Abstract

Abstract One of regency in West Sulawesi Province that has vast area of brackishwater ponds is Mamuju Regency. However, there is not yet information on pond management that conducted by farmers in Mamuju Regency. Hence, it was carried out a research that aim to know pond management factors that effect on the pond productivity in Mamuju Regency. Survey method that applied to find primary data and ponds production also pond management by means of questionnaires. The dependent variable in this research was total production, while the independent variables were pond management factors that consists of 30 variables. Multiple regressions with dummy variable were used to analyze the data in predicting total production. The results show that total production of brackishwater ponds in Mamuju Regency is 349.5 kg/ha/season in average. There are seven pond management variables that effect on total production in Mamuju Regency i.e. stocking density of milkfish, stocking density of tiger prawn, out-break disease, initial liming, duration of milkfish culture, initial pest control with teaseed and size of tiger prawn that stocked in the brackihswater pond. The total productivity of brackishwater pond can be increase through increasing dosage of initial liming, increasing duration of milkfish culture, increasing dosage of teaseed as initial pest control as well as increasing size of tiger prawn that stocked in the brackishwater ponds.

Abstract

AbstractKoi (Cyprinus carpio) is one of the most famous freshwater ornamental fish which offers financial advantage. There are a lot of factors which have to be face when we're trying to cultivate or culture Koi, one of those factors is the disease. Parasite which always in freshwater fishes is Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. I. multifiliis penetrated through skin causing destruction ephitelium cells by cilia and by consequent causing a histopathological changing. The objectives of this research was to determine alteration of Koi (Cyprinus carpio) skin histopathology which infested by I. multifiliis through cohabotation. Cohabitation was done during 4 days with mixing 7 fishes infected with white spot disease to 100 healthy fishes. Koi that had been infested observing of pathology changes. And than slicing the skin organ to prepare histopatology slide from 3 sample in every level infestation. To detect the level infestation, parasite was divide into 3 level respectivelly are low level (1-5 parasite/slide), the medium level (6-10 parasites/slide) and the heavy level (more than 11 parasites/slide). Furthermore, damage level determination by histopatology was decided by scoring. Data analyzed with descriptive based on clinical simptom, and than, the skin histopatology which had been attacked was done by scoring. The results would be analyzed statistical with Kruskal Wallis test. If it is show the significant defference, the test would be continued with Z test 5% (Siegel, 1986).   The research showed that the fish skin Koi infestation by I. multifiliis there was histopatology changed shaped respectivelly epidermis proliferation, infiltration of inflammation cell and ephithel erosion. Based on histopatological changed skoring caused by I. multifiliis infestation from various infestation grade, there were 62.2% of Koi fish skin was epidermis proliferasi, 73.3% of one was infiltration of inflammation cell and 28.9% ephithel erosion. Water quality measurement showed that temperature and acidity in normal condition, respectively otemperature between 24–26 C dan pH 8.

Abstract

Abstract Rapid developments on the coastal regions have become a major thread to mangrove ecosystems. The conversion of mangrove forest into fish ponds, housing and industrial sites make the area of this unique tropical ecosystem decline significantly in the last decade. To prevent further destruction of mangrove ecosystems due to human activities, conservation programs are needed. Therefore, information on mangrove's area as well as their distribution is needed. The main objective of this research was to demonstrate the ability of remote sensing and geographic information technology to provide reliable and accurate data on mangrove forest in Surabaya and thSidoarjo regions. A Landsat TM-5 imagery (acquisition date June 4 , 2009) data was utilized to produce the map. The results showed that in the 2009 period the area of mangrove forest in Surabaya and Sidoarjo was 378.19 Ha and 1236.42 Ha respectively. However, over 73.5% area of mangrove in Surabaya and 43.25% in Surabaya were under critical conditions. Anthropogenic factors and human influence were some of the main factors that cause the condition. Activities such as illegal and uncontrolled logging, conversion of mangrove's area and the lack of people's awareness in the importance of mangrove ecosystems were also problems that lead to the massive damage of mangrove forests.

Abstract

AbstractGracilaria cultivation is basically in need of lighting for photosynthesis process which will be a great effect on growth. The use of fluorescent (FL) as a replacement for the sun light is used for fluorescent lamps produce white light, except that fluorescent lights do not increase the room temperature drastically culture (temperature stable) and the intensity of light produced in the culture room suitable for the growth of shoots Gracilaria verrucosa. In addition to light intensity, while irradiation also affects the growth of cultured algae. Long exposures are generally set according to the needs of algae in natural conditions. In the process of photosynthesis is need a light and dark reaction. Light reaction occurs in the conversion of light energy into chemical energy and dark reactions occur for the formation of glucose that used for catabolism system. This study aims to determine the best long exposures of the different long exposures which can affect the growth and the amount of chlorophyll a of G. verrucosa. The methods is an experimental that used Complete Random Design (RAL) as the experimental design. The treatment used is different irradiation time, the treatment A (long irradiation for 24 hours, control), treatment B (irradiation time 12 hours light: 12 hours dark), treatment C (irradiation time 8 hours light: 16 hours dark) and D treatment (irradiation time 16 hours light: 8 hours dark) of each treatment is repeated five times. The main parameters were observed daily growth rate (%/day) and the amount of chlorophyll a (µg/ml) of G. verrucosa. Supporting the observed parameters are pH, temperature (ºC) and salinity (%o) The analysis data is using of variants analysis (ANOVA), if there is a difference data followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test to determine the best treatment. The results showed that different irradiation time take a real effect (P <0.05) on the growth and the amount of chlorophyll a G. verrucosa. Daily weight growth rate of the highest average found in treatment D (irradiation time 16hour light: 8-hours dark) of 0.62%/day, and the lowest in treatment A (24-hour long light irradiation) of 0.23%/day. The highest number of chlorophyll a average at the end of the study are in treatment D (irradiation time 16-hours light : 8 hours dark) of 0.0068 µg/ml and the lowest in treatment A (24-hour long light irradiation) of 0.0048 µg/ml. The increasing daily growth rate of G. verrucosa can used of the irradiation time 16-hours light : 8-hours dark.

Abstract

AbstractShrimp are susceptible to a wide variety of pathogens, one of each were viruses. Whitespot Baculovirus (WSBV) is one of virus attack in vannamei. Shrimp had been infected by WSBV will showed high mortality. One of Strategies for prophylaxis and control of WSBV is enhancement of disease resistant by using vaccines. Recently, quasi-immune response have been reported by which Penaeus japonicus surviving from WSBV infections possess a resistance against challenge WSBV (Venegas et al., 2000). This study was used Lithopenaeus vannamei that been vaccination with inactived-formaline WSBV virus cell or it called Whole Cell Killed Virus (WCKV) to know its responses to WSBV. The aim of this study was to know the effect Whole Cell Killed Virus vaccine to survival rate vannamei shrimp (Lithopenaeus vannamei) infected by Whitespot Baculovirus (WSBV). This study used descriptive study. The efficacy of vaccines made of inactivated WSSV with different dose. The dose are P1 (dose 0,01µg/ml each shrimp), P2 (dose 0,02 µg/ml each shrimp), P3 (dose 0,03 µg/ml each shrimp) dan P4 (non-vaccine (kontrol) injected by PBS). Primary parameter was survival rate (%). Secondary parameter was water quality which of temperature, pH, salinity and dissolved oxygen. The result showed that survival rate of L. Vannamei with different dose of WCKV vaccines was increases.
