Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of banana peels as energy source in thediet on the performance of king duck, those were feed intake, body weight gain, final bodyweight, feed conversio, and Income Over Feed and Duck Cost (IOFDC). Research method inthis study was completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications. Each replication consisted of three ducks, thus ducks used in this study was 60 head. Treatmentsin this experiment were KP0 (Without starchy banana skin (control) in the ration, KP1 = feedcontaining 12% flour banana peel in the ration, KP2 = feed containing 24% flour banana peelin the ration, and KP3 = feed containing 36% flour banana peel in the ration. The use ofbanana peels flour in treatment KP1 was effective as indicated by feed consumption, bodyweight gain, liveweight, and feed conversion. However, the highest weight gain and liveweightwere obtained from control treatment, that were 758.67 and 1106.67 g / head, respectively.

Abstract

Rice straws are classified as a low-nutritional quality of feed ingredients. Fermentationis an effort to improve the nutritional quality of rice straw as a feed for ruminant. Thepurpose of this study was to determine the optimal dose of ruminal fluid on physicalquality, crude protein content and crude fiber content of fermented rice straw. Theresearch design in this study was the Completely Randomized Design (RAL), with fivetreatments and four replications. The treatment was J1 (5% ruminal fluid), J2 (10%ruminal fluid), J3 (15% ruminal fluid), J4 (20% ruminal fluid) and J5 (25% ruminal fluid). The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Production, Faculty ofAgriculture, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, Banjarbaru, from February to April 2012.Results showed the addition of ruminal fluid on the rice straw very significantly affected(P>0.01) crude protein of fermented rice straw. However, addition ruminal fluid did notsignificantly affect (P<0.05) on temperature, moisture content, pH, and crude fibercontent of rice straw. Treatment J3 was the optimum rumen fluid dose as indicated byphysical quality of fermented rice straw, the highest content of crude protein (6.58%),and the lowest content of crude fiber (30,64%).

Abstract

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the effect of fermentation using different inoculans onthe quality of nutrient and digestibility of cassava peels, namely: crude protein (CP), metabolismenergy (ME), dry matter digestibility (DMD), and retention of nitrogen of male Alabio duck on 8weeks of age. This research used completely randomized design with four treatments and fivereplications. Treatment of this research was difference of inoculans as fermentation starter, i.e.P0 (non fermented cassava peels as a control), P1 (fermentation with EM4 for animal feed), P2(fermentation with tapai yeast), and P3 (fermentation with Starbio). Results of this researchshowed that fermentation was significantly affect on CP and ME (P<0.05), and could increaseDMD and nitrogen retention of cassava peels for male Alabio duck on 8 weeks of age. Inconclusion, fermentation using tapai yeast (P2) is the best inoculant in increasing nutrient qualityof fermented-cassava peels those were 9.36% of CP and 2,790.40 kkal/kg of ME. The bestinoculant for increasing DMD of cassava peels was Starbio (68.27%), whereas tapai yeast wasthe best inoculant for increasing nitrogen digestibility (80.53%)

Abstract

The use of papaya leaf in order to improve the performance of poultry in general it is possible,it is because the enzyme papain which works to increase appetite in the presence of polyphenolsthat give a distinctive taste, in addition to the enzyme papain also helps the absorption ofnutrients, amino acids settings, optimize work colon and remove toxins the body, so the immunesystem can be improved and the performance can be improved chicken anyway. Application ofpapaya leaf powder in broiler rations as a producer of meat has not been known. Broilerchickens which have experienced a lot of genetic modification, so as to take advantage of feedto produce meat in a relatively short time. In this study, researchers wanted to see how far theeffect of papaya leaf meal in broiler ration Cobb strain on feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion and weight gain end. This research method using a completely randomizeddesign (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications which consists of 4 hens each replication, thus cobb broiler strains used as many as 80 tails. This research is the treatment rate ofaddition of papaya leaf meal in the ration consisting of: without the addition of papaya leaf powder (control, P0), the addition of 1.5% papaya leaf powder (P1), 3% (P2), 4,5% (P3), 6%(P4). Results of this study indicate that the addition of papaya leaf meal rations did notsignificantly affect feed intake, weight gain, feed conversion and weight gain end. But the bestindividual treatment groups to improve the performance of broiler chickens is at P1 treatmentby 1.5% due to increased feed intake, weight gain and final body weight, and can lower feedconversion, although not statistically significant.
