Abstract

The development of studies on interpretation must have experienced many developments, including in Indonesia. This can be seen from various works of interpretation born in the archipelago with many kinds of patterns and methods used by the mufassir. One of the works of Tafsir in Indonesia is the result of the thoughts of Hizb at-Tahrir, an Indonesian activist, namely Rokhmat S. Labib, who authored Tafsir al-Wa'ie. The tafsir is quite thick with the views of his organization that carries the mission of the Khilāfah al-islāmiyyah; the themes raised are very ideological. In interpreting the verses of the Qur'an, they tend to be textual. The thought of Rokhmat S. Labib contained in his tafsir work criticizes the understanding of Muslims, which is mainly contaminated with Western cultures, such as pluralism of religion, religious freedom, the idea of human rights that is so broad, and so on. This interpretation can be classified as an affirmative-era interpretive work with ideological reason when viewed from its epistemological structure.

Abstract

The study of the living Al-Qur’an tradition of Tale Jei in Koto Petai village uses qualitative-descriptive research methods by describing the facts of the reality of the data that is there for the data collection method, namely by interview and documentation methods to analyze the data obtained from various sources and then describe the results of the analysis. Tale Jei in Kerinci is a legacy of the cultural traditions of ninik mamak or previous scholars, especially in the village of Koto Petai, routinely holding this traditional event before releasing the pilgrims, which in the process contains all about the events of Hajj starting from the pillars of Hajj, Hajj obligations, Hajj requirements, Hajj prohibitions made and sung in the form of songs (Tale). With the help of the living Al-Qur’an, the author will analyze Karl Mannheim's Sociology of Knowledge theory, which focuses on three main points: objective, expressive, and documentary. From the results of the analysis, the author found the verses contained in this tradition by using the Living Al-Qur’an Study of the Tale Jei tradition in Koto Petai village, including 1) Surah al-Mujādalah (58: 11), 2) Surah Āli Imrān (3:97), 3) Surah al-Nahl (16:97), 4) Surah Fāṭir (35:29), and then reveal the spirit of the implementation of the tradition.

Abstract

Shabir Ally is a Canadian Islamic preacher and apologist. He was interviewed on a YouTube channel named ‘Let The Quran Speak’ about the prophet’s father in hell. However, his explanation is only a brief explanation. Meanwhile, understanding the Ḥadīth of the Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam. Must also use the methodology of Ḥadīth knowledge and the opinions of experts about the true meaning contained in the Ḥadīth. This article aims to provide a more complete explanation of what has been explained by Dr. Shabir Ally in his interview session. This research is a type of literature review research. The result of this article can be summarized as follows: Shabir Ally is in the middle position, neither saying the Prophet's father was in hell nor saying the Prophet's father was saved from the torment of hell. Moreover, the words of the prophet who said, 'My father is also in hell,' are just additions to the story by the people who told that event. However, the author(s) have not found the primary basis for Shabir Ally to say that so far.

Abstract

Perceptions that associate Islam with acts of violence have been the subject of protracted debate. This article delves deeper into this issue while emphasizing the significance of analyzing the historical context and interpretation of religious texts. The research adopts the methods of talāzum and al-takhrīj to interpret the traditions to understand their meaning and integrity. By detailing the understanding of the traditions of jihad in Islam, it can be asserted that the act of killing can only be justified in the context of war and self-defense. This understanding is critical to clarifying false claims regarding the use of violence in Islam. A concrete example of the justified understanding can be seen in the decisive action taken by Abu Bakr in the face of rebellion. However, in the contemporary era, acts of radicalism that involve killing clearly contradict the concept of jihad presented by the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah. It also violates the law, humanitarian principles, and ethics. This article discusses why educative approaches and intercultural dialog are considered more effective solutions for countering extremism and achieving peace in a diverse global society.

Abstract

This paper discusses the asbāb al-wurūd of the hadith about charity not being limited to wealth alone. This hadith needs to be known and studied because some human beings are still stereotyped that charity can only be done with property. Understanding that ignores the asbāb al-wurūd. Usually, many are trapped in textual meanings that encourage misunderstanding. This paper analyzes the hadith about almsgiving using a qualitative method with the takhrij, sharah, and asbāb al-wurūd hadith approach. This research also uses the Library Research method to explore more in-depth information. This research found several essential points, including that charity for materially capable people can be replaced by reciting ṭayyibah sentences (al-ḥamd lillāh, Allāh Akbar, Subhān Allah, and the sentence Lā ilāha Illa Allāh) or by pointing to the good and forbidding the bad. This aligns with the Hadith narrated by Imam Muslim with Index No. 1006. Besides that, it turns out that sadaqah has many benefits, one of which can reduce liver disease that clots inside.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The debate on the leadership roles of men and women (qiwāmah) in Islam is often associated with different interpretations of religious texts. This article aims to uncover and compare the concept of "qiwāmah" through the interpretation of Surah al-Nisa': 34 from the perspective of two female feminist figures, Amina Wadud and Zainab al-Ghazalī, who have different backgrounds. The qualitative comparative method is used in this research, using library research techniques for data collection. This study analyzes data related to their interpretations and views of the Quranic text through their various works, identifying similarities and differences in the interpretation of the Quran. The findings of this study show that there are different interpretations of the meaning of "qiwāmah". Wadud argues that "qiwāmah" signifies relative leadership based on "capability", where anyone capable, regardless of gender, is entitled to lead others. In contrast, Zainab views leadership based on "responsibility", where men are providers for women, reflecting an equal role between the two. In conclusion, both scholars support gender justice and equality, rejecting the notion that the concept of leadership in the Quran is reserved for men due to physical or rational creation factors, and thus opposing domination where the strong can oppress the weak.

Abstract

This study investigates the socio-cultural roots of orientalist perspectives and their impact on the study of Islam and the Eastern world. Employing a qualitative approach, the research draws from the works of key orientalists such as Joseph Schacht, Arent Jan Wensinck, and Ignaz Goldziher, alongside critical analyses from scholars like Edward Said and Muṣṭafa al-Sibaʻī. The research examines how excessive ethnocentrism and cultural ʻaṣabiyyah (group solidarity) have historically influenced Orientalist views and actions, including the propagation of tendentious and discriminatory claims about the Eastern world and Islam. The study utilizes content analysis and critical discourse analysis to uncover the underlying ideologies and power relations within orientalist discourse. The findings reveal that the orientalist tradition of casting doubts on Islamic sources, such as the Sunnah, is rooted in a deeply ingrained cultural ʻaṣabiyyah and a desire to assert Western cultural and intellectual dominance. By understanding these socio-cultural factors, this study aims to provide a framework for anticipating and countering the challenges posed by orientalist ethnocentrism and cultural dominance.

Abstract

This research examines the concept of the creation of women in the Quran by comparing two interpretations from Buya Hamka and Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir, who employ different interpretative methods, namely the taḥlīlī method and the mubādalah method. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature study, which is then analyzed comparatively to identify the similarities and differences in the views of these two figures. The difference in interpretation lies in Buya Hamka's focus on gender or sex differences, whereas Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir interprets verses related to the creation of women by focusing on the general meaning of these verses. Both agree that women are created from the same elements as men. In his work, Tafsir al-Azhar, Buya Hamka offers a different perspective on the authentic hadith used by mufassir, interpreting it as a metaphor or majazī meaning. Meanwhile, Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir's interpretation, using the mubādalah or 'mutuality' method, explains that there is no explicit indication in the verses that women's creation comes from men. He also argues that the authentic hadith regarding the 'rib' is merely a metaphor and adds that characteristics or traits like the 'rib' are inherent in every human being without distinction or specificity to a particular gender.
