Abstract

This study aimed at explaining the relationship, and effects of human capital, entrepreneurial business opportunities, institutional economics, and regional economic growth. It was carried out to develop fundamental microeconomic model in rural development to assist human capital roles and institutions as well as entrepreneurial business for the economic growth. Further, the researchers used simultaneous system method in form of a recursive correlational path analysis model. This modeling system provides simplicity and easy understanding. The main source of the data were the empirical micro fundamental data of the business doers in rural areas measured by Gini index ratio. The findings showed that human capital and institutions were the main pillars in improving the quality of regional economic growth. Interestingly, there was a strong relationship between business opportunities and economic growth. However, the business opportunities had significantly negative effect toward the regional economic growth. These indicate the existence of a disturbance outside the model, namely the presence of bank credit which apparently made the business doers suffered losses. In this way, there is a need to examine further the reasons why the bank credits given to MSMEs negatively effect the economic growth.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the preferences of low-income people in making housing tenure choices within the next 5 years. Each person has the right to have a place to live in. However, the options available for low-income people to own a home are limited. Therefore, information on the preferences of low-income people in purchasing houses needs to be identified so that the government can formulate effective and efficient intervention policies. A sample of 1030 samples was obtained using the stratification sampling method, of which 638 are households had rental status (taking households with the lowest level of welfare between 10-40%) in the Regency and City. Discrete choice models were used to determine the preferences in owning a home. The study revealed that demographic variables and household characteristics variables (household size and length of stay) had consistent negative relationships with preferences for buying a house in the future. Also, the government needs to take action so that the socialization of housing policy becomes more optimal, effective and targeted. The goal of the policy socialization should be directed to newly married couples.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the nature of deindustrialisation on Indonesia’s economy. To test the negative deindustrialisation, this research performed a descriptive analysis on value-added, export-import, and productivity data of manufacturing sector. To test the premature deindustrialisation, this research conducted a regression analysis to create a simulation of value of GDRP per capita at the top of industrialization taken place on Indonesia’s economy. Descriptive analysis shows that deindustrialization in Indonesia prevails with downward trend of value-added, trade performance, and productivity of manufacturing sector. Subsector analysis also shows that manufacturing subsectors having high value added experienced negative trend in all mentioned indicators. The result of premature deindustrialization model regression shows that the peak of industrialization in Indonesia achieved at lower level income per capita compared to several thresholds of premature deindustrialization. Those results show that negative and premature deindustrialisation prevailed in Indonesia’s economy. The consequence of these research’s results is to promote the politics of reindustrialization. There are several recommendations for policy makers to enhance performance of manufacturing sector. From demand-side, it is important to expand market of manufacturing product internationally and domestically. From supply side, the policy makers should increase the investments and insentives for businesses.
