Abstract

Background: The development of the reproductive organs is an important part of a child’s growth and development process, which should be introduced from primary school age onwards through an educational approach appropriate to the child’s stage of development. A lack of understanding among children regarding physical changes, the function of the reproductive organs, and the importance of maintaining the hygiene and health of the reproductive organs may increase the risk of inappropriate behaviour towards their own bodies. Therefore, preventive measures are required through child-friendly and easily understandable reproductive health education. Objective: This community service initiative aims to educate elementary school-aged children about their own bodies in a healthy, accurate, and developmentally appropriate manner, as well as to provide elementary school-aged children—particularly girls—with an appropriate understanding of and exposure to reproductive health education, so that they develop an early awareness of their body parts, the basic functions of their reproductive organs, and the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and safety. Methods: The methods used in this community service activity included interactive learning activities such as lectures, discussions, educational games, question-and-answer sessions, and visual aids in the form of illustrations of the reproductive organs tailored to the characteristics of children. Results: The results of the activity showed changes in the participants’ behavior regarding their understanding of the female reproductive organs, physical changes leading up to puberty, and behaviors related to personal hygiene. The children were able to name the body parts that need to be kept clean, understand the concept of bodily privacy, and showed enthusiasm throughout the learning process. Conclusion: This community service activity can be considered effective as a preventive and promotive measure in fostering reproductive health literacy from an early age, particularly in supporting the healthy growth and development of children who are self-confident and have a healthy body image.

Abstract

Introduction: Circumcision is one of the health interventions that provides medical, hygienic, and psychosocial benefits for children. However, not all families have adequate access to safe and affordable circumcision services. Community service activities conducted by higher education institutions represent a strategic effort to improve public health while implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Objective: This community service aimed to provide safe, free circumcision services for children while enhancing community access to quality healthcare through collaboration between lecturers and students of STIKes Muhammadiyah Ciamis. Method: This activity employed a community service approach involving the stages of planning, participant registration, health screening, circumcision procedures, health education, and post-circumcision follow-up. The program was implemented through collaboration between lecturers, nursing students, healthcare professionals, and local stakeholders. A total of 49 children from several villages and sub-districts in Ciamis Regency participated in the mass circumcision program. Result: The community service program was successfully implemented with all registered participants receiving circumcision services according to standard medical procedures. Participants originated from multiple areas in Ciamis Regency, indicating broad community participation and positive acceptance of the program. In addition to circumcision services, parents received education regarding wound care, infection prevention, nutrition, and post-circumcision activity restrictions. The collaboration between lecturers and students also provided valuable experiential learning in community nursing practice, communication, teamwork, and professional service delivery. Conclusion: he mass circumcision program effectively increased community access to safe circumcision services and demonstrated the important role of higher education institutions in improving community health. Collaboration between lecturers, students, healthcare workers, and local stakeholders represents an effective model for sustainable community service programs.

Abstract

Introduction: Body image refers to a person’s perceptions, thoughts, feelings, and attitudes toward the shape, size, and appearance of their body. A positive body image enhances mental health, self-confidence, and quality of life, while a negative body image increases body dissatisfaction. Adolescents are an age group undergoing rapid biological, psychological, social, and emotional changes. Negative body image among adolescents has become a public health issue worldwide, necessitating promotive and preventive interventions as a solution. Objective: The objective of this community service activity is to enhance adolescents’ knowledge, understanding, and awareness of the importance of a positive body image as a factor that supports physical and mental health. Participants were educated on the concept of body image, as well as the factors that influence their perceptions of their own bodies. Method: The literature review method was used to collect and analyze various scientific sources as a basis for developing materials, lectures, and interactive discussions, supplemented by the distribution of handouts. Pre- and post-tests were used to measure the success of the activity. Result: The event took place smoothly on August 16, 2025, at STIKes Muhammadiyah Ciamis, with 35 participants gathering on the campus grounds. Conclusion: There was an increase in knowledge regarding the importance of a positive body image through education provided during the Community Service program, as evidenced by an increase in the average pretest score from 69 to 80 on the posttest.
