Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between resilience and psychological well-being concerning parenting stress in mothers with children with special needs. Method: The research employs a correlational study with a quantitative approach. The population for this study consists of mothers with children with special needs in Sidoarjo, specifically those whose children attend Special Needs Schools. The sampling technique used is a composite sampling method based on Cochran's formula, with a sample size of 76 participants. The measurement tools used in this study are the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) for resilience, the Psychological Well-Being 18 Scale by Ryff (PWB) for psychological well-being, and the Parental Stress Scale (PSS) for parenting stress. The data analysis technique employed is multiple regression analysis. Results: The results of this study indicate that, collectively, resilience and psychological well-being have a significant impact on parenting stress among mothers with children with special needs. Novelty: This study highlights the dual role of resilience and psychological well-being as combined predictors of parenting stress specifically in mothers with children with special needs, a population that has received limited attention in psychological correlational research.

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to examine the influence of social media dependency and academic achievement on learning motivation among students at Al-Islam High School. Method: The variables in this study include social media dependency and academic achievement as independent variables (X) and learning motivation as the dependent variable (Y). The researcher employed a quantitative research design using multiple regression analysis, with a sample of 289 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. The research instruments included adapted scales using the Likert model for learning motivation, online game addiction, and emotion regulation. The learning motivation scale was adapted from the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.840. The social media dependency scale was adapted from the Internet Addiction Scale (IAS) with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.862, and the academic achievement scale was adapted from the Learning Achievement Scale (LAS) with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.882. Results: The results of the data analysis using multiple linear regression showed that the variables of social media dependency and academic achievement simultaneously have a significant effect on learning motivation, contributing 30.2% to the variance. Partial analysis indicated that social media dependency has a significant impact on learning motivation with a β value of -0.466 (p < .001), contributing 24.7% to the variance, while academic achievement also has a significant impact on learning motivation with a β value of 0.154 (p < .001), contributing 5.4% to the variance, indicating that social media dependency has a larger effect on learning motivation. Novelty: This study highlights the greater negative impact of social media dependency compared to academic achievement on students' learning motivation, providing new insights into the prioritization of intervention efforts in educational settings.

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the functioning of the family and the self-injury among a Young adult in Candi Sayang, Sidoarjo. Method: Using a correlational quantitative approach. The participants are teenagers aged 17 to 25, totaling 47 individuals. Data was obtained using measurement tools in the form of a family functioning scale and a self-injury scale, then analyzed using the Product Moment correlation statistical method. Results: The results of the data analysis showed a correlation coefficient of r = -0.96 with a p value of 0.000 (Sig. < 0.05), indicating a significant negative relationship between family functioning and self-injury in Young adult. It can be concluded that the higher the family functioning, the lower the self-injury among young adult. Conversely, if family functioning is low, self-injury tends to be higher. Novelty: This study highlights the strong inverse correlation between family functioning and self-injury among young adults in a specific regional context (Candi Sayang, Sidoarjo), which has not been widely explored in prior research. The use of a high correlation value (r = -0.96) suggests a particularly strong association that adds depth to the understanding of family dynamics in mental health outcomes during young adulthood.

Abstract

Objective: Accordingly, the study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the Security Council’s response to the Russo-Ukrainian War by examining its peacekeeping efficacy, decision-making processes, and enforcement of resolutions, thereby identifying strengths and weaknesses in these areas. Method: Anchored in a neorealist theoretical framework, the study adopted a qualitative design and employed content analysis to examine relevant United Nations documents and resolutions. Results: It found that the veto power of permanent members, especially when used by an involved party, paralyzed the Council’s decision-making and left its resolutions largely symbolic and unenforceable. The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) norm was effectively sidelined, as the Council failed to invoke it despite evidence of mass atrocities. Consequently, the Security Council proved ineffective in enforcing compliance with its decisions or altering the course of the conflict, demonstrating a significant gap between its mandate to maintain peace and its performance in this war. Novelty: Finally, it recommended curtailing the use of the veto in mass-atrocity situations, urging that permanent members abstain from vetoing in such cases to prevent Council paralysis and enable timely action.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to answer a set of research questions, which can be stated as follows: What proportion of airtime does the program Legal Issues occupy compared to the total airtime of other programs on AlIraqiya Satellite Channel? What are the prominent legal topics that the program seeks to present and emphasize within the episodes aired? What are the main goals and functions the program aims to achieve through its presented topics, ideas, and legal issues? Method: This research is classified as a descriptive study, aiming to determine the scope of topics and functions performed by the Legal Issues television program. The study covers the period from June 1, 2024, to August 30, 2024, during which the recorded episodes of Legal Issues were aired, constituting one complete programming cycle. The researcher selected this period because it coincided with the study timeline, which allowed close monitoring of the Legal Issues program broadcast on AlIraqiya Satellite Channel. Results: Legal topics hold particular significance for the public as they contribute to building the audience’s knowledge base after becoming familiar with the enacted laws and regulations. By presenting legal topics through mass media, public awareness is enhanced, and individuals are provided with the skill of logical legal thinking, considering that such topics are important and complementary to social, political, and literary subjects. Novelty: The scientific problem addressed in this research lies in the fact that television seeks to perform and fulfil several functions, with the legal function being one of its key aspects. Therefore, television professionals strive to leverage its ability to influence, guide, and educate in order to achieve culturally and socially beneficial objectives in general, and legal objectives in particular, aimed at raising legal awareness and informing the public of their rights and obligations within the framework of prevailing legal systems.

Abstract

Objective: Cultural diversity in Iraq faces profound existential challenges that threaten the survival of religious and ethnic minority identities. This research analyses the manifestations of cultural extinction through the decline of mother tongues, the erosion of communal rituals, displacement and spatial uprooting, and the weakening of institutional presence among minority groups. Method: The study is grounded in an integrated theoretical framework that incorporates the concepts of cultural hegemony, symbolic violence, forced assimilation, and symbolic annihilation to understand the dynamics of this phenomenon. Results: The findings reveal that cultural extinction is not merely a gradual process of losing symbols but rather a reflection of structural power relations that reproduce symbolic inequalities through institutions such as education, media, the labour market, and religion. These transformations have direct implications for society at large, most notably the erosion of social capital, the fragility of cultural citizenship, the deepening of mistrust between the state and citizens, and the weakening of Iraq’s soft power in international arenas. Novelty: The study concludes that protecting cultural diversity is not only a humanitarian obligation but also a strategic necessity, as the sustainability of national stability requires genuine recognition of minorities, empowerment in decision-making, and safeguarding of their heritage and collective memory within a unifying national framework.
