Abstract

Depression is a prevalent mental health disorder that significantly impacts both individual well-being and broader societal functioning. Socioeconomic disadvantage manifested through low income, limited educational attainment, and reduced access to mental health care has consistently emerged as a key risk factor for the development and persistence of depressive symptoms. In Indonesia, the mental health burden among low income populations remains under recognized and under treated. This case report details the clinical presentation of a 35-year-old woman diagnosed with major depressive disorder, originating from a low socioeconomic background. The patient experienced chronic psychological distress linked to financial instability, family rejection, and social stigma related to her informal digital employment. Data were collected through comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, including structured interviews, mental status examination, and physical assessment, in accordance with DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. The patient's symptoms marked by insomnia, anhedonia, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and psychosomatic complaints highlight the complex interplay between environmental hardship and mental health. Her case exemplifies how economic precarity and insufficient social support contribute to both emotional and physical deterioration. This report not only contributes to a deeper understanding of depression among socioeconomically marginalized individuals in Indonesia but also emphasizes the importance of culturally contextualized mental health strategies. It advocates for community based, low barrier interventions that incorporate psychosocial and economic dimensions. Ultimately, addressing mental health within low SES populations requires holistic approaches that extend beyond clinical treatment and include policy reforms focused on employment protection, social welfare, and anti-stigma efforts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how leadership, motivation, and discipline influence the performance of healthcare workers at Puskesmas Pattingalloan, Kabupaten Pinrang, Indonesia. Workforce performance is a key determinant of service quality, especially in rural and resource-limited contexts. Using a quantitative cross sectional design, data were collected from 98 health workers through validated Likert scale questionnaires and analyzed using chi square tests and ordinal logistic regression. The results show that leadership, motivation, and discipline significantly affect performance. Participative and communicative leadership styles were strongly linked to higher productivity and staff commitment. Health workers with high levels of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation were notably more consistent and effective in service delivery. Likewise, strong adherence to disciplinary standards, including punctuality and professional responsibility, correlated with improved performance and patient satisfaction. These findings reinforce existing theories on transformational leadership and motivational dynamics, especially within decentralized healthcare systems. This study offers valuable policy implications for strengthening human resource management at the primary care level. Integrating leadership development, sustainable motivation programs, and supportive disciplinary frameworks can foster a culture of accountability and efficiency. The insights generated contribute to the global discourse on healthcare workforce optimization and provide direction for future empirical studies.

Abstract

Introduction & Objective : This study analyzes the alarming rise in youth-onset type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Indonesia, focusing on lifestyle factors such as obesity, dietary habits, and physical inactivity, while assessing systemic gaps and policy responses to inform targeted intervention strategies. Methodology Summary : A descriptive epidemiological approach was employed, analyzing national health survey data, registry records, and relevant literature from 2010–2024. Key variables included prevalence rates, age specific incidence, dietary habits, physical activity, and obesity trends. The study also reviewed health system capacity and public policy frameworks. Key Results and Discussion : Results indicate that youth T2DM prevalence has reached 2.3% nationally, with adolescents aged 10–19, especially females, showing the highest increase. Primary contributors include obesity (urban youth obesity at 24%), poor nutrition, and reduced physical activity. Urban children were found to be significantly more affected than rural counterparts. Diagnostic infrastructure and pediatric diabetes care remain limited. Influences such as food advertising and weak regulatory frameworks further exacerbate the problem. International models demonstrate that integrated school, community, and healthcare strategies can mitigate risks. Digital tools and regulatory reforms are underutilized in Indonesia but present opportunities for scalable impact. Conclusion and Implications : To mitigate the projected surge in youth onset T2DM, Indonesia must urgently implement school-based screening, regulate unhealthy food advertising to minors, and improve pediatric diabetes care access particularly in underserved regions.

Abstract

Telehealth has emerged as a transformative solution in maternal and child health (MCH), particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This narrative review aims to synthesize recent innovations and identify systemic barriers that influence telehealth adoption in MCH contexts globally. Literature was sourced from PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, and Google Scholar, focusing on studies published in the past decade involving telehealth interventions targeting pregnant women, postpartum mothers, and children under five. Findings highlight that digital innovations such as mobile health applications, SMS reminders, and teleconsultations enhance antenatal care attendance, reduce perinatal mortality, and improve postpartum mental health and breastfeeding outcomes. However, significant challenges persist, including limited infrastructure, digital illiteracy, and socio-cultural resistance—especially in low- and middle-income countries. The review underscores the importance of inclusive policy frameworks, adequate funding, and healthcare workforce readiness in supporting equitable telehealth implementation. Future research should prioritize long-term impact evaluation and culturally tailored strategies to promote sustainable adoption.

Abstract

Smart hospitals represent a transformative model in healthcare, leveraging Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and blockchain to improve operational efficiency and patient safety. This narrative review synthesizes current literature on the implementation and impact of these technologies in hospital environments. The findings show that IoT integration reduces operational redundancies, enhances real-time patient monitoring, and supports predictive analytics to prevent clinical errors. Supporting technologies such as AI and blockchain strengthen data-driven decision-making and secure data management. However, challenges persist, including interoperability issues, cybersecurity risks, and disparities in adoption across regions. The review underscores the importance of policy frameworks, workforce readiness, and governance structures in enabling successful implementation. Future research should prioritize longitudinal and comparative studies to better evaluate the long-term effects of smart hospitals and promote equitable digital transformation in healthcare systems.
