Abstract

This study aims to describe, analyze, and evaluate the role of teachers as learning managers in improving students’ academic achievement in Islamic primary education. The background of this research is based on the phenomenon that the implementation of teachers’ roles as learning managers is still not optimal and varies among teachers, thereby affecting the quality of student learning outcomes. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at MI Darul Hikmah Al-Fatimiyah, Besuki, Situbondo, East Java, Indonesia. The research subjects include the principal, teachers, and students, with data collection techniques consisting of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation techniques to ensure data validity. The findings reveal that teachers have performed managerial learning functions, including planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating instruction, although not yet consistently and innovatively. The main supporting factors include teachers’ commitment, students’ motivation, and principal leadership support, while the inhibiting factors include limited learning media, low integration of educational technology, and heterogeneous student abilities. The strategy applied is a student-need-based learning model through planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The study also shows that the role of teachers as learning managers has a positive impact on improving students’ academic achievement. Therefore, strengthening teachers’ managerial competencies is essential for enhancing instructional quality and ensuring sustainable educational improvement in Islamic primary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the paradigm of educational discipline in the decision-making process of the Modern Islamic Boarding School Student Organization (OPPM) regarding student disciplinary violations at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. The study is motivated by a disciplinary system that emphasizes not only rule enforcement but also character development and educational considerations. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving OPPM administrators, student affairs officers, teachers, and students. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that disciplinary decisions within OPPM are based on the integration of two key considerations: reason and empathy. Reason is reflected in fact verification, adherence to institutional regulations, and compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), while empathy is reflected in clarification processes, understanding the context of violations, and educational considerations aimed at student development. The integration of these two dimensions forms an educational discipline paradigm that views discipline as a means of character education rather than merely a punitive mechanism. This study proposes the concept of the Reason and Empathy Paradigm as a disciplinary decision-making model that integrates rule-based objectivity with educational considerations to foster students’ character development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Integrity Zone (ZI) development toward Corruption-Free Areas (WBK) and Clean and Serving Bureaucratic Areas (WBBM) through a management function perspective based on the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) cycle at the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jember Regency. The development of Integrity Zones often encounters challenges related to bureaucratic formalism, where implementation tends to focus on fulfilling administrative documents rather than achieving substantive transformation. Therefore, a systematic and sustainable management framework is required to ensure the effectiveness of bureaucratic reform. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with institutional leaders, the head of the ZI team, and coordinators of change areas. These data were further supported by direct observation and documentation studies of the ZI Evaluation Worksheet (LKE). Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and thematic conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the success of Integrity Zone development is strongly supported by the consistent application of the PDCA cycle at every stage of management. In the planning phase (Plan), the organization formulates strategies based on actual needs. The implementation phase (Do) involves measurable bureaucratic reform programs. The evaluation phase (Check) ensures the achievement of performance indicators, while the action phase (Act) promotes continuous improvement. These findings indicate that the Integrity Zone is not merely an administrative instrument but has evolved into an organizational culture that emphasizes continuous improvement. Leadership plays a crucial role as a role model in internalizing integrity values, thereby fostering a clean, accountable, and service-oriented bureaucracy in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation  of the Joyful  Learning method in enhancing student participation in the Aqidah Akhlaq (Islamic Creed and Morals) subject, identify the supporting  and inhibiting  factors, and analyze the results of the implementation at MI Miftahul Ulum and MI Sirajul Ulum Opo-Opo Krejengan Probolinggo. The main problem addressed is the low level of student activity and interest in Aqidah Akhlaq learning, often attributed to conventional teaching methods and a lack of engaging media. This research adopts a qualitative approach using a multi-site case study design.  Data collection  involved  participatory  observation,  in-depth  interviews (principals, teachers, and students), and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that: (1) The implementation of the Joyful Learning method  was  carried  out  through  three  main  stages:  planning   (formulating objectives, selecting material,  preparing  lesson plans), execution (creating  a fun atmosphere, utilizing educational  games, songs, and storytelling), and evaluation (reflection and feedback). (2) The primary supporting factors include the teacher’s creativity and mastery of the method, the availability of innovative simple media, and full support from the school principal. Inhibiting factors include insufficient time  allocation  for  detailed  media  preparation,  limited  school  facilities  and infrastructure, and the challenge of managing large, highly energetic classes. (3) The  results  of   the  implementation   show  a  significant   increase  in  student participation,  evidenced  by  heightened  enthusiasm,  intrinsic  motivation,  and students' courage to ask questions, answer, and actively interact during the learning process, which positively impacts their understanding and internalization of Aqidah Akhlaq values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Turba (Turun Bareng) strategy in recruiting prospective students in the era of social media exclusivity at MA Raudlatul Jinan. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving the principal, public relations officers, admission committee members, teachers, parents, prospective students, and community leaders. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal three major aspects of the Turba strategy's effectiveness. First, Turba successfully builds trust among prospective students and parents through direct interpersonal communication. Second, Turba serves as an effective personal communication approach that reaches communities beyond the limitations of social media, particularly those with varying levels of digital access and literacy. Third, Turba significantly contributes to increasing new student enrollment by transforming public trust into actual enrollment decisions. The study concludes that despite the widespread use of digital marketing in educational institutions, interpersonal communication remains a fundamental component of effective student recruitment. Integrating face-to-face engagement with digital promotion enables educational institutions to establish stronger public trust, broaden community outreach, and enhance enrollment outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the digital competency crisis among Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, identify the factors underlying their resistance to digital transformation, and analyze its implications for learning quality. The rapid advancement of digital transformation has fundamentally reshaped educational practices; however, many teachers remain insufficiently prepared to adapt to these changes. PAI teachers face more complex challenges as they are required not only to master digital technologies but also to integrate them with Islamic values within the learning process. This study employed a qualitative approach using a library research design by reviewing reputable scholarly articles, international institutional reports, and relevant academic documents. Data were analyzed through content analysis, involving processes of data reduction, thematic categorization, conceptual synthesis, and critical interpretation. The findings reveal that the digital competency crisis among PAI teachers is not merely a matter of technical limitations but is also shaped by pedagogical, psychological, cultural, and institutional factors that contribute to resistance toward digital transformation. This resistance, in turn, reduces instructional innovation, limits meaningful technology integration, and weakens the relevance of Islamic Religious Education to the learning characteristics of the digital generation. Furthermore, the study highlights the urgency of developing a comprehensive and integrative framework to address this issue. Therefore, this study proposes a digital competency transformation model encompassing technical, pedagogical, epistemological, and ethical-spiritual dimensions as a strategic framework for enhancing the quality and relevance of Islamic Religious Education in the era of technological disruption.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the implementation of a gamification approach using the Wordwall platform in Fiqh instruction and its role in addressing the phenomenon of student learning burnout at the madrasah level. Fiqh instruction, which is often characterized by a normative-textual orientation, tends to rely on conventional lecture-based methods that may trigger psychological fatigue, reduced engagement, and decreased intrinsic motivation among students. This study adopts an interpretive paradigm with a descriptive qualitative case study design to capture the organic dynamics of classroom interaction and the transformation of learning experiences through gamification. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the Fiqh teacher, the madrasah principal, and eighth-grade students, as well as document analysis to triangulate findings. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the integration of game elements such as points, levels, challenges, instant feedback, and visual rewards through the Wordwall platform significantly contributes to reducing students’ learning burnout. This approach enhances intrinsic motivation, fosters active participation, and alleviates academic stress. Furthermore, gamification transforms the classroom environment from a passive, teacher-centered, and text-dominated setting into a more dynamic, interactive, and student-centered learning space. The study underscores the potential of digital gamification as an innovative pedagogical strategy in Islamic education to create meaningful, engaging, and psychologically supportive learning experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Game-Based Learning through an educational Monopoly media in Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) learning and to identify its impact on students' learning motivation, material retention, and critical thinking skills. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at Darullughah Wal Karomah Junior High School. The research informants consisted of purposively selected Fiqh teachers and students. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Then, they were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which included data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was achieved through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results indicate that implementing Game-Based Learning via educational Monopoly media can increase students' motivation to learn through active engagement in the learning process, strengthen retention of Fiqh material through meaningful, repeated learning experiences, and develop critical thinking skills through problem-solving and collaborative discussions. These findings demonstrate that educational monopoly not only functions as an engaging learning medium but also as a pedagogical strategy that supports active, collaborative, and learner-centered Fiqh learning. This research contributes to the development of innovative game-based Fiqh learning in Islamic education.

Abstract

The growing polarization caused by identity conflicts, digital misinformation, and social fragmentation has challenged the role of Islamic education in promoting peaceful coexistence. This study aims to reconstruct the paradigm of Islamic multicultural education by proposing a new conceptual orientation toward peaceful living. Employing a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on the PRISMA 2020 framework, this study synthesized recent scholarly publications (2021–2025) on Islamic multicultural education, multiculturalism, peace education, and social cohesion. The findings reveal that contemporary Islamic multicultural education should move beyond tolerance-based approaches toward a transformative paradigm that integrates Islamic values with peace education. This article proposes the Peaceful Living-Oriented Islamic Multicultural Education Framework (PLIME Framework), which positions justice, tolerance, moderation, consultation, balance, brotherhood, and compassion as foundational values implemented through curriculum, dialogical pedagogy, inclusive leadership, institutional culture, and community engagement. The framework contributes theoretically by integrating Islamic education, multicultural education, and peace education into a comprehensive model for fostering ethical consciousness, dialogue, collaboration, social cohesion, and a sustainable culture of peace in increasingly polarized societies.
