovery of pottery. Meanwhile, the ecofac findings around the Lawa Cave tend to be minimal. It can be concluded that the pattern of the cave community in Sampung consists of a main cave with an ongoing cultural complexity and a supporting cave / rockshelter that is used for secondary activities.
