Abstract

Profile of shell with toxic and non-toxic are not different, whereas these toxin is caused by absorption of lead from contamination water and bioactive compound of Dinoflagellata. The other side, an active compound of Ulva pertusa polyunsaturated fatty acid which has ability to potent for survivability of Dinoflagellata (Noctiluca miliaris). U. pertusa is also known to have capability as a biosorption in the sea. The results showed that the effect of algicidal substances U. pertusa was not influence on survivability of shell however it can decrease the growth of Dinofl agellata (N. miliaris) and to absorb lead. Quantifi cation analysis of fatty acid composition also showed that U. pertusa is dominated by PUFA as much as 59% of fatty acid total and has algicidal substances of HDTA, ALA, and ODTA were 1094.44 mg/100g. Analysis of lead in shell, U. pertusa and water showed that they have a significant correlation, where U. pertusa (400 g) can absorb lead until 78.17%, which the initial concentration of lead in U. pertusa and shell were 1.09 mg/kg and less than 0.14 mg/kg, respectively.

Abstract

Polysaccharides from carrageenan have potential as bioplastics that is resistance to waters (hydrophobic), alsocan be improved by using modified starch. Modified starch is a material that can reduce the hydrophilic properties of bioplastics. The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of modified starch application on carrageenan-based bioplastic’s cup on biodegradability and water resistance and to determine the best bioplastic formulation for biodegradability and water resistance. This study was conducted using experimental methods in the biodegradation test and the resistance or swelling test. The experimental method in this study used a completely randomized design (CRD) at a significance level of 5% (α = 0.05). The results of this study indicate that the addition of high modified starch can increase the water resistance of bioplastics but the addition of high modified starch will result in slower biodegradability.

Abstract

The high demand for domestic salt cannot be achieved by local salt production from traditional salt and PT. Garam fluctuates every year. In addition, the quality of traditional salt is still low. This causes the need for domestic salt consumption to be met by imported salt. Therefore, it is necessary to have an alternative to meet the domestic salt demand, namely the revitalization of salt ponds for the development of mass Artemia cultivation that produces both Artemia production and biomass and produces salt in one location. In its natural habitat, Artemia uses microalgae as its main food source. The quality of microalgae feeds greatly determines the production of Artemia franciscana. The availability of nutrients is a factor that determines the rate of growth, so the amount and quality of feed are the main factors to meet the nutritional content for optimal development. Therefore, the salt production in this study used saltwater cultured Artemia with Dunaliella salina as a natural feed with a water age of 3rd,7th, and 14th days. This study aimed to determine the best age of Artemia water cultured with Dunaliella salina as a natural feed in salt production. The results showed that the different ages in Artemia water cultured with Dunaliella salina had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on salt characteristics. The best result was D7 which is salt from Artemia cultured water with Dunaliella salina as a natural feed with water age 7th day. Their respective values are 0.66a + 0.33 water content, 91.55 + 0.32 NaCl, 0.87 water-insoluble part, 0.39% + 0.01 Ca, and 1.25a + 0.05 Mg.

Abstract

Industrial waste water treatment holds a very vital role in filtering toxic materials and improving the quality of industrial waste water before being released into public waterways, so that the water ecosystem balance can be maintained. This study aims to identify Pb concentration on polluted water and sediment from an offshore oil drilling area near Camplong Beach, Madura, and also make efforts to find out the potential Anadara granosa shells and Monostroma nitidum seaweed biofilters that exist in that place so as to suppress the adverse effects of toxic materials that arise. The method used was experimental research design that aims to systematically obtain information to describe a lead concentration on polluted water and sediment, and also evaluate the presence of A. granosa shells and M. nitidum as a potential biological filter. The results of the analysis of lead in A. granosa shells, M. nitidum biofilter, water, and sediment indicated that there was a significant correlation, where the shells of A. granosa and M. nitidum can absorb lead until 36.59% and 8.79%, respectively, from which the initial concentrations of lead in sediment and water were 5.57±1.58 and 0.004±0.001 mg/kg respectively. The existence of algicidal substances of HDTA, ALA, and ODTA from M. nitidum can suppress the growth of dinoflagellatas of Chattonella marina. The quantification analysis of fatty acid composition showed that M. nitidum is dominated by PUFA as much as 66% of total fatty acid, and has algicidal substances of HDTA, ALA, and ODTA of 61.53 mg/100 g.

Abstract

The use of fishery waste emphasizes a cyclical system in the production process, thereby creating clean production. Shrimp waste can pollute the environment around the factory so it needs to be utilized. One of the processing methods that can be done using shrimp heads is to make flavour. Islamic boarding schools and economic independence in an effort to develop Islamic boarding schools - are two things that cannot be separated. Training on fishery waste processing is one method to support economic independence in the form of entrepreneurship in Islamic boarding schools. Processing fishery product waste is an activity carried out in stages, sequentially, cleanly and hygienically, and meets quality requirements in order to convert fishery product waste into value-added products. The target of this community service activity is to establish a solid fishery waste processing business activity at the Nurul Huda Islamic Boarding School in Surabaya and be able to compete in the market continuously. The method used is an approach method that includes, among others, the Participatory method. The results that have been obtained from this activity are an increase in the knowledge of Islamic boarding school students about fishery waste, namely shrimp heads which are used as a flavouring/flavoring ingredient for safe cooking. The activity was attended by 43 students, with educational levels namely middle school and high school. Based on questionnaire data distributed, before the training was carried out, it was found that 93% of the students did not know that shrimp head waste could be used as a flavour. After the training, it was found that 94% of students were interested in making their own flavor production made from shrimp heads.
