Abstract

This study aims to describe, analyze, and evaluate the role of teachers as learning managers in improving students’ academic achievement in Islamic primary education. The background of this research is based on the phenomenon that the implementation of teachers’ roles as learning managers is still not optimal and varies among teachers, thereby affecting the quality of student learning outcomes. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at MI Darul Hikmah Al-Fatimiyah, Besuki, Situbondo, East Java, Indonesia. The research subjects include the principal, teachers, and students, with data collection techniques consisting of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation techniques to ensure data validity. The findings reveal that teachers have performed managerial learning functions, including planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating instruction, although not yet consistently and innovatively. The main supporting factors include teachers’ commitment, students’ motivation, and principal leadership support, while the inhibiting factors include limited learning media, low integration of educational technology, and heterogeneous student abilities. The strategy applied is a student-need-based learning model through planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The study also shows that the role of teachers as learning managers has a positive impact on improving students’ academic achievement. Therefore, strengthening teachers’ managerial competencies is essential for enhancing instructional quality and ensuring sustainable educational improvement in Islamic primary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the optimization of student management in improving the branding image of schools through a multi-case study at SMP Negeri 1 Mlandingan and SMP Negeri 2 Mlandingan. Student management plays a strategic role in supporting educational quality and strengthening public trust in educational institutions. This research employed a qualitative approach using a multi-case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving school principals, vice principals, teachers, students, and parents. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the optimization of student management is implemented through systematic planning, student admission management, student development programs, discipline enforcement, extracurricular activities, academic and non-academic achievement enhancement, and continuous monitoring and evaluation. These efforts contribute significantly to building a positive school image characterized by improved student achievements, increased community trust, stronger stakeholder engagement, and higher enrollment rates. Furthermore, both schools integrate student-centered management practices with institutional vision and mission to create a competitive and distinctive branding image.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the paradigm of educational discipline in the decision-making process of the Modern Islamic Boarding School Student Organization (OPPM) regarding student disciplinary violations at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. The study is motivated by a disciplinary system that emphasizes not only rule enforcement but also character development and educational considerations. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving OPPM administrators, student affairs officers, teachers, and students. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that disciplinary decisions within OPPM are based on the integration of two key considerations: reason and empathy. Reason is reflected in fact verification, adherence to institutional regulations, and compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), while empathy is reflected in clarification processes, understanding the context of violations, and educational considerations aimed at student development. The integration of these two dimensions forms an educational discipline paradigm that views discipline as a means of character education rather than merely a punitive mechanism. This study proposes the concept of the Reason and Empathy Paradigm as a disciplinary decision-making model that integrates rule-based objectivity with educational considerations to foster students’ character development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Integrity Zone (ZI) development toward Corruption-Free Areas (WBK) and Clean and Serving Bureaucratic Areas (WBBM) through a management function perspective based on the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) cycle at the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jember Regency. The development of Integrity Zones often encounters challenges related to bureaucratic formalism, where implementation tends to focus on fulfilling administrative documents rather than achieving substantive transformation. Therefore, a systematic and sustainable management framework is required to ensure the effectiveness of bureaucratic reform. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with institutional leaders, the head of the ZI team, and coordinators of change areas. These data were further supported by direct observation and documentation studies of the ZI Evaluation Worksheet (LKE). Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and thematic conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the success of Integrity Zone development is strongly supported by the consistent application of the PDCA cycle at every stage of management. In the planning phase (Plan), the organization formulates strategies based on actual needs. The implementation phase (Do) involves measurable bureaucratic reform programs. The evaluation phase (Check) ensures the achievement of performance indicators, while the action phase (Act) promotes continuous improvement. These findings indicate that the Integrity Zone is not merely an administrative instrument but has evolved into an organizational culture that emphasizes continuous improvement. Leadership plays a crucial role as a role model in internalizing integrity values, thereby fostering a clean, accountable, and service-oriented bureaucracy in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation  of the Joyful  Learning method in enhancing student participation in the Aqidah Akhlaq (Islamic Creed and Morals) subject, identify the supporting  and inhibiting  factors, and analyze the results of the implementation at MI Miftahul Ulum and MI Sirajul Ulum Opo-Opo Krejengan Probolinggo. The main problem addressed is the low level of student activity and interest in Aqidah Akhlaq learning, often attributed to conventional teaching methods and a lack of engaging media. This research adopts a qualitative approach using a multi-site case study design.  Data collection  involved  participatory  observation,  in-depth  interviews (principals, teachers, and students), and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that: (1) The implementation of the Joyful Learning method  was  carried  out  through  three  main  stages:  planning   (formulating objectives, selecting material,  preparing  lesson plans), execution (creating  a fun atmosphere, utilizing educational  games, songs, and storytelling), and evaluation (reflection and feedback). (2) The primary supporting factors include the teacher’s creativity and mastery of the method, the availability of innovative simple media, and full support from the school principal. Inhibiting factors include insufficient time  allocation  for  detailed  media  preparation,  limited  school  facilities  and infrastructure, and the challenge of managing large, highly energetic classes. (3) The  results  of   the  implementation   show  a  significant   increase  in  student participation,  evidenced  by  heightened  enthusiasm,  intrinsic  motivation,  and students' courage to ask questions, answer, and actively interact during the learning process, which positively impacts their understanding and internalization of Aqidah Akhlaq values.
